Amid the ongoing investigations around the industrialist and former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry’s death in a road accident in Palghar, the car manufacturer said that the team would provide clarifications to the officials wherever required and will cooperate.

The remarks came after the Police asked the car manufacturer company why the airbags in the ill-fated SUV did not open at the time of the accident.

“As a responsible brand respecting customer privacy, our team is cooperating with the authorities where possible, and we will provide any clarifications to them directly as required. We will continue our ongoing efforts to increase road safety awareness as a responsible manufacturer while equipping our vehicles with the latest safety features and technologies,” read a statement from Mercedes-Benz India.

“We are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of Mr. Cyrus Mistry and Mr. Jehangir Pandole in the unfortunate road accident. At the same time we are glad to learn that Ms Anahita Pandole and Mr Darius Pandole are recovering,” it added.

Earlier in the day, Palghar Police asked several questions to the car manufacturer company, “Why do not the airbags open? Was there any mechanical fault in the vehicle? What was the brake fluid of the car? What was the tire pressure?” Police said that these vehicles come out of the plant only after proper testing.

“In such a situation, what is the report of the collision impact of the manufacturer’s investigation? Was the steering locked after the collision?” Police asked the car manufacturer. The car manufacturer team will submit the answers to all these questions in its report.

According to sources, the car manufacturer company has informed the Palghar police that the data recorder chip of the vehicle will be sent to Germany for decoding and after decoding from Germany, detailed information about the SUV will be made available to the police.

It may take several days in this process. In this data recorder, detailed information about the vehicle will be available.

Information will be there like how the brake, air bag and other machinery were working. The speed of the car at the time of the accident will also be known.

The estimates about the speed of the vehicle are made on the basis of different video footage or time calculations.

The average speed of the vehicle will be known but it is impossible to estimate the speed of the vehicle at different places at different times.

Therefore, whatever the speed of the vehicle must have been at the time of the accident, the exact information will be revealed only after getting detailed information from the data recorder, police sources told to agencies.

Sources said Cyrus Mistry and others had left Udvada at 1:25 pm on Sunday and the accident happened around 2:28 pm. So they covered a distance of about 60 to 65 km’s in 1 hour and 2 minutes.

Police are verifying whether they had stopped somewhere during this journey or they were moving at a very high speed in the middle. Well-known industrialist and former Tata Sons chairman Mistry died in a road accident near Mumbai on Sunday evening.

According to Palghar Police, Mistry was travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai when his car hit the divider. There were four people in the car. Two died on the spot, including Mistry, while the other two were shifted to hospital.

Apart from Mistry, another deceased has been identified as Jahangir Dinsha Pandole. The injured Anayata Pandole and Darius Pandole are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The driver of the car in which Cyrus Mistry was travelling lost control due to overspeeding and rammed into the divider, said Palghar Police sources on Sunday.

“Prima facie, it looks like the car driver lost control. Cyrus Mistry’s mortal remains are at a government hospital in Kasa. An Accidental Death Report (ADR) is being filed by the police, as per procedure,” Palghar Police sources told to agencies.

BJP plans for its #MissionMumbai150Plus for BMC elections

BJP plans for its #MissionMumbai150Plus for BMC elections 3

Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Mumbai has put the BJP on combat mode with an eye on ‘Mission Mumbai 150 plus’. Amit Shah clearly indicated that his two-day tour was – fight to finish Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena in Mumbai. Since Amit Shah arrived in Mumbai, he visited the Lalbaugcha Raja, one of the city’s most famous Ganesh mandals. He went on to become deputy CM, Mumbai party chief and many leaders of the ruling party. This time he visited Mumbai with his beloved wife; they both not only seek darshan but gave a powerful message of togetherness.

In spite of Shah’s hectic and brief visit to the city he gave a personal visit to Shinde’s residence to subtly convey a message to rivals that the political partnership between the BJP and the rebel Sena faction is here to stay. During his meeting with the CM, Shah echoed BJPs unconditional support to the Shinde Sena, thus laying the groundwork for the two parties to contest all future elections — to the BMC, Thane Municipal Corporation and 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections — together. Mumbai is Shah’s birthplace and also now it is his ego to take on Shiv Sena who betrayed them once. Political chanakya had multiple motives behind his visit and preliminarily he wants Shiv Sena to get rooted out form Maharashtra politics. He reasserts the BJP’s dominance in the upcoming BMC elections. On the offensive while launching the party poll campaign, he reopened old wounds and cried out “betrayal and backstabbing” by Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray during the 2019 state assembly elections and said that his “greed” was the reason his own party turned against him.

He openly said teach Uddhav a lesson and show him his place in Mumbai politics. Shah feels Uddhav betrayed them after seeking votes in the names of Narendra Modi and Devendra Fadnavis. He should be punished by winning Mumbai. The BJP’s target is to win 150 seats in the civic poll. While exhorting party workers to defeat Thackeray’s faction, he asserted that the Chief Minister, Eknath Shinde-led leaders are the real Shiv Sena. Shah asserted, “I want to say it again that we never promised Uddhav Thackeray the post of chief minister. We practice politics openly, not in closed rooms.”

The Union minister said those who ditch somebody in politics never become successful. “Shiv Sena under Uddhav Thackeray’s leadership has become weak and reached its present state due to its politics of betrayal. The BJP should dominate the politics in Mumbai. Spelling out the BJP’s future political line, he also said the party wants to end the anti-Hindu politics in Maharashtra. Meanwhile, deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis asked party workers to treat the upcoming BMC elections as if they are “the last and work hard for the party’s victory”.

In a twist that few saw coming post the tumultuous political events which led to the demise of the MVA, the BJP’s central leadership gave the coveted chief minister’s post to Shinde. Many read the move as a reward to Shinde for breaking up the Sena and weakening Uddhav Thackeray’s hold on the party. With 40 of Sena’s 55 MLAs on his side, Shinde reduced the strength of the Uddhav faction to just 15 MLAs. He even engineered a split in the parliamentary party by wearing away 12 out of 18 Sena MPs. The Shiv Sena has reacted sharply against Amit Shah’s blistering attack against the party president Uddhav Thackeray and its claim to win 150 seats in the upcoming BMC elections. The Shiv Sena deputy leader and former mayor Kishori Pednekar told media that the Shiv Sena will retain power in BMC.

Meanwhile Danve also took a dig at Shah and BJP saying why they need BMC when the entire country is under their control? After realising that nothing would happen, now BJP is desperately chasing MNS to bring the Raj Thackeray-led party on board for BMC elections. Despite BJP’s machinations, Maharashtra’s new generation will remain with Shiv Sena. He added that Shiv Sena will retain its power in BMC, well this time people are not with Shiv Sena for sure. It is a tough task for Shiv Sena and NCP to gain as many seats as they won last time. Let’s see who gets the mandate.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s visit to Mumbai was to hit up political corridors. Shah said to finish Shiv Sena in BMC, Pednekar rubbished BJP’s claim of winning the Mayoral election and declared that Shiv Sena will emerge victorious to retain power in BMC. Amit Shah’s blistering attack against the party president Uddhav Thackeray and its claim to win 150 seats in the upcoming BMC elections has not gone well with Shiv Sena.

Former mayor Kishori Pednekar said, ‘’Amit Shah is making deliberate attacks on Shiv Sena supremo, Uddhav Thackeray, but that will not change their fate in BMC elections.  People can see who is intimidating whom and who is giving boxes, who is robbing whom. Amit Shah’s present state is like Ghajini? After two and a half years why did he now disclose that the alliance (Shiv Sena-BJP) broke for two seats.’’

Pednekar, who after meeting Uddhav Thackeray, without naming BJP, slammed the alienated ally saying that everyone knows it’s agenda of finishing local and regional parties. ‘’Shiv Sena has already announced the slogan of winning 150 seats in BMC elections. If they (BJP) have made an announcement of Mission 150 seats, let them copy (Shiv Sena),’’ she noted.

The leader of the opposition in the state council, Ambadas Danve criticised Shah and claimed that BJP was giving importance to Ahmedabad by reducing the importance of Mumbai, which is the commercial capital of India. “Amit Shah has done his best to show immense love to Mumbai. We have made an attempt to reduce the importance of Mumbai and the Marathi Manoos. It would have been understandable if many offices in Mumbai were shifted to Delhi, but it shifted them to Ahmedabad.’’

Danve took a dig at Shah and BJP saying why they need BMC when the entire country is under their control? ‘’BJP is insufficient in Mumbai. After realising that nothing would happen by merely holding meetings, BJP engineered a split in the Shiv Sena as 40 MLAs joined hands with it. Now BJP is desperately chasing MNS to bring the Raj Thackeray-led party on board for BMC elections,’’ he said. Despite BJP’s machinations, he said Maharashtra’s new generation will remain with Shiv Sena. He added that Shiv Sena will retain its power in BMC.

Delhi BJP leaders on Tuesday carried out a signature campaign to seek public support for their demand for the removal of Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia from the AAP government over the alleged liquor scam. Party leaders including state president Adesh Gupta and MPs Manoj Tiwari and Ramesh Bidhuri among others participated in the campaign being conducted outside around 20 metro stations and other prominent locations in the national capital.

“A sting video that BJP released yesterday clearly reveals the scam in Kejriwal government’s excise policy. We are seeking public support for our demand to sack Sisodia as the AAP leadership has so far avoided answering questions about the scam,” Gupta said outside Karol Bagh metro station.

The BJP leaders, including party MLAs, will also stage a protest outside the minister’s residence in the evening. Sisodia who also holds the Excise portfolio is one of the accused in the ongoing probe into alleged irregularities in the Excise Policy 2021-22.

On Monday, he alleged that a CBI official who was under pressure to frame him committed suicide.

Ace cricketer Suresh Raina announces retirement from all forms of cricket 10

Former India batter Suresh Raina on Tuesday announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, a move that makes him eligible for competing in overseas T20 leagues.

The 35-year-old had followed M S Dhoni into international retirement on August 15, 2020.

He continued playing the IPL in 2021 but was released by Chennai Super Kings ahead of the 2022 season.

”It has been an absolute honour to represent my country & state UP. I would like to announce my retirement from all formats of cricket,” Raina tweeted while thanking the BCCI, Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association and CSK.

Since an active India or domestic player can’t take part in overseas leagues, Raina needed to take this step for him to explore T20 leagues around the world.

He could also be seen in Cricket South Africa’s new T20 league, to be held next year, with all six teams owned by IPL franchises, including CSK. Raina played his last competitive game in October 2021 when he turned up for CSK against Rajasthan Royals in Abu Dhabi. As an India player, Raina played 18 Tests, 226 ODIs and 78 T20s. He was part of the World Cup winning squad in 2011.

A preliminary report on the accident that killed former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Mistry and his friend Jehangir Pandole on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway at Charoti in Palghar district mentions overspeeding and an error of judgement as reasons for the crash.

Konkan Range inspector general of police Sanjay Mohite on Monday submitted the interim report to the state director general of police Rajneesh Seth. Deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis had ordered a high-level inquiry into the accident.

A senior official stated that the condition of the SUV indicates it could have been travelling at 130-140 kmph. The official said the manufacturer, Mercedes Benz, will be consulted to assess exact speed at the time of the accident.

“The impact was so huge that the radiator of the vehicle was not only completely smashed, it was pushed at least two to three feet inside,” the official said.

A senior police officer said the maximum speed limit set on the highway in the Palghar district stretch is 80 kmph (it is otherwise 100 kmph on national highways). He said even if the car was at 90 kmph, it would be a case of over speeding.

ED conducts raids across multiple states in Delhi excise policy case 16

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting raids in connection with the Delhi excise policy case in Delhi and multiple cities in Uttar Pradesh, Punjab Haryana, Telangana, and Maharashtra, sources told agencies

Earlier too, enforcement agencies had conducted searches on Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia’s official residence besides at several places in connection with the alleged corruption in the implementation of Delhi’s excise policy.

The Aam Aadmi Party had been maintaining that the allegations of corruption labelled against them were politically motivated. What exactly is the controversy around Delhi’s Excise policy? A report on July 8 by Delhi’s Chief Secretary established prima facie violations of GNCTD Act 1991, Transaction of Business Rules (ToBR) 1993, Delhi Excise Act 2009 and Delhi Excise Rules 2010.

The Chief Secretary’s report indicated substantively of financial quid pro quo at the top political level and that the Delhi Excise Policy was implemented with the sole aim of benefitting private liquor barons for financial benefits to individuals at the highest rungs of the government leading up to Manish Sisodia. Sisodia, who is in charge of the excise department, is under the scanner for alleged deliberate and gross procedural lapses which provided undue benefits to the tender process for liquor licensees for the year 2021-22.

Sisodia is believed to have executed decisions in violation of the statutory provisions of the Excise Policy, which could have huge financial implications. Such “undue financial favours” to the liquor licensees after the deadline for awarding tenders caused huge losses to the exchequer, sources earlier claimed. Delhi Lieutenant Governor recommends CBI probe Taking into account the Chief Secretary’s report, Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena had recommended a CBI investigation into the matter. The LG office said that Sisodia also extended financial favours to the liquor licensees much after the tenders had been awarded and thus caused huge losses to the exchequer.

The excise policy was passed in chief minister Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi Cabinet in the middle of the deadly Delta Covid-19 pandemic in 2021.
