India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja is likely to miss the T20 World Cup in Australia as he will undergo knee surgery. The surgery is expected to keep him out of action for an indefinite period of time.
“Ravindra Jadeja could be ruled out of the upcoming major event T20 World Cup too as his knee injury needs surgery and he has to stay away from cricket for a long time,”
In his career, Jadeja has delivered over 7000 overs in nearly 630 matches across firstclass, List A and T20 formats, with 897 wickets under his belt. Earlier on Friday, India’s star spinner Axar Patel was named as the replacement for injured Jadeja for the ongoing Asia Cup 2022. Ravindra Jadeja has sustained a right knee injury and was ruled out of the tournament.
He is currently under the supervision of the BCCI medical team. Jadeja had played a key role in India’s victory over Pakistan in their opening Asia Cup match. The all-rounder played a crucial knock of 35 runs to guide the team to victory with Hardik Pandya anchoring the innings on the other end. India triumphed over Pakistan by five wickets in a tight contest.
Police at New Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport busted a fake job racket involving cheating people on the pretext of providing them with jobs at IGI airport and arrested one person in the case.
The accused who was identified as Hemant Kumar, deceived people by promising jobs at the airport and was arrested after 11 people filed a complaint against him.
A case was registered under sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code at IGI Airport police station by the complainant Praveen and ten others against the accused for cheating on the pretext of providing jobs.
“In the wake of recently reported cases where people were duped by unidentified persons by delivering false promises of jobs at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, a team was constituted with the specific task and to locate the movement of alleged cheat and to nab him. The team worked meticulously, used technical surveillance and also deployed the secret informers and finally succeeded in arresting the accused,” police said in a statement.
“The accused has cheated more than 20 people on the pretext of providing jobs at IGI Airport, 10 blank aerodrome entry permit (AEP) application forms and a register were recovered from his possession, the police informed.
Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Saturday unveiled India’s first prototype of drone transportation of human organs to facilitate quick organ transplant in hospitals.
The use of drones in moving the harvested organs from the airport to the hospital, as against the present mode of transporting them by road from airport, will reduce considerable time.
“At present, drones can be used to move the box containing the organs up to a distance of 20 km,” Dr Prashanth Rajagopalan, director, MGM Healthcare, which has co-created the prototype drone technology, said.
His hospital has entered into a tie-up with a city-based drone company for shifting the organs, Rajagopalan told reporters. This is aimed at revolutionising the last-mile transportation of organs, he said.
“Understanding the importance of speed and seamless transport of organs we will soon need innovation in the logistics of transportation of organs. And one such welcome suggestion is the use of drones,” Gadkari said.
“This is a very innovative approach to solve the problem of transportation and I appreciate MGM Healthcare in being part of the research and development,” he said after unveiling the prototype, virtually from New Delhi.
Gadkari pointed out that the issue of logistics for organ transportation can be resolved through better land and air connectivity and said his ministry had already initiated measures to improve the infrastructure. Road infrastructure projects like the Bharatmala Pariyojana, a new umbrella programme for highways sector, will be a great asset to transport organs across India.
“We are in the process of starting the expressway project from Delhi to Dehradun, which will reduce travel time… I am very much cautious and sensitive about transportation of organs and how I can be helpful to you on this,” the minister said.
The transport time will be shorter and the expressway will be greenfield alignment and operated with a close door system, he said. Development including land acquisition and other activities are under progress, he added.
The Centre under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi understood the importance of creating infrastructure not only for promoting business and trade but also in terms of saving lives and improving healthcare, he claimed.
Felicitating Dr K R Balakrishnan, Chairman, Cardiac Sciences, and Director, Institute of Heart and Lung Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support, MGM Healthcare; and his team for having performed over 500 heart and lung transplants successfully in India and running the largest adult and paediatric heart transplant program in India, Gadkari said achieving this landmark puts India on the global map.
“This achievement not only gives a sense of pride but also a satisfaction that we are creating a benchmark in the healthcare sector,” he said.
Incidentally, the record 500-plus heart and lung transplants is the highest number performed by one team in the entire Asia Pacific region, according to the hospital.
“I was told that some of the doctors, especially Balakrishnan, relocated to India from abroad with a mission and passion of creating a finest transplant programme. This is indeed an exceptional commitment to serve the nation,” the Union minister said lauding the members of the hospital team for their sacrifice.
Congratulating the team for the success, he urged them to expand the horizons and not stop at crossing the 500 mark. “Reach the next milestone of progress through talent and improvement of medical infrastructure in villages and smaller towns and help the masses access world-class medicare,” he urged.
State Health Minister Ma Subramanian commended the prototype and said this would pave the way for more lives to be saved. He assured all support to make it operational soon.
“Chennai and MGM Healthcare is a frontrunner in the organ transplant programme and is at par with the very best in the world today,” he said.
For its part, the government has permitted all state-run medical college hospitals and district headquarters hospitals to harvest organs. “Soon, these hospitals would start transplants,” Subramanian said.
Dr Balakrishnan said 514 heart and lung transplants were successfully completed and this included over 200 transplants over the last two years despite lockdowns and COVID-19.
“This was possible due to the tremendous support and expertise of the team, government bodies and transport teams,” he said.
Infrastructure and support by MGM Healthcare also helped him to treat over 350 ECMO patients — the highest in the country. The team had also performed over 100 paediatric transplants and over 4,600 interventional cases, free of cost in association with Aishwarya Trust – ‘Caring for Little Hearts’ and completed over 220 procedures under the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister’s scheme, he said.
Dr Suresh Rao, Co-Director, Institute of Heart and Lung Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support, MGM Healthcare, who traced the hospital’s journey of transplantation said running India’s largest heart and lung transplant programme has been possible due to the dedicated efforts of Dr Balakrishnan and the team’s expertise in the domain as well as in mechanical circulatory support program.
Dr Ravikumar R, senior consultant and associate clinical lead, cardiology and heart failure programme, MGM Healthcare, said heart failure is an under-recognised problem in India. The quality of life and longevity of end stage heart failure patients not responding to conventional therapy can be improved by advanced procedures like heart transplant and Left Ventricular Assist Device (LVAD), he said.
Dr Prashanth Rajagopalan said with the remarkable achievement of 500-plus transplants, the hospital is further committed to making India a global medical hub by investing in the latest technologies and best clinical talent for better clinical outcomes
The ridership on air-conditioned suburban trains has witnessed a seven-fold rise in the last six months, with the most robust figures coming from Thane, Dombivali and Kalyan stations, a Central Railway official said on Saturday.
Ridership has increased from 5,939 per day in February this year to 41,333 in August, a CR release said, adding that AC locals account for 56 of its 1,819 suburban trips every day.
“Between February and August, the highest number of 10,50,511 passengers travelled on AC locals from Thane, followed by Dombivali with 9,39,431 passengers and Kalyan with 9,01,859 passengers,” the release informed.
Incidentally, CR had to withdraw 10 services of the AC local train on its main line (from CSMT to Thane and beyond) after passengers patronising non-AC suburban trains at Badlapur and Kalwa stations in neighbouring Thane district agitated.
Even Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar entered the debate by claiming AC trains should be permanently withdrawn and be replaced with normal ones for the benefit of passengers.
Central Railway ferries around 40 lakh passengers on its suburban network, which spans from CSMT to Kasara and Khopoli (main line), CSMT to Panvel and Goregaon (harbour line), Vashi to Thane and Panvel (trans-harbour line) and the newly commissioned Bamandongri-Belapur/ Seawood line.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday promised fixed salaries for village heads besides direct funds for panchayats if his party came to power in Gujarat.
The Delhi chief minister, who arrived in the BJP-ruled state for a two-day campaign tour on Friday, was speaking at a conclave of sarpanchas (village heads) here.
Elections are due in Gujarat by year-end.
An AAP government will provide a salary of Rs 10,000 per month for the sarpanch and Rs 10 lakh for the village panchayat which would be transferred directly by the state government, Kejriwal said.
Village Computer Entrepreneurs (VCEs) who work on commission basis will also get a salary of Rs 20,000, he added.
“A sarpanch wins an election in his village and people like and respect him. He is the leader of his village. After winning the election, the sarpanch spends money from his pocket because he has no funds for the work people want him to do,” Kejriwal said at the townhall event in Surendranagar city.
When a sarpanch approaches an MLA or district official seeking funds, they ask for “commission”, the AAP leader said.
“We will end this commission (system). We will fix the salary of the sarpanch. Every sarpanch will get Rs 10,000 per month. I know it is a small amount. But we will start with Rs 10,000 and increase it slowly. Every sarpanch will get Rs 10,000 to meet his expenses,” the Delhi CM said.
Every panchayat will get Rs 10 lakh directly from the government so that a sarpanch does not have to beg for funds for minor works related to water supply, roads or sanitation, he said.
All these promises will be fulfilled before February 28 next year, Kejriwal added.
An AAP government will also start a school and `mohalla clinic’ in each of the 18,000 village panchayats in Gujarat, he said, claiming that in the party-ruled Punjab 100 mohalla clinics were opened in the first 75 days and all villages will get one in the next two or three years.
He appealed to sarpanchas and VCEs to promote the AAP in their villages.
“Had people been happy with the BJP, you would not have come to listen to us in this hall. Wherever I go (in Gujarat), a large number of people turn up because they are fed up with them (BJP) and their hooliganism. People want new hope,” he said.
Kejriwal also claimed that if an election were to be held in Delhi today, “we will get more than 65 seats”.
He also reiterated the other promises he has made in Gujarat so far, including free and quality education and healthcare for all and Rs 1,000 allowance to women.
“I can see some magic happening in Gujarat this time. Until two months ago the atmosphere was not like this,” he said.
On the BJP’s criticism of him for promoting `revadi’ (freebie) culture, he said the saffron party was using the money collected by increasing taxes to “buy MLAs and topple elected governments.” “They have imposed so much tax… (but) they are not constructing schools, hospitals or spending money on water, electricity,” he said.
“They bought MLAs in Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, Goa, Manipur, Assam, Bihar, and now they are going to buy MLAs in Jharkhand. They had come to Delhi to purchase our MLAs for Rs 20 crore each,” he alleged.
“They could not get a single MLA from Delhi. All the MLAs are with us. We are honest people,” the AAP leader added.
National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Saturday met Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and state Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari at their official residences here.
Doval met Koshyari at Raj Bhavan. It was a courtesy call, a statement from the governor’s office said.
He met Shinde at `Varsha’, the official residence of the chief minister.
Doval was welcomed by Shinde with a bouquet and shawl after he offered prayers at Lord Ganesh’s idol at the chief minister’s residence, Shinde’s office said in a statement.
The idol has been installed as part of the ongoing Ganesh festival.
Jammu and Kashmir’s strong socioeconomic growth is ushering in a qualitative change in the sports sector, enabling sportspersons to achieve and demonstrate excellence, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said on Saturday.
He said two “biggest challenges” that beset J&K in the were the “piecemeal approach” to sports activities prior to 2019, and the disruption caused by the Covid pandemic.
“Today, J-K UT has regained confidence and we are creating an equitable and inclusive sports and recreation culture with modern infrastructure and training comparable to the best in the country,” he said.
Highlighting the sporting events organised under the ‘My Youth My Pride’ in 22 disciplines in the Kashmir Division and 18 in the Jammu Division, the Lt governor said the programme is turning out to be a solid forum for sportspersons to bring glory to themselves as well as the community.
“My Youth My Pride is dedicated to advancing sports by empowering young men and women. It has inculcated a winner’s instinct among youth and kindled hopes of an ascent in sporting performance in national and international games,” he said.
The J-K Sports Council has successfully completed many key infrastructure projects which are playing an essential role in training the youth in different sports, Sinha said.
“Our strong socioeconomic growth is succeeding in bringing a qualitative change in sports sector and enabling our sportspersons to demonstrate their excellence,” he said.
Lauding the efforts of Sports Associations and Sports Council for regular engagement of athletes and reviving the culture of night football matches in various districts, the Lt governor said it was a matter of pride that thousands of athletes, coaches and sports officials around the UT are making valuable contributions and ensuring path-breaking achievements.
“Gymnastic Academy, Football Academy, Cricket Academy and Water Sports Centre have a plan to engage around five lakh youth and children. This gives us the hope and confidence that by creating the right environment for the young generation, we can produce best talents and win prestigious sporting honours.
Today our athletes can dream big and fulfill their dreams and ambitions,” the Lt Governor said. “We should all make concerted efforts to motivate youth to put their best efforts in games so that the J-K UT benefits through a vigorous and dynamic sporting talent pool and sportspersons can become crucial partners in the development journey,” he said.
During Phase-I of the ‘My Youth My Pride’ more than 8.5 Lakh youth from across the UT had participated, while 13.74 Lakh youth are aimed to be engaged in Phase-II.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday appealed to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers in Gujarat to work for his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) while staying in the ruling party.
Kejriwal said BJP workers should continue to get “payment” from the BJP but work for AAP “from inside”.
Addressing a press conference in Rajkot on the final day of his two-day visit to poll-bound Gujarat, Kejriwal said BJP workers will benefit from all the “guarantees” promised by him to people when his party comes to power in the state.
“We do not want BJP leaders. The BJP can keep its leaders. BJP’s ‘panna pramukhs’, workers in villages, booths and talukas are joining us in droves. I would like to ask them what the BJP gave them in return for their service in the party even after so many years?” the AAP national convener asked.
Kejriwal said the BJP did not offer free and quality education, healthcare and free electricity to BJP workers and their family members but AAP will care for their welfare.
“You (BJP workers) can stay in that party but work for AAP. Many of them get paid (by BJP), so take the payment from there but work for us, because we do not have money,” he said.
“When we form a government, we will provide free electricity, and this will apply to your houses as well. We will provide you with free, 24-hour power, and build good schools for your children where they will get free education. We will ensure free and quality treatment for your family members and offer Rs 1,000 to women (as allowance) in your family,” he said.
Appealing to the saffron party workers, Kejriwal said there is no point staying in the BJP and ensuring its victory again after 27 years of rule.
“I would like to tell all the BJP workers to stay there but work for the AAP. You are smart, work for AAP from the inside,” he further said.
He raised the issue of the recent attack on Gujarat AAP general secretary Manoj Sorathiya and apprehended that many more attacks will take place “on the people of Gujarat for supporting AAP”.
“The attack on Manoj Sorathiya shows that BJP is desperate. It is not able to understand what to do. It is staring at a defeat,” he said.
Kejriwal said AAP is not like Congress and cannot be intimidated by the ruling party.
Challenging the ruling BJP, he said, “You have dealt with Congress so far, but we are AAP people. We consider Sardar Patel and Bhagat Singh as our ideals”.
Kejriwal said if BJP thinks it can scare AAP by orchestrating such attacks, then it is wrong.
“We are not going to be scared. We are not cowards. We will fight hard against injustice and corruption. Six crore people of Gujarat now have an alternative (in AAP). They will respond to the 27 years of misgovernance (of BJP),” he said.
He appealed to people to not resort to violence.
“I would like to tell the people that the number of attacks will increase in the coming 2-3 months not just on AAP but on the people. They will attack those people who say they will vote for AAP. Those who speak against BJP will be attacked. They are going to attack people in large numbers,”the AAP leader said.
He said people shouldn’t resort to violence but stay patient and express anger by pressing the (EVM) button to vote out BJP.
Kejriwal, who has announced a string of “guarantees” in a bid to reach out to various sections of the society in Gujarat, said he had met representatives of police personnel, anganwadi and ASHA workers, health workers, traffic cops, gram raksha dal (GRD), auto drivers, and home guards among others during his multiple visits to the state.
The AAP leader said he will meet every group separately in the coming days.
“We have less time. All of you should promote us in your own ways. Especially promote us on social media…Set social media on fire. I would like to appeal to you all to promote the AAP on social media. We will meet you separately and will resolve your issues,” he said.
The assembly elections in Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, are slated to be held in December this year.
Kejriwal also attacked the state government for forming a committee of three ministers to listen to the grievances of protesting groups.
“Your intention is not right. You do not want to (resolve the issues of protesting groups). You will offer them lollipops and mislead them. I would like to tell you all to not listen to them,” he said.
On the last day of his two-day Gujarat visit on Saturday, Kejriwal is scheduled to attend a ‘townhall’ meeting of sarpanches and ‘village computer entrepreneurs’ in Surendranagar.
He will visit Surat city in the evening to take part in ‘aarti’ at a Ganesh pandal, which has been set up outside the AAP’s office in the Seemada Naka area and named ‘AAP Ka Raja’.
A two-year-old girl was killed and her parents and a minor sister were injured when a water tanker hit their motorcycle in Bhiwandi city in Maharashtra’s Thane district, police said on Saturday.
Police have registered a case of culpable homicide among other charges under the Indian Penal Code against the tanker owner Pramnath Bagal and the driver Jairam Jaiswal, who was at the wheel at the time of the accident on September 1.
The two-year-old girl, Khatija Khan, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Mumbai on Friday, police said.
Prima facie, the truck didn’t have a valid permit but Bagal allowed Jaiswal to drive.

The passenger was intercepted at the Mumbai international airport on suspicion on August 28 and was taken to a state-run hospital.
“The pax, who is from Ghana landed at the Mumbai Airport, where he was intercepted by the Customs officials on suspicion. During the search, officials did not find anything in his luggage, but during the investigation, the officials found that he had swallowed 87 capsules containing Cocaine,” said a tweet posted from Mumbai Customs-III handle.
