Hosts England gained a slender lead over South Africa in the third test of the ongoing test series on Saturday at Kennington Oval, London.

The third and final Test eventually began on Day 3 after the first day was washed out and the second day was halted, and it was England’s bowlers who imposed their dominance.

In the second over of the game, Ollie Robinson struck first blood by upsetting the stumps of South Africa skipper Dean Elgar. In the following over, Sarel Erwee was undone by James Anderson’s late movement, edging the ball to Ben Foakes’ gloves for a four-ball duck.

Robinson’s next victim was South African batter, Keegan Petersen.

Stuart Broad joined the party immediately, tempting Ryan Rickelton into a drive producing another edge that landed into the safe gloves of Foakes.

Three balls later, Robinson found the outside edge of Kyle Verreynne to grab his third. Robinson and Foakes partnered once more to dismiss Wiaan Mulder with a tempting outside off-ball.

The Proteas had lost half their side with only 36 runs on the board. Khaya Zondo and Marco Jansen added as many runs as the first five wickets combined, increasing South Africa’s total with a 36-run stand.

At 69/6, they got South Africa to lunch without any more hiccups.

However, the South-African duo could not carry on as England broke through, breaking the partnership in the first over the following lunch. Broad surprised Zondo with a short ball that exposed the tail.

The remaining batter offered no fight and the innings came to an end, the visitors scoring a paltry 118 in their first innings.

Robinson finished with a five-wicket haul after dismissing Jansen, while Broad finished with four wickets after dismissing Keshav Maharaj and Anrich Nortje.

Alex Lees’ 13-run outburst off 6 balls got England’s batting started before he was caught plumb in front of the wickets by Marco Jansen.

The South African pacers erred in their lines and lengths and were punished fittingly by Ollie Pope, who found the boundary regularly taking the attack to the bowlers.

Another batter was caught leg before wicket by Jansen, with Zak Crawley departing after a circumspect stay at the crease, once again failing to make a mark. His departure brought former captain Joe Root to the crease.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi allies on Sunday took a dim view of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde sharing a stage with Chief Justice of India U U Lalit amid the Supreme Court hearing petitions of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Sena and the CM camp.

State NCP president Jayant Patil, whose party is a constituent of the MVA along with the Sena and Congress, in a tweet said, “A serious case of challenging the legitimacy of the Eknath Shinde government is being heard by a Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court.” “In such a case, it is improper that Shinde shares stage with the Chief Justice of India. This is not as per protocol.” CJI Lalit was on Saturday felicitated at an event in Mumbai where Union Law Minister Kiren Rijiju was present.

Maharashtra CM Shinde, who was also present on the occasion, had said it was a proud moment for the state as its “son” became the Chief Justice of India. Posting pictures of Saturday’s event, Congress spokesman Sachin Sawant tweeted, “When legitimacy and legality of the Shinde-Fadnavis government is being examined by Hon’ble SC itself and not only the current state government but also the man heading it can be disqualified, the dais looks rather incongruous.” Shiv Sena spokesperson Arvind Sawant claimed nothing was happening these days as per norms, rules and law. “This is the reason we say democracy is in danger,” he added.

Shinde had led a revolt against the Shiv Sena leadership in June this year which resulted in the collapse of the Thackeray-led MVA government. Later, Shinde was sworn in as the CM on June 30 along with BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis as his deputy.

The Supreme Court recently referred to a five-judge bench the petitions filed by the Shiv Sena and CM Eknath Shinde factions raising several constitutional questions related to defection, merger and disqualification.

The Maharashtra government should implement seriously its policy to promote Marathi language, the Bombay High Court has said while directing it to henceforth hold the public prosecutor recruitment exam in the state in Marathi also.

A division bench of Justices S V Gangapurwala and R N Laddha passed the order on September 7 on a petition filed by one Pratap Jadhav, seeking that the exam for the posts of public prosecutors be conducted in Marathi also instead of only English.

The order was made available on Saturday.

Jadhav had said he studied in Marathi since school, and that proceedings before the courts of Judicial Magistrate First Class and Civil Judge Junior Division are normally conducted in Marathi language. Marathi is a local language, he said.

The high court in its order said the Maharashtra government ought to have been serious on the issue. “The government cannot say that for the examination of the magistrates and civil judges can be provided for answering in Marathi language and for the examination of Public Prosecutor the same facility would not be provided. In fact, it is the general stand of the government to promote the local language (Marathi),” the HC said.

“We may not fathom the stand of the government,” it added.

The examination is scheduled on September 11, 2022 and hence it may not be possible for an order to be passed for this year’s exam, the court said. “However, the government shall ensure that the next examination to be held for public prosecutors shall be conducted in English as well as Marathi language,” it said.

The court further said its order would help in implementing the Maharashtra government’s policy of promoting Marathi, the language of the state.

The petition claimed the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) holds the exam for the selection of lower courts in Marathi as well as English language.

Additional Government Pleader Molina Thakur told the court that this year 7,700 candidates are appearing for the examination for the posts of public prosecutors.

She claimed only the petitioner has raised the objection over language and that it may not be possible to find an examiner to assess the answer papers in Marathi language.

It took over 16 hours and eight counting machines for the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials to count the heap of cash that was recovered from the residence of a businessman in Kolkata on Saturday.

ED officials recovered over Rs 17 crore from the Garden Reach residence of businessman Aamir Khan.

The central agency found 10 trunks on the spot. However, the cash was found in 5 trunks at Khan’s residence.

The probing agency started the search on Saturday morning and the counting of cash continued till late at night.

The ED search team was accompanied by Bank officials and central forces. Sources said the stacks of notes were mostly in the denomination of Rs 500.

However, currency notes of Rs 2,000 and Rs 200 were also there. The raids were conducted under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

The case was registered on the basis of the First Information Report (FIR) on February 15 last year at Park Street Police Station in Kolkata against Aamir Khan and others based on a complaint filed by Federal Bank authorities, in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Calcutta.

Aamir Khan launched a mobile gaming application namely E-Nuggets, which was designed for the purpose of defrauding the public, the ED said.

During the initial period, the agency said, the users were rewarded with the commission and the balance in the wallet could be withdrawn hassle-free.

“This provided initial confidence among users and they started investing bigger amounts for a greater percentage of commission and a greater number of purchase orders,” the probe agency said.

It said after collecting a handsome amount from the public, all of a sudden, the withdrawal from the App, was stopped, at one or the other pretext such as system upgradation, an investigation by law enforcement agencies.

“Thereafter, all data including profile information was wiped off from the App servers and only then the users understood the ploy.”

Earlier on Saturday, the central agency had carried out search operations at six locations in Kolkata with respect to an investigation relating to the mobile gaming application.

During the search operation, the ED said, it was noticed that the entities linked to the case were using dummy accounts.

Ajinkya Rahane starts new domestic season with double century for West Zone in Duleep Trophy 2022 11

Indian middle-order batting veteran Ajinkya Rahane started the ongoing domestic cricket season with a bang, smashing an unbeaten double century for West Zone against North East Zone during the ongoing Duleep Trophy 2022. This double ton comes when Rahane is struggling to rega in his spot in the Indian Test set-up after being out of form for a long while.

In the match, Rahane spent plenty of time out in the middle, scoring 207* off 264 balls. He smashed 18 boundaries and six sixes during his innings. The veteran Mumbai batter showed his peak form, which will perhaps make national selectors take note of his performances if he keeps going. Double ton from Mumbai youngsters Yashasvi Jaiswal (228) and Prithvi Shaw (113) and contribution from Rahul Tripathi (25*) pushed West Zone to 590/2 declared in their first innings after being put to bat first by NE Zone.

The last time Rahane played for Team India was in January 2022 on a tour of South Africa. Rahane struggled to score well in that series as he could muster only 136 runs in six innings at an average of 22.67 in three matches. He could score only one halfcentury during the series, with a best of 58. In two Tests played in 2022, he could only score 68 runs in four innings at an average of 17.00. He had the best individual score of 58.

He has not been selected for the national side since that series. In two Tests played in 2022, he could only score 68 runs in four innings at an average of 17.00. He had the best individual score of 58. Rahane did not show his best form in 2021 either.

In 13 Test matches and across 23 innings, Rahane scored 479 runs at a sub-par average of 20.83. He could cross the fifty-run mark only twice, with the best score of 67.

He was brought by Kolkata Knight Riders for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season. He had a mediocre season for KKR, scoring 133 runs in seven matches at an average of 44. His best individual score was 44.

n the final stages of the tournament, he was ruled out due to an injury. It would be interesting that for how long Rahane maintains this run of form and if it wins him back his place in the Indian middle order, of which he used to be a core part.
