Police seize suitcase from Indrani, Peter Mukerjea’s residential premises

Peter-MukerjeaIn a recovery which could prove to be a fresh lead in the Sheena Bora murder case, Mumbai Police on Sunday recovered a suitcase from the residential premises of Indrani and Peter Mukerjea, situated in Worli.

The recovery is considered to be significant as in a similar suitcase Sheena was dumped inside after being killed and was then put on fire.

The ‘sized suitcase’ will help Mumbai Police to nail Indrani’s blatant lie that she has no role in her daughter Sheena’s murder.

Notably, reports had earlier claimed that Indrani, the prime accused, has denied her alleged role in the murder case.

The development comes a day after the car in which Sheena was allegedly killed was traced, even as questions cropped up about a cover-up by police in not registering a case of murder or accidental death three years back when a partially-burnt body, believed to be hers, was found.

The sensational Sheena Bora murder case probe took a fresh turn on Friday night when the police claimed that Sanjeev Khanna, the second husband of Indrani Mukerjea, confessed to his complicity in the crime during a joint interrogation of three accused.

On Friday, the police also briefly questioned Indrani’s husband and former Star India CEO Peter Mukerjea. Police had earlier questioned Rahul Mukerjea, Peter’s son from another marriage, who allegedly had a relationship with Sheena which Indrani disapproved of.

The mystery of Sheena’s passport recovered from the Dehradun home of her ex-boyfriend Rahul Mukerjea has been compounded with a new twist in the tale.

Even as several theories related to the murder of Sheena continue to surface, Mumbai police today took Indrani Mukerjea’s ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and driver Shyam Rai to Raigad where the alleged crime took place.

Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria had earlier claimed: “The victim (Sheena) was strangulated by her step-father and mother and her body was set ablaze using petrol in a forest in Pen taluka.”

Indrani was arrested by Khar Police on August 25, 2015, in connection with the murder case. She was later produced before the Bandra court, which remanded her in police custody till August 31.

Her driver was also arrested on August 25 and during interrogation, he claimed that Indrani had killed her daughter Sheena and that he had helped her in disposing of the body by dumping it in the forests of Raigad District.

Sheena’s mother, Indrani Mukherjee is believed to have killed her, allegedly by strangulating, with help from driver SP Rai and ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna on April 24, 2012.

Dawood Ibrahim’s latest business interest is ‘blood diamonds’

DawdUnderworld don and 1993 Mumbai blasts mastermind Dawood Ibrahim, who is known to have interests in real estate, money laundering and illegal financial services, is now in the business of ‘blood diamonds’.

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval had asked intelligence agencies to ‘pinpoint’ Dawood’s businesses in a bid to freeze the don’s assets.

In a dossier created by the investigators, the officials have stated that the current focus of Dawood’s businesses is to promote and expand the business of conflict diamonds in Africa and Dubai.

Blood diamonds (also called conflict diamonds) is a term used for diamonds mined in a war zone and sold to finance an insurgency.

Blood diamonds have largely been blacklisted in the diamond markets across the world.

The dossier details Dawood’s numerous links to countries such as Zimbabwe and Kenya and the way in which the D-company acquires diamonds abroad and smuggles them into Dubai.

The investigators have found out that Dawood’s Dubai-based company, called Al Noor Diamonds, is a front for this illegal trade in blood diamonds.

“On each trip, diamonds worth around USD 5 to 10 lakh are smuggled into Dubai and the African courier is paid USD 10,000 as his courier fee,” reads the dossier.

The investigators are now investigating the Indian link of the syndicate. Notably, India is a major processor of diamonds; almost 10 of every 11 diamonds that are sold across the globe are cut and polished in the country.

Dawood is on top of the most wanted list in India.

Vinod Kambli denies allegations of locking maid in room for three days

KambliFormer Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli and his wife Andrea late on Sunday denied the claim made by their servant of illegal confinement against the couple.

“All this is wrong. She should prove her allegations,” Kambli told while talking about the issue.

“Will look into matter, will be taking action against her,” stated Andrea.

Early in the morning, news broke that the former Indian cricketer was accused of allegedly confined maid Soni in a room for three days after she demanded her rightful wages.

The maid had also accused Kambli and his wife of harassing and abusing her.

“I worked very hard, worked for 2 yrs with them. They treated me very badly. I begged them to let me go home but they confiscated my phone and documents,” she said.

After she was let out by the duo, Soni headed to the police station to register the complaint.

The case has been registered under IPC 342, 504, 506 and 34.PC 342, 504, 506 and 34.

Police to question Indrani’s ex-husband Siddharth Das’ brother

The Mumbai Police has reached Silchar in Assam to question Shantanu Das, brother of Indrani Mukerjea’s ex-husband and Sheena Bora’s father Siddharth Das.

Shantanu Das has expressed shock over Sheena’s death and confirmed she was his brother Siddharth’s daughter.

Siddharth has been missing since last ten years.

The other two murder accused Sanjeev Khanna and Indrani’s driver Shyamvar Rai have been taken to the Raigad spot where the body remains, allegedly of Sheena, have been found. The TV channel claims that the police have recovered syringes at the alleged crime scene.

In another twist in the case, Indrani Mukerjea’s son Mikhail Bora is believed to have been the next target after his sister was brutally murdered.

Police recreate crime scene in Sheena Bora Murder case

The sensational Sheena Bora murder case took another turn on Sunday when police seized a suitcase that was purportedly meant for packing the body of her brother, whom Indrani Mukherjea had allegedly planned to kill, even as key accused Sanjeev Khanna and the driver were taken to spot to re-create the crime scene.

Officials were tightlipped about the progress in the probe amidst reports that Indrani and her former husband Sanjeev Khanna had been making contradictory claims about who killed her daughter Sheena three years ago.

The new twist in the probe came when Sheena’s brother Mikhail claimed that their mother Indrani had planned to kill him too on April 23, 2012, when she offered him a drink laced with sedatives.

The same day Sheena was allegedly killed by Indrani and Khanna in a car with the help of the driver Shyam Rai. The three had carried the body and disposed it in Pen tehsil in Raigad district the next day.

The seizure of the suitcase from residential premises of Indrani and Peter Mukerjea in Mumbai’s Worli area apparently lends credence to Mikhail’s claim about his mother’s plan to kill him and pack his body parts but there was no police confirmation of this theory.

On Sunday, police brought Sanjeev Khanna to Khar police station and later took him to forest in Pen tehsil, along with Rai.

Indrani, Khanna and Rai will be produced before a local court on Monday where the police is likely to seek extension of their custody.

During sustained interrogation on Saturday, Indrani and Sanjeev had blamed each other for the crime. Indrani accused Khanna of committing the murder and dragging her into the crime. However, he said he only assisted Indrani as she had promised to help him financially.

Mikhail was also questioned at a hotel in Bandra on Saturday.

Protesting students await I&B Ministry’s feedback

Striking FTII students were awaiting a feedback from the Information and Broadcasting Ministry after the August 21 visit of its three-member delegation which held talks with various stakeholders to end the now 80-day stir, even as demonstrations remained subdued on the campus.

The protesting students have been demanding removal of BJP member and TV actor Gajendra Chauhan from the post of chairman of the Governing Council of Film & Television Institute of India.

Kindling the hopes of a resolution of the long-drawn agitation by the students that raised the issue of an alleged saffronisation of various national academic institutions and their autonomy, the delegation led by S M Khan had held discussions with FTII students, faculty and staff. The discussions was later described as “satisfactory” by all stakeholders.

However, the committee which was expected to submit its report to the Ministry last week, was yet to do so, according to the faculty and representatives of the FTII Students’ Association (FSA).

“We now hear that the Khan Committee which gave us a patient hearing with a positive outlook is likely to table its report in next couple of days — Monday or Tuesday,” an FSA representative Ameya Gore said.

The acting dean of FTII Sandip Chatterjee said, “We expect the committee to submit its report early next week.”

Apart from a stand on the students’ demands, which include removal of Chauhan and four members of the FTII body, who allegedly lack “credentials and status”, the I&B committee is also expected to make known its stand on the controversial police complaint filed by FTII director Prashant Pathrabe that led to the arrests of five students involved in his gherao recently.
