Amit Shah launches BJP’s Bihar poll campaign, attacks Lalu, Nitish

Aiming to end the 25-year rule of Lalu-Nitish combine in Bihar, BJP president Amit Shah on Thursday addressed a rally in Patna launching a frontal attack on the duo.

Shah, in his rally, touched upon issues of ‘jungle raaj’, poverty and development in the state of Bihar.

The BJP leader asked the crowd attending the rally if they wish the jungle raaj to return to Bihar again by bringing Nitish and Lalu to power? Shah asked, “Tell me, if Nitish and Lalu return to power, will the jungle raaj once again come to the state?”

Asking for people’s vote, he said if people of the state wants to eradicate poverty they should bring the BJP to power in the upcoming crucial assembly elections later this year.

“Poverty doesn’t have any caste or creed, if you want to eradicate poverty you must form BJP government in Bihar,” Shah said in his address.

Making another pitch for the votes in Bihar by cashing in on the prime minister’s popularity, Shah said that Narendra Modi face is imprinted in people’s hearts.

Toeing BJP’s line of development, he said, “Solution to all problems of Bihar lies with development, if you want development you must form NDA’s government under Modiji’s leadership.”

BJP’s victory in the recently Legislative Council has also come as a boost for the party.

The party has suggested that it would not announce any chief ministerial candidate and would again rely on the appeal of Modi who is likely to hold anywhere between 15 and 20 rallies in the state, starting from July 25.

The party fears that announcement of any chief ministerial choice will antagonise other state leaders.

Women arrested in Delhi for forcing auto driver to have sex with her

A 32-year-old woman in New Delhi has been arrested after an autorickshaw driver complained that she forcibly tried to have sex with him, police said on Thursday.

Another woman, said to be from Tanzania and who reportedly tried to film the act, was on the run, Inspector Vishuddhanand Jha at the Safdarjung Enclave police station told.

Driver Umesh Prasad, 41, alleged that one of the women, Renu Lalwani, hired his autorickshaw on Wednesday afternoon in Saket in South Delhi and wanted to go to Arjun Nagar, about seven kilometres away.

At Arjun Nagar, she invited the driver to her flat on the pretext of paying him.

After offering him water to drink, Lalwani suddenly locked the doors from inside and sought sexual favours from the driver which he denied, Jha said.

The woman “then offered him wine which he again refused to take. Frustrated, she forced herself on him, tore his clothes and kissed him while her roommate filmed the whole incident”, the officer said.

After about an hour, “when the two women went to the other room for a discussion, the driver jumped out of the first floor balcony and fractured his foot”, Jha said.

Police said they had arrested Lalwani and were looking for the foreigner, identified only as Hitija.

Police found four badges and four driving licenses of auto drivers from Lalwani. Police believe the women may have been trapped other drivers similarly.

The power of fasting

Fasting and praying are not part of a human-engineered method or plan. They are not the means to manipulate a situation or to create a circumstance. Fasting and praying are Bible-based disciplines that are appropriate for all believers of all ages throughout all centuries in all parts of the world. The Holy Book has a great deal to say about both fasting and praying, including commands to fast and pray. It also gives us examples of people who fasted and prayed, using different types of fasts for different reasons, all of which have very positive results. Jesus and Moses fasted and prayed for forty days. Jesus’ disciples fasted and prayed too after the Resurrection. Many of the Old Testament prophets too fasted and prayed. The followers of John the Baptist also fasted and prayed. Many people in the early church too fasted and prayed.

In the thirty-fourth chapter of Exodus, it is recorded that Moses did not eat for forty days and forty nights. He was on the mountain with God and lived right in His mighty presence. When Aaron and all the children of Israel saw Moses, behold, the skin of his face shone (verse 30). Fasting truly brings one into the glory of the Lord. There are some people who drink juices when they fast. If you cannot drink juices on a weak and empty stomach, then however, corn flakes or a cooked cereal with milk and without sugar would be fine.

Always drink plenty of water when you are fasting. God never asked us to do anything that will harm our bodies and people have hurt their bodies by not drinking enough water on a fast. Water flushes the poison from your system; many doctors feel that fasting is beneficial so long as you drink plenty of water.

I sometimes hear people say, “I’m giving up chocolates and smoking” and they regard this as a type of fasting. I think this is a rather frivolous approach. The first and foremost purpose of a biblical or spiritual fast is to get a breakthrough on a particular matter that one lifts up to the Lord in prayer. A spiritual fast involves our hearts and the way in which we relate to and trust God. It relates to discerning and receiving strength to follow through on what God might reveal to us about circumstances in our lives or a direction we are to take.

Abstaining from food is often God’s way of showing that His desire for us is that we regain mastery over all the things associated with our flesh in order to subdue our flesh and elevate our emphasis on spiritual matters. God’s promise is to help us as we overcome the flesh and put all carnal temptations into subjection. One reason that fasting is a part of being a Christian is that we live in an evil world. If we are not careful, we can be lured into indulging in sin. Fasting will put ourselves more under subjection to God. Doubts will be dispelled and faith will take its place. One can fast at any time of the year and not just on Ash Wednesdays, Good Fridays and First Fridays of the month.

Salman has been a rock to Sooraj: Suniel

SunilActor Suniel Shetty says superstar Salman Khan stood like a rock with newcomer Sooraj Pancholi after he got embroiled in actress Jiah Khan’s suicide case. At the trailer launch of Salman Khan’s debut home production film “Hero” last evening, Suniel’s daughter Athiya appeared confident while Sooraj got emotional.

Both the young actors are making their Bollywood debut with the Nikhil Advani-directed film, which is set to hit screens on September 11.

“Sooraj has been through a lot in the last few months ..I feel it too. Salman has been a rock for him. It is natural for Sooraj to get emotional when you come up on your own… I think it was a natural emotion… It needed to come out. People needed to see that side of him,” said Suniel.

Jiah, the 25-year-old British-American actor, was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her Juhu home in 2013. Her relationship with Sooraj, son of actor couple Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab, was under the scanner after Jiah’s mother Rabia alleged that Sooraj was behind her daughter’s death.

Last evening when the trailer of “Hero” was unveiled and the biggest high for Suniel was the attendance at the event as he thinks it shows love and affection.

“It is a beautiful moment. It is overwhelming to see them both (Athiya and Sooraj) on screen. I am very happy that people are seeing Athiya’s acting side as well besides her fashion side. She has done a good job, he said.

Star kids are often compared to their parents. On this Suniel said, “Athiya has no stress because her mother is not an actress. Aahaan (his son) might have a problem. But that is ok. But I always want to be known as Athiya’s father or Aahaan’s father.. I am happy with that.”
