Six men harassing journalist’s wife in Malad caught on CCTV, arrested

The Mumbai Police have arrested six men on Tuesday who were found assaulting a couple at Sainath Market in Malad. They were caught under CCTV surveillance.

The journalist and his wife were in Sainath Market when a group of miscreants passed lewd remarks at her.
When the husband objected to the remarks, the group resorted to violence and threatened the couple of dire consequences.

However, the miscreants were unaware of CCTV installed in the market from where the police got the footage of the entire incident.

As per the police, the accused were wearing knucle-dusters and have been arrested.

All six have been booked under Sections 354 (assaulting woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 324 (causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 506 (criminal intimidation) among others.

Dalit boy hanged to death for allegedly meeting an upper caste girl

In a shocking incident, a 17-year-old Dalit boy was hanged to death from a tree in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra for allegedly meeting an upper caste girl. The Dalit boy was hanged from a tree by three people for meeting one of the alleged culprit’s sister at Ahmednagar.

The incident took place on April 28 when the boy had reportedly gone to meet the girl near her school.

According to the police the girl’s brother spotted both of them near the school. Infuriated, the brother and his friends started thrashing the Dalit boy.

Thereafter, they took the boy near their village (Khada) and thrashed him further before hanging him from the tree.

The three culprits (Sheshrao Yevlekar, Sachin Golekar and another person) have been arrested and have been sent to police custody till May 2.

Modi versus Miss Mamata

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of Bengal, unfolded new venomous language against BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, stating that, “If he becomes PM, the country will be set on fire.” Nowadays, Trinamool Congress is aggressively criticising Gujarat CM and even Modi is attacking her consistently. This kind of frustration from TMC only reflects that BJP is indeed becoming a big force in West Bengal and Mamata is scared of that. Further,if NDA comes withmajority then her business of blackmailing the centre will come to a halt.

Ms. Banerjee and her Trinamool Congress have hurled rough language at Modi, using terms like “the butcher of Gujarat” to indict him for the communal riots in his home state of Gujarat in 2002. A Supreme Court inquiry found no evidence of his complicity in the violence, which left over 2,000 people dead, most of them were Muslims. A Gujarat court has recently upheld that report. Mr. Modi has outraged Ms Banerjee’s party by stating at a rally in Bengal that she has caused more damage to Bengal in 35 months than her rivals, the Left, allegedly inflicted in 34 years of uninterrupted rule in the state. The Trinamool is particularly offended by Mr. Modi’s allegation that a painting by Ms Banerjee was bought for 1.86 crores by a controversial entrepreneur who is now in prison.

Mamata and Derek O’Brien are forgeting that Modi has been given clean chit by the SC on the riots issue whereas West Bengal continues to witness lawlessness in every sphere of activity. Life of the ordinary citizen is at stake in WB. No businessman or corporate houses want to start their business there. The Tata episode is on their mind. Virtually, it is a ‘goonda raj’ in that state and situation has not changed like previous government. The state is playing withfire as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh are a menace and sooner or later her party will support them to make them Indian citizen or come up with schemes which will benefit them for the sake of votes. She will be always inclined towards Congress because she is one of them and has come out from Congress. If one goes to Cambridge for higher studies, he or she will never forget his/her school, where his/her education had begun. West Bengal is totally under her control. Didi should first look at Bengal. Bengal only ranks higher than Bihar in terms of development. Kolkata was known as the cultural capital of India once. Today, nobody wants to do any business in Bengal state? Why? Didi and communists are different sides of the same coin. They had blotted Bengalis.

From the companionship between Modi and Banerjee years ago over “filling potholes” in West Bengal to the no-holds-barred verbal duel, the relations between the two parties have taken a bitter turn. BJP leaders who had refrained from taking on Banerjee, who was at some point seen as a potential post-poll ally, have dropped their inhibitions in castigating her party. When Anna Hazare joined Mamata’s camp, everyone thought he is with her looking at the future alliance with the BJP. Kiran Bedi joined BJP camp and Anna had quit Mamata. Every equation on Mamata’s front went wrong. Now,either she may join third front or again support UPA to come to power. Jayalalithaa attacked the BJP for the first time just before Modi was to address a rally in Chennai earlier this month. The BJP, which has formed a six-party alliance in the state, dismissed this as the “usual rhetoric” at the time of election.

Modi asked her that how she sold her painting for more than Rs. 1 crore; what was wrong in that? Instead of replying her and all her goondas, he remained silent. While the BJP’s central leadership had refrained from attacking Banerjee, its state unit was against such a strategy as the TMC had shown no inclination to get close to the NDA even in a post-poll scenario. The Election Commission has sought a transcript of Modi’s comments to investigate whether he violated the model code of conduct.

For an ordinary person outside Bengal, the aggressive attack of Banerjee on Modi might surprise them. They might wonder why she is so miffed with Modi’s innocent comments on her painting. He just wanted to know the name of the person who bought her painting. Banerjee even went on to call him a ‘shaitan’ (devil). Her party spokesperson and Rajya Sabha member Derek O’Brien gave Modi the title of ‘Butcher of Gujarat’ and questioned his role in post-Godhra riots. Unlike the mainstream news channels, the Bengali media is abuzz with the name of the man who bought one of Mamata Banerjee’s painting for Rs 1.8 crore. It is none other than the chairman and the managing director of the Saradha Group Sudipta Sen, who is already embroiled in the scandal surrounding a chit fund scam in which thousands of investors lost their money and many have lost their jobs since the collapse of the group.

Time and again, Mamata Banerjee has made clear that she has no intention of going with BJP. In one of the first rallies in Kolkata, Modi began his speech by praising her. One thought it was his attempt to build bridges for a prospective post-poll alliance. After all, TMC was part of the original National Democratic Alliance government during Vajpayee era. However, Banerjee seemed to be in no mood to reciprocate. One cannot forget that she has to keep in mind her popularity among nearly 25 per cent Muslim electorates in West Bengal.

‘Yeh dil maange more’: Narendra Modi uses Kargil martyr’s phrase, upsets his family

Vikram-BatraCampaigning in Palampur, the Himachal Pradesh hometown of Kargil martyr Vikram Batra, Narendra Modi borrowed his famous catch-phrase to ask for votes: “Yeh Dil Maange More!” At his next election rally in the state, he did that again.

Captain Batra’s family was not impressed. His mother, Kamal Kanta Batra, the Aam Aadmi Party candidate from neighboring Hamirpur, has accused the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate of being a “pseudo patriot” and has challenged him to a debate on the welfare of soldiers.

“Modi was in charge of the BJP in Himachal during the Kargil war. He was in Palampur when Vikram died. Why didn’t he visit us or any martyrs family then. Why remember us after 15 years?” she said.

Vikram Batra’s father said, “The BJP must not drag his name into politics.” The Batra family also challenged Mr Modi to withdraw the BJP’s candidate against the hero’s mother “if he feels so indebted to martyrs.”

In Delhi, the BJP’s Meenakshi Lekhi argued, “It was a company’s slogan..it’s not their slogan…and isn’t she asking for votes as Vikram Batra’s mother?”

Captain Vikram Batra immortalised the words “Yeh dil maange more,” the catch-line from an ad campaign, in an interview to before he died fighting the 1999 Kargil war. He was 24.

In Palampur, Mr Modi said this morning, “I want your best wishes. I want to serve you. You’ve given them (Congress) 60 years. Can’t you give me 60 months? Yeh dil maange more! Give me 60 months.”

“Where will more Vikram Batras come from?” he asked, accusing the Congress of betraying India’s soldiers.

At the other rally he said, “Vikram Batra died for the country – he had said – yeh dil maange more. I say it too. I want all four seats in Himachal. I want 300 lotuses across India.”

In Hamirpur, known for its large concentration of ex-servicemen and serving soldiers, Mrs Batra’s BJP opponent is prominent MP Anurag Thakur, a former chief minister’s son. It’s the first election the 66-year-old school teacher is contesting.

Captain Batra was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest war-time gallantry award.

Why didn’t Sonia, Modi campaign against each other? asks Kejriwal

Launching a direct attack on Sonia Gandhi and Narendra Modi, Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday accused the duo of having a tacit pre-poll understanding.

The Aam Aadmi Party chief asked why the Congress president and the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate had refrained from campaigning in each other’s constituencies.

While Sonia is contesting the 2014 Lok Sabha polls from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, Modi is fighting from two seats — Vadodara in Gujarat and Varanasi in UP. Kejriwal himself is a candidate from Varanasi.

Taking up the Robert Vadra controversy, Kejriwal asked why has the BJP failed to register an FIR against Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law despite levelling allegations against him.

“We registered five FIRs against Sheila Dikshit in 49 days. Why can’t the BJP in Rajasthan register an FIR against Vadra?” he asked, as reported by a newspaper.

Questioning the Congress-led UPA government’s sincerity, Kejriwal pointed out that the Centre had failed to arrest Modi in connection with the Snoopgate scandal.

The AAP chief alleged that both the parties avoid taking action against top leaders of the other party.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Smriti Irani in war of words yet again

A war of words again broke out on Tuesday between Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and BJP’s Amethi Lok Sabha candidate Smriti Irani, as the Gandhi scion called the former TV actor an “armchaired politician.”

Addressing a gathering here earlier in the day, from where her brother, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi is contesting, Priyanka took a jibe at Irani, calling her an ‘armchair politician’ who is not in touch with ground reality.

“Some opposition leaders come here and spread misinformation. They are not in touch with ground reality,” Priyanka said.

Irani hit back at Priyanka, saying: “seems Mrs Vadra has a problem defining me”.

Youth sets himself ablaze, hugs BSP leader

A youth set himself on fire and embraced a BSP leader in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur town during a live TV debate on the Lok Sabha election, police said Tuesday.

The incident occurred Monday night during Doordarshan’s ‘Janmat 2014’ programme that was being shot at Tikonia Park.

A debate was taking place between leaders of various political parties. Suddenly a young man drenched in petrol stepped out and set himself on fire.

He then rushed towards Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Kamruzzama Fauji and embraced him. The man and the BSP leader sustained serious burn injuries.

Police said the youth, Durgesh from Mau district, suffered 95 percent burns while Kamruzzama Fauji sustained 75 percent burns. Both were rushed to the trauma centre in Lucknow, where their condition is stated to be critical.

Both the victims are battling for their lives, a doctor said.

Congress leader Ram Kumar Singh and another leader Chowdhary Hriday Ram Verma also sustained minor burn injuries while trying to save them.

A key of a local hotel has been recovered from the man.

Police have so far not been able to know the reason behind the extreme step.

Lalu Prasad attacks Narendra Modi, says even butchers are ashamed of being compared to him

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav launched a blistering attack on Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi on Tuesday and said that even a butcher would feel ashamed to be compared with him.

Lalu further questioned whether a person like Modi is suitable to be the prime minister of the country.

“A butcher is also shy of Narendra Modi. Will this man become the PM of India?,” he said.

The comment by the RJD chief comes a day after Trinamool Congress (TMC) called Modi “the Butcher of Gujarat” after he alleged that TMC chief Mamata Banerjee’s painting was sold for Rs 1.80 crore.

Modi’s claim was denied by TMC and Derek O’Brien, Trinamool spokesperson, wrote on party’s website, “The butcher of Gujarat could not take care of his own wife. How will he take care of this great nation?”

Meanwhile, BJP came out in defence of Modi and termed Lalu’s comment as “shameless”.

Jharkhand woman claims she was gang-raped for working with BJP

A woman in Jharkhand has alleged she was gang-raped by more than a dozen men because she is working with the BJP, the police said on Tuesday.

The woman, who is Muslim and in her 30s, says she, is part of a local minority wing of the BJP designed to attract Muslim voters to the party, which is expected to win the most seats in the national election.

The woman says in her police complaint that a mob attacked her at her home on Monday and also assaulted her 13-year-old daughter. Her husband was allegedly handcuffed during the attack.

Anurag Gupta, a senior officer and spokesman for Jharkhand police, confirmed an investigation had started but said it was too soon to confirm her allegations of a political motive for the attack.

“An investigation from all angles is on and it is very difficult at present to say the exact reason behind the incident,” Mr. Gupta told. Police inspector TN Singh in the police station closest to woman’s home said villagers had used the loudspeaker of the mosque to alert others to the assault, after which the attackers fled.

Women’s issues are high on the agenda in the parliamentary elections following the fatal gang-rape of a student on a New Delhi bus in December 2012, which ignited a national debate about sexual violence.

In the current Parliament women hold only 11 per cent of seats in both houses.

He is not a powerlifter neither a professional wrestler nor a heavyweight champion. But the 29-year-old has a hand that weighs 15 kilograms. Roop Kumar hails from Guna district in Madhya Pradesh.

The man had a tumor in his left hand which weighed about 15 kgs. The tumor worsened to an extent that he could even not do his daily chores.
