Shivsena MP Rahul Shewale has sent a letter to MoS Home Ajay Kumar Mishra to take action against the actor Mona Ambegaonkar for her tweet against Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Shewale has requested MoS Home to order the concerned agencies to remove the controversial tweet.

“I would like to draw your kind attention to the Tweet made by Mona Ambegaonkar at 6.47 p.m. on August 22, 2022, against Swatantraya Veer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. This tweet is of a very controversial nature and has no authenticity,” Shewale stated in the letter.

“In my view, it has no historical fact and malice the figure of a great Freedom Fighter, who fought against the English Empire for the independence of India,” he further stated.

“I strongly condemn the Tweet. I request you kindly take strong cognizance of the Tweet and order the concerned agency to immediately remove the tweet from social media. I also request you to order to take against Mona Ambekaonkar for making such a fake Tweet against a reputed Freedom Fighter,” he added.

Earlier Ambegaonkar tweeted, “Savarkar’s first conviction, was for the attempted rape of Margaret Lawrence, in 1908. He confessed to the crime and was sentenced to four months in jail. This ‘sanskari’ low criminal, is the Sangh Parivar’s role model today. No wonder most of them are rapists.”

The tweet by the actress has now been deleted.

9 killed in jeep-car collision near Bengaluru

Nine persons were killed and 11 sustained injuries after a cruiser jeep collided with a truck on the National Highway near Bengaluru on Thursday.

The accident happened near the city of Tumakuru located 70 kilometres Northwest of Bengaluru.

Superintended Police (SP) Rahul Shahpurwad visited the spot of the accident and informed,

“The cruiser jeep was carrying daily wage workers who were moving towards Bengaluru city in search of work”.

Reportedly, all injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment, where their condition is currently stable.

More details are awaited. Earlier on August 17, five members of a family died after a car collided with a container truck that was driving on the wrong side of the road on the Ahmednagar-Pune Highway in Pune in the early hours the day, police said.

The mishap took place near Ranjangaon Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation.

The day began on a great note for the Indian badminton contingent at the BWF (Badminton World Federation) World Championships with the men’s doubles pair of MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila advancing to the next stage of the tournament.

Playing on court one, the Indian duo made a sensational comeback after losing the first set to win the match 18-21, 21-15, and 21-16.

They faced a stern challenge from the Singaporean pair of KH Loh and H Terry throughout the match and had to really grind it to register a win they will cherish for years.

The first set was a tightly knit affair where the Singaporean pair capitalized on key moments, putting pressure on the Indian duo. They managed to edge past the Indians in the first set with a brilliant display of attacking shots.

Feeding on the winning momentum that the Indian shuttlers garnered in their past matches, the pair did not crack under pressure and bounced back with a stunning display of skills right through the second set to level the match.

In the deciding set, the pair built pressure right from the beginning, playing with great tactics and not giving away opportunities for their opponent to score. It seemed that the pair of Loh and Terry had run out of gas in the final set allowing the Indians to dominate. The Indians played beautifully at the backcourt accompanied by deft touches at the net to close out the set and the match.

Dhruv Kapila jumped with joy punching the air while his partner fell to the ground in excitement to celebrate the hard-fought victory.

The pair has now advanced to the quarterfinal stage of the tournament and will hope to continue their winning run to ensure a podium finish.

Another men’s doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy will be in action against the Danish pair for a place in the quarterfinals.

Lakshya Sen will also square off against Prannoy HS for a berth in the quarterfinals.

Outgoing UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Wednesday during his visit to Kyiv that he opposes any attempt to hold talks and normalize relations with Russia over its ongoing military operation in Ukraine.

“We must fight any creeping attempt to normalize relations with [Russian President Vladimir] Putin… We also know that this is not the time to advance some flimsy plan for negotiation with someone who is simply not interested. You can’t negotiate with a bear while it’s eating your leg, and you can’t negotiate with a street robber who has pinned you to the floor,” Johnson told a joint press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv, reported Sputnik.

The negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow would be impossible even if Putin offered them, Johnson said.

“There is no negotiation, there is no offer. Vladimir Putin is not even offering a negotiation. And even if he were, it’s hard to see how you could, how the people of Ukraine could negotiate under current circumstances,” Johnson added.

On February 24, Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine after the breakaway republics of Donetsk and Luhansk appealed for help in defending themselves against Ukrainian forces. In response, Western countries have rolled out a comprehensive sanctions campaign against Moscow.

3 American troops injured in rocket attacks in Syria

Three American troops were injured in two rocket attacks in Syria earlier in the day and the United States responded with strikes from attack helicopters, US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement.

“One US service member in Mission Support Site Conoco was treated for a minor injury and has been returned to duty. Two others are under evaluation for minor injuries,” Sputnik reported quoting the CENTCOM as saying. CENTCOM said on Wednesday that suspected Iran-backed militants launched several rockets at two US facilities housing American troops in both Conoco and Green Village in northeast Syria on Wednesday evening.

However, the US forces responded using attack helicopters and destroyed three vehicles and equipment used to launch several rockets, the statement said.

Initial assessments indicated that the US forces killed two or three of the suspected militants that conducted one of the attacks, Sputnik reported citing sources.

An investigation of the attack is underway.

Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor has apologized for his ‘Phailod’ comment on his pregnant wife Alia Bhatt in a recent promotional event for his upcoming film ‘Brahmastra: Part 1-Shiva’.

Ranbir, on Wednesday, arrived in Chennai for the promotion of his upcoming sci-fi action film ‘Brahmastra’ along with south director SS Rajamouli and actor Nagarjuna.

The ‘Sanju’ actor during the media interaction apologised for his comment and said, “Yes, absolutely. Firstly, let me start with, I love my wife with everything that I have in my life. And what happened on that, I think it’s a joke that didn’t turn out to be funny. I really want to apologize if I have triggered anyone. It was not my intention. So I want to say sorry to people who got offended or triggered. I spoke to Alia about it and she really laughed it off and she didn’t mind it. But I do have a bad sense of humour and sometimes it falls flat on my own face. So I am sorry if I have hurt anyone about it.”

Recently, Ranbir and Alia along with director Ayan Mukerji started a YouTube live session for the promotion of their film.

During the live session, when the duo was asked why they are not actively promoting ‘Brahmastra’ in the way they do for other movies, Alia replied, “We will promote the film, and we will be everywhere but if the question you are asking is why we are not ‘phailod’ everywhere, right now our focus is…” It was at this point that Ranbir cut her in between and pointed at his wife’s baby bump saying, “Well I can say somebody has phailod (referencing her weight gain).” However, he did add that his comment was meant as a joke.

Though Ranbir made it clear that he was joking, unfortunately, it did not go well with many social media users, who later slammed the ‘Shamshera’ actor for allegedly ‘fat-shaming’ Alia.

The clip of the interaction circulated on several social media.

Ranbir and Alia tied the knot on April 14, 2022, and in June 2022, the couple announced the news of their pregnancy.

Apart from the baby’s arrival, the two are also awaiting the release of their film ‘Brahmastra’, which is scheduled to hit the theatres on September 9.

Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy, and south actor Nagarjuna will also be seen in prominent roles in Ayan Mukerji’s directorial.

China sends a “SPY Vessel” on the port as it attempts to exploit Srilanka

China’s unserving maneuver to dock the Yuan Wang 5, missile and satellite tracking ship at Hambantota port in Sri Lanka despite the country’s request to defer the visit of the ship amid security concerns raised by India and the United States might seem like a victory for Beijing in this strategically important island nation but in fact, it reinforces the image of China as a predatory imperial power that is trying to exploit Sri Lanka for its own purposes, a media report said.

The Yuan Wang 5, China’s missile and satellite tracking ship which had berthed at Hambantota port in Sri Lanka departed on Monday.

There were grave concerns that the ship could conduct satellite research in the northwestern part of the Indian Ocean region, prompting security concerns from India.

India had expressed its security concerns over the docking of the vessel at the Sri Lankan port as it was touted as a research vessel with the capability of mapping the ocean bed, which is critical to the anti-submarine operations of the Chinese Navy.

However, China claimed that the docking of its Yuan Wang 5 ship at Hambantota port in Sri Lanka does not affect any country and termed it a normal exchange between the two countries.

Sri Lanka’s Foreign Affairs Minister confirmed that the Chinese vessel ‘Yuan Wang-5’, widely believed to be a spy ship, has been given clearance to arrive at Hambantota Port on August 16.

“Having considered all material in place, on 13 August 2022, the clearance to the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China was conveyed for the deferred arrival of the vessel from 16-22 August 2022,” Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement.

Giving details about the process, the foreign affairs ministry said that they were informed by China via a diplomatic note on June 28 regarding Yuan Wang 5 arrival.

The Sri Lankan government was requested to provide necessary assistance and positive consideration to the request by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China.

China’s strategy to lure countries into its debt trap beguiled Sri Lanka to be dependent heavily on China for economic support, and military equipment.

Sri Lanka also took loans in bulk for various development projects. But during the recent crisis in the country, when for months, Sri Lanka has been pleading with China for more support, but to no avail, Channel News Asia reported.

Beijing has done little to help the country through its devastating economic meltdown, providing far less aid than India. India moved in to alleviate Sri Lanka’s desperate food and fuel shortages with over USD 3.8 billion of assistance. Beijing, by contrast, provided a relatively paltry USD 74 million.

In India, no political party has any internal democracy, including BJP, AAP and TMC. The question is of accountability, we should appreciate Rahul Gandhi, who takes moral responsibility after the congress debacle, and he is an honest politician who cares about public sentiments in the current scenario. Congress is in revamp mode. They are trying to bring a party chief, who can be any other leader than the Gandhi family member.

In the meantime, Sonia Gandhi is going abroad for her medical treatment, as she is unwell for a long time. The news about Sonia Gandhi offering Congress Chief Post to Ashok Gehlot and his denial was rather interesting news. So why then did the other leaders who are now have broken away and formed the G23 group didn’t allow him to take up such a post? When Ashok Gehlot was given the Chance of a Non-Gandhi person to take over, he could have very well agreed would have avoided leaders such as Kapil Sibal, Anand Sharma, Ghulam Nabi Azad and others to have quit and formed the G23 party. However, it is never too late as the deadline is on the 20th August when the election is to be held, Ashok Gehlot should boldly agree to be willing for the post and bring back all those who had left the party and strengthen it before the 2024 elections.

Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will travel with Sonia Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi will address the Congress’ ‘Mehangai Par Halla Bol’ rally in New Delhi on September 4, 2022. Other than Gehlot, Congress has a list of good leaders like Pawan Khera, Siddaramaiah, Randeep Surjewala, Shashi Tharoor, P Chidambaram to take up bigger responsibility. If Congress has to make a comeback, then they should immediately look for some good 50 to 60 AGE, Dynamic, excellent orator as their President and probable candidate for PM otherwise. Gehlot is the front-runner for the post if all three Gandhis turn it down. But he reasserted today that there was no question of anyone other than Rahul Gandhi leading the party.

Rahul Gandhi has refused to return as Congress president after he quit over the party’s abject defeat in the 2019 national election. He has reportedly asserted that it is time for a non-Gandhi to step up. Sonia Gandhi has said she can’t continue in the role because of her poor health. Priyanka Gandhi has preferred to support the party but with no position. If Rahul Gandhi does not become the party president, it will be a disappointment for the congress representatives in the country. Many people will sit at home and we will suffer. Gehlot stated that Rahul Gandhi should accept this post by himself, understanding the sentiments of the common Congress people in the country. The Congress is already running late on the start of its internal election. The schedule may be announced later this week after a meeting of the Congress Working Committee (CWC), which will be attended virtually by Sonia Gandhi. A member of the Gandhi family has led the Congress for much of its 136-year-old history.

Perhaps this I s one reason many Congress leaders left the party. Recently Jaiveer Shergill resigned with sharp jabs at the Gandhis in a letter that said the “vision of the party’s decision-makers is no longer in sync” with the aspirations of the youth. All three Gandhis had denied him a meeting for over a year. The primary reason for his move, he said in a resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi, was that the ideology and the vision of the current decision-makers of the Congress is no longer in sync with the aspirations of the youth and modern India. The 39-year-old lawyer was among the youngest and most prominent spokespersons of the Congress. He had not been seen at the party’s media briefings for a while.

Gandhi family’s visit abroad comes when the party is prepping for its Kanyakumari to Kashmir ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ starting September 7. It also comes ahead of the election of party president, the schedule for which is expected to be out this week. The news report about Sonia Gandhi heading abroad for Check-up, Rahul and Priyanka to accompany, was rather sad and disturbing news. In spite of her poor health yet she is so loyal and sincere to the Indian nation being a foreigner herself. I highly appreciated this. But she is going when there is a heavy schedule of the Congress party and we wish her all good health and that she returns perfectly fit to be ready for the election of the party president and that they will put a suitable person in her place.

PM Modi will be addressing the “National Conference” of Labour Ministers of all states and Union Territories tomorrow

With the aim to create synergy amongst the Centre and state governments on labour issues and matters related to workers’ welfare, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the National Conference of Labour Ministers of all States and Union Territories tomorrow via video conferencing.

The two-day conference is being organised by the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment on August 25-26 at Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh.

According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), the conference is being convened in the spirit of cooperative federalism to discuss various significant labour-related issues. It will help create further synergy amongst the Centre and state governments in formulating better policies and ensuring effective implementation of schemes for the welfare of workers.

The conference will have four thematic sessions on integrating e-Shram portal for onboarding social security schemes to universalize social protection; Swasthya se Samriddhi for improving medical care through ESI hospitals run by State Governments and integration with PMJAY; framing of rules under four Labour Codes and modalities for their implementation; Vision Shramev Jayate @2047 with focus on just and equitable conditions of work, social protection to all workers, including gig and platform workers, gender equality at work, among other issues.
