Govinda grateful to younger actors who copy his style

govinda04Ranveer Singh is an unabashed fan of senior actor Govinda and he has often copied his style for songs and performances. Govinda says he is grateful to such young talents who feel his inimitable dancing style is worth being imitated.

Ranveer is getting a chance to match steps with Govinda in Shaad Ali`s “Kill Dil”.

In fact, Ranveer even paid a tribute to Govinda`s dancing skills in Sanjay LeelaBhansali`s “Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram-Leela”, as well as at an awards function.

Showering praise on the younger talent, Govinda said: “Yes, I saw Ranveer in the song `Ishqyaundhishqyaun` in `…Ram-Leela`. He was in full form. I am grateful to the younger actors who think my style is worthy of being copied.”

The duo is said to be sharing a great bonding on the set of the Shaad Ali film.

“Shaad now plans to incorporate a full-on Govinda-Ranveer dance number where the fan will try to match steps with his idol,” said a source associated with “Kill Dill”.

Meanwhile, Govinda has lately lost a lot of weight to look convincing as RanbirKapoor`s father in AnuragBasu`s “JaggaJasoos”.

Stop passing the buck

Railways are considered as the lifeline of Mumbai. Everyday, the city’s suburban trains carry around six million passengers. The trains get overcrowded during the peak hours in morning and evening as officegoers and students try to enter inside it. The capacity of the train is only 1,500 passengers but it increases to 8,500 during the peak hours which prove fatal for commuters. Many times people try to board an overcrowded train as they stand on footboards. Later, many of them fall on the tracks after being hit by the poles. The worst part is that these commuters don’t even receive first-aid treatment for several hours. Often several passengers lose their lives as they don’t get any treatment during the golden hour. Golden hours means the hour immediately following traumatic injury in which medical treatment to prevent irreversible damage and optimise the chance of survival is most effective.

Sometimes commuters fall from the trains while trying to board a running train. The alarming rise in the number of accidents puts a question mark about the efficiency of railways.

Many times, commuters behave as if it was the last train of the day and they make every attempt to board it. Since ambulances are not available at several stations hence commuters don’t even get the treatment in time. As per rules, the railways have to send the accident victim to the nearest hospital available within 5 km radius. But often this is not done due to the lackadaisical attitude of the railways. If a government hospital was not found in a radius of five kilometres, the victim has to be admitted to a private hospital with the railways bearing the cost of the treatment. Often railways fail to take an initiative and pass the buck.

Last month, Monika More (16) had lost her both arms after falling off a moving train at Ghatkopar, an eastern suburb. She fell in the gap between the platform and footboard on the tracks. Monica was rushed to hospital by two commuters in an auto rickshaw. On the other hand, the Railway officials washed their hands off by failing to provide ambulances. Doctors who were treating Monica said that she would have lost her life due to excessive bleeding if she had not been rushed to hospital. The railways have categorized Monica More’s accident as a case of trespassing, raising the hackles of activists.
Even as help was pouring in for Monica through the week, 31-year-old electrician Tanvir Shaikh lost both legs when he slipped through the gap between the platform and a coach at Kurla station on Wednesday evening. As per a survey, it was found that Kurla and Kalyan on the central route and the stretch between Jogeshwari and Borivali on the Western route are the deadliest zones where more accidents occur.

In order to defend itself both, Western Railway and Central Railway filed separate affidavits in the Bombay High Court held the passenger responsible for the rising railway accidents but they failed to mention anything about increasing the height of platforms. They mentioned that overcrowding, impatient passengers and expensive bus fares responsible for the poor travelling conditions in the metropolis. According to them, the BEST bus fares were 6 to 7 times higher than railways which forces people to opt for commuting in suburban trains. They suggested that bus fares must be reduced and brought in tandem with the trains which will provide people another alternative for commuting. Instead of blaming the commuters for rail accidents railways must take steps to ensure the safety of passengers while commuting.

They should raise the height of platforms and provide ambulances at all the stations so that large number of lives could be saved during emergency. They could also start a trauma care centre at the station itself which will provide the victim with necessary first aid before he is taken to hospital. Finally, commuters too should behave responsibly and should not be in a hurry to catch running trains which is responsible for many mishaps. They must use overbridge and avoid crossing tracks. They should refrain from commuting in crowded trains and board the next train. Passengers should avoid commuting on footboards of trains as there is a possibility of them falling on the tracks. Railways have already started raising the height of platforms at some stations. Finally, railway accidents can be reduced if passengers and railways take some initiative to avoid mishaps.

Rakesh Maria a right choice for the coveted post

Finally, after a lot of speculation and hue and cry, Rakesh Maria has been appointed as the new Police Commissioner of Mumbai. I appreciate the state government’s decision to appoint Maria for the top job. Rakesh Maria was one of the deserving candidates among the list of the probable candidates for the coveted post. Rakesh Maria had served as the Chief of Anti Terrorist Squad so he is aware about the crime incidents occurring in the metropolis.
Rakesh Maria, who belongs to the 1981 batch of the Indian Police Service, cracked the twin blasts of Gateway of India and Zaveri Bazar in 2003. Maria also played a key role in arresting most of the accused responsible for the 1993 serial blasts. He probed the German Bakery blast case, the 2011 serial blasts and the Jangali Maharaj Road blast case.
Before Maria’s appointment as the new CP there were reports about the government trying to derive political mileage out of this issue by proposing the name of Vijay Kamble a Dalit officer to woo the Dalit community. Even Javed Ahmed’s name was been discussed. Congress wanted Vijay Kamble and Javed Ahmed to become the new police commissioner while Rakesh Maria was NCP’s choice. Thus one say that Congress had to bow down before its ruling partner NCP by appointing Maria as the new Police Commissioner.
Congress has played its cards well by appointing Maria for the top job and also pleased Vijay Kamble and Javed Ahmed by promoting them. Kamble has been appointed as the new police commissioner of Thane while Javed Ahmed has been promoted to Director General of Police. If Congress had appointed Vijay Kamble as the new CP then it would have given an opportunity for the BJP to criticise the party for indulging in vote bank politics.
Maria’s selection is bound to raise eyebrows, as the Police Establishment Board had recommended the names of three candidates (Kamble, Mathur and Maria) based on seniority, and Maria was the junior-most in that list. Although junior among the three contenders, Maria’s excellent record in crime detection and his knowledge of Mumbai and its underbelly stood him in good stead.
On Saturday, night a meeting was held between Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and Home Minister R.R. Patil for discussing about the name of the candidate for the police commissioner’s job. Finally, Maria’s name was finalised for the top job which was lying vacant since Former Police Commissioner Satyapal Singh resigned and joined the Bhartiya Janta Party.
Finally, the government took the right decision by appointing Rakesh Maria as the new Police Commissioner because he is a deserving candidate and also is aware about the city’s crime activities. Through his vast experience Maria can play a vital role in curbing crimes in the city. I wish Rakesh Maria all success in his future endeavour.

Politics behind Maria’s selection?

rakesh_mariaVijay Kamble and Ahmed Javed are disappointed with Rakesh Maria’s selection as the new Mumbai Police chief. Despite being seniors the duo has been sidelined for the coveted post.

The appointment of Rakesh Maria as the new Mumbai Police Commissioner has not gone down well with Vijay Kamble and Ahmed Javed who too were in fray for the top post. Even though Kamble and Javed have been promoted as the chief Police Commissioner of Thane and Director General of Police but they alleged that there has been too much political intervention in the selection process for the new Police Commissioner’s post. IPS officer Javed said that had the decision been taken in April 2013 when former CP Satyapal Singh was due for promotion, he would have been the natural choice.

After the appointment of Rakesh Maria for the coveted post Ahmed Javed said,” I am not disappointed with Rakesh Maria but with the manner in which the government is functioning. Too much political intervention is hampering the credibility of the police force. The delay in naming Mumbai’s top cop cost me the position that would have come to me automatically due to my seniority.”

The Congress had proposed the name of Vijay Kamble and Javed Ahmed for the post of the Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria was NCP’s choice. The Congress was banking on the candidature of Vijay Kamble to garner Dalit Votes. However, they backed off as the opposition would have criticised them for indulging in vote bank politics.

A close source revealed that Kamble was thinking about announcing voluntary retirement as he was unhappy after being sidelined for the post of police commissioner.

Till Saturday evening, Kamble was the front-runner for the post. “But a late evening meeting between home minister RR Patil and chief minister Prithviraj Chavan abruptly changed the game,” the source added

When asked Sanjay Patil, Mumbai president of NCP whether the appointment of Maria has been politically motivated, he said, “I can’t comment about this issue. Its better you should ask the same question to Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan or State Home Minister R.R. Patil.”

Rakesh Maria, who belongs to the 1981 batch of the Indian Police Service, played a key role in arresting most of the accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts. He has headed probes into 1993 Mumbai blasts and 26/11 attacks on the city.

Along with the appointment of new Police Commissioner, 86 officers also have been transferred across the state. Himanshu Roy is being appointed as the ATS chief. K.L Prasad has been appointed as the new Police Commissioner of Navi Mumbai. Rajendra Singh has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Police of Aurangabad.

Medha Patkar poses new challenge to Congress-NCP alliance in Mumbai

Medha-PatkarThe candidature of social activist Medha Patkar from Mumbai North East Lok Sabha constituency on Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ticket comes as bad news for Congress-NCP which made a clean sweep in the financial capital in 2009.

Patkar’s name is in the list of 20 candidates announced by AAP for the general elections today.

NCP sources said sitting MP Sanjay Patil, who is also the president of the Sharad Pawar-led party’s city unit, was facing resentment from inside the party and from Congress.

“Congress accused him of sabotaging its candidates in the municipal elections two years ago. NCP corporators and senior leaders are also not in favour of him,” a source said.

The constituency has a sizable Dalit population, which had helped RPI leader Ramdas Athawale in the past. But now Athawale, recently elected to Rajya Sabha, is with Shiv Sena-BJP alliance.
Patkar, who shot to fame with Narmada Bachao Andolan, has some base in the constituency as her National Alliance of Peoples Movement (NAPM) works in the slums of Mankhurd.

“We had done well in this area in the last Lok Sabha polls, but Patkar will eat into our votes. Ghatkopar East and West as well as Mulund have Gujarati population, and BJP is likely to do well there given the Narendra Modi factor,” said an NCP leader.

Former MP and BJP leader Kirit Somaiya could be the Sena-BJP alliance’s candidate from the constituency.

NCP sources said the party had already realised that it could be difficult to retain this seat, but Patkar’s entry had made it difficult further.

HC to hear fresh PIL against NSEL and Jignesh Shah on Monday

Jignesh-ShahThe Bombay High Court will on Monday hear a fresh PIL seeking transfer of a probe by Mumbai police into the alleged Rs. 5,500-crore scam involving National Spot Exchange Ltd (NSEL) and Jignesh Shah, to CBI.
The PIL filed by activist Ketan Tirodkar argues that since the scam has national and international ramifications only CBI has the necessary jurisdiction to probe this matter.

The NSEL case pertains to alleged financial embezzlements by the Multi-Commodity Exchange (MCX) and the Financial Technologies India Ltd (FTIL)–both promoted by Shah.

The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Mumbai Police is currently probing the case.

Though a bunch of PILs were filed in the high court, Tirodkar’s PIL would come up for hearing tomorrow.
The petition alleged those arrested so far like Nilesh Patel, a major borrower, and three employees of NSEL, including Anjani Sinha, were mere pawns in the game while concerted efforts were made to project Shah, the alleged mastermind in the fraud as a “victim”.

“This attempt to project the mastermind of the scam as a victim of conspiracy by his employees and borrowers is an outcome of the pressure of vested interests in the corridors of power who have been benefitted by the NSEL-MCX-FTIL triangular operations”, according to the PIL.

During the market stint of MCX, NSEL and FTIL, Shah launched many international platforms (Bourses and Trading companies) in tax-heavens, namely Mauritius, Botswana in Africa, Singapore and in Middle-east nations such as Dubai and Bahrain, to take advantage of the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement [DTAA] signed by India as a member of a Consortium of multiple nations, the PIL alleged.

These platforms were in form of bourses facilitating trading in futures for various commodities. The revenue from these bourses was transferred to India without inviting any tax liability and also revenue from Indian entities was siphoned off to these countries in the guise of payment schedules to be honoured, the PIL further alleged.

In reality, there were no payment schedules honoured and it was a financial market gimmick to avoid paying taxes in India, the PIL contended.

It further argued that Mumbai EOW has not yet sent any team abroad for interacting with

Sharad Pawar won’t merge NCP with Congress before elections: Munde

MundeClaiming that Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar won’t merge his party with Congress at least before the Lok Sabha elections, BJP leader Gopinath Munde on Sunday ruled out the BJP-Shiv Sena-RPI led ‘Maha-yuti’ (mega-alliance) having any “understanding” with NCP.

“NCP is not even a state-level party but a divisional level outfit having presence only in western Maharashtra,” Munde said, speaking to reporters ahead of a rally by top opposition leaders here this evening.

“We (opposition) are not willing to take Pawar into our fold. So that leaves Pawar no other option but to go with Congress,” Munde said.

“The opposition alliance is united and our only objective is to dislodge the Congress-NCP government,” Munde said.

After RPI leader Ramdas Athawale takes oath as Rajya Sabha member, his party will join NDA and he would be invited for all meetings of the BJP-led front at Centre, Munde said.

Similarly, Swabhimani Shetkari Sanghatana, led by Lok Sabha member Raju Shetty, will also be a part of NDA soon, the senior BJP leader said To a query on police booking Athawale over Indu mill violence, Munde said, “This is an attempt to silence the voice of opposition. We won’t be cowed down by such tactics.”

On reports of differences among the alliance partners over Madha Lok Sabha seat (where Pawar won in 2009), Munde said the issue would be sorted out amicably.

“The Mahayuti’s seat distribution will be finalised by this month-end,” he said. Rashtriya Samaj Party leader Mahadeo Jankar, a part of the Mahayuti, said he wanted to contest from Madha, but “some people in the alliance have hatched a conspiracy against me”. “However, I joined the alliance because of my faith in Munde and will abide by whatever he says,” Jankar added.

Congress to find it hard to maintain LS seats won in 2009 in Maharashtra

Congress in Maharashtra has admitted that it is going to be a tough challenge for it to maintain its 2009 tally of 17 Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming general elections.

The party had last time contested 26 out of the 48 Lok Sabha seats in the state.

Out of the 17 won by it, five are from Mumbai and party MPs and office-bearers have asked the leadership that Congress interests in the country’s financial capital have to be safeguarded at any cost.

“There are 70 lakh slum dwellers in Mumbai and the election promise of regularising slums till the year 2000 has to be implemented,” Congress leaders from Mumbai told Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan at a meeting on Saturday.

The party hopes that the commencement of the monorail and the soon-to-be-functional metro will stand it in good stead with the middle class voters in the metropolis.

Sources said the chief minister was told that the criteria of Rs. 60,000 annual income in Mumbai to get benefits of the Food Security Act would not serve the interest of the Congress party.

In the last two days, Chavan, state Congress chief Manikrao Thakre and AICC general secretary in-charge of the state Mohan Prakash held a series of deliberations with party leaders to discuss strategy for the crucial Lok Sabha polls.

“There is some sentiment in favour of AAP and Narendra Modi on the ground and we need to counter that,” party sources said. Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi’s visit to the state is being planned in the first week of March before the election code of conduct comes into force.

“Interactions of Gandhi with hawkers, fishermen, minorities, slum dwellers, women and youth are being planned. This will help us to launch our campaign,” sources added.

At Saturday’s meeting, discussions pertained to evolving a consensus on elective merit of the aspirants in nine Lok Sabha constituencies where the party was defeated in 2009.

Is Modi ready to debate with Kejriwal?

A free man now, Arvind Kejriwal, after he stepped down as Delhi’s chief minister, continued his attack on Gujarat Chief Minister and BJP’s Prime Ministerial Narendra Modi. Kejriwal wants Modi to break his silence on gas pricing. He also wants Modi to specify what is his and his party’s relation with Mukesh Ambani and Adani? The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is continuing its attack on BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. It’s a known fact that Modi’s huge and mega rallies are sponsored by Adani and Ambanis, both these tycoons have played major role in making of Modi a ‘Brand’. Kejriwal said Modi should speak on Mukesh Ambani and gas pricing in Himachal’s rally which he conducted on Sunday. The AAP leader also questioned Gandhi’s support to higher gas price allegedly favouring the Ambanis. The party has been attacking the two leaders over this issue ever since an FIR was registered by AAP led Delhi government against Mukesh Ambani and Union Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily. His party has been making the gas pricing as an issue ahead of 2014 General elections. Would 2014 elections be fought between AAP and Mukesh Ambani, with Rahul and Modi being agents of Mukesh Ambani?

On Kejriwal’s orders, the Delhi government’s anti-corruption bureau had registered an FIR against Union Petroleum Minister M Veerappa Moily, Reliance Industries chief Mukesh Ambani, former Union Minister Murli Deora and retired director general of Hydrocarbons VK Sibal for creating an artificial shortage of natural gas in the country and raising its prices.

A few months back, Modi had challenged Mr. Rahul Gandhi for a debate and Gandhi did not responded to him. Now, is Modi ready to debate with Arvind Kejriwal? Before elections, there should be debate between in these three leaders. Let people know who is capable to head them? Democracy has the Rights to Reject. If Kejriwal can’t bring the bill this time then he could table it in the next session. There are people on streets and slums of Delhi who voted to Kejriwal, believing that he will change their life. Leaving all such crucial priorities aside, he wouldn’t have resigned. There is no doubt that crony capitalism must end and transparency must prevail. But ‘everyone is thief approach’ must be given up otherwise our economy would suffer heavily. On the other hand, his question to Modi is valid, Modi has given a lot of favours to Ambani for his industries in Gujarat and the bond between them is rock solid. So, expecting Modi to break silence on Ambani and Adani would be laughable. He won’t make any statement since it would mean violation of agreement with the Reliance. It’s good that at least Kejriwal is daring to take up the issue and exposing them openly. Now, people of this country have to decide what they want. Whoever comes in power, RIL will be the favourite punching bag for AAP and the party will go to any extent to expose them. Unfortunately, for RIL, they have a product ‘gas” which directly hurts the common man. It is really surprises me that people are avoiding the issue by saying matter is being ‘Subjudice’! Discussing alleged unethical things by the corporate houses is never deemed as contempt of court. At last, someone dares to break the conspiracy of silence. The important issues of the day have been carefully shielded from public debate under the guise of “growth” and “governance.” While Manmohan Singh’s reticence is to blame, the principal opposition’s obstructionist stances have led to the death of issue-based politics.

The Indian public discourse needed a rude shake-up to revive these issues. The four pillars, Executive, Legislature, Judiciary and the Media have slipped into a comfort zone in the sleaze of crony capitalist growth. True transparency will start with disclosures on electoral funds, but will take at least another 10 years. The revolution has barely begun and will need persistent support. Those who have manipulated systems so far will try to do so more virulently. Ambani must proceed to court; many things will come out if court takes serious note of it.

Survey conducted by many organization come to a conclusion that many fake twitter ids were created to favour Modi and dislike others. Many senior politicians of BJP and other parties were abused by these supporters. Who is the brain child behind this, to create fake ids to tweet? How much money has been spent on this project? A probe is needed to establish Modi and Businessmen nexus. After this, court will also ask the government to clarify, who is ruling Gujarat? Modi is touring the nation from last one year, busy in attending mega rallies and meeting people to generate supports in his favour.

Meanwhile, neither Modi nor any other politicians dares to utter a single word against Mukesh Ambani. They know the consequences of speaking against him. No political parties or politicians would like to lose election funds offered by corporate houses. RIL and Adani groups are in collusion with Modi, is further exposed from the CAG report which reveals that they were awarded farmland at throw-away prices. It becomes a trend that now the corporate houses do not put their eggs in one basket but in different baskets so that any political party captures power, they do not get harmed by it. Moreover, Kejriwal believes too much in populist talk. He should focus in constructive moves. That will be good for his political career as well as politics of this country.
