Chaiwallahs like Modi

modi-chaiThe remarks made by Congress leader Mani Shankar Iyer about Narendra Modi that a chai wallah cannot become the Prime Minister of India has turned into a blessing in disguise for Modi. Modi has turned the tide into his favour by inviting tea vendors during election campaigns. By organising these kinds of programmes the saffron party has been able to connect with tea vendors. They also mentioned about the days when Modi used to work as a tea seller at stations and his journey from a tea vendor to the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate. Tea vendors are already impressed by the campaigning programmes held by BJP and look up to Modi as the future prime minister of India. Many of them have already decided to vote for Narendra Modi in the forthcoming Lok Sabha election.

Raju Singh a tea vendor from Kandivali said, “Most of the political parties have sidelined us but Narendra Modi had invited us at the rally as a special guest. It will be my privilege to vote for him.”
Chandresh Patel will vote for Modi and he said, “Tea vendors have come into limelight only due to Narendra Modi. I and many other chai wallahs will definitely vote for him.”

Tea vendors have been easily able to relate with Modi who too had been working as a tea seller during his childhood days. Manoj Upadhyay a tea seller from Malad said, “Narendra Modi is a capable leader and he deserves to become the prime minister of India.”

Ajay Kumar Mandal said a tea vendor from Kandivali said, “I want Narendra Modi to become the prime minister of India. He is a visionary and has worked at the grassroots level.”

Prakash Patel wants a change of governance. He said, “People of India are already fed up with the Congress which is responsible for misgovernance and want change. So Narendra Modi fits the bill.”
Dinesh Patyar is confident that Modi will develop the nation. He said, “The UPA reign has witnessed several scams. We want change and will vote for Narendra Modi who will transform the country.”

Narayan Parki a tea vendor from Kandivali said, “I am proud of Narendra Modi as he too belonged to the same profession like me during childhood. If a tea vendor can become the Chief Minister of Gujarat then will definitely become prime minister of the country.”

Akshay Sukhar lauded Modi’s efforts to transform Gujarat into a developed state. He said, “Narendra Modi has been responsible for the development of Gujarat and in the same way he can take India forward. I am confident that he will perform a good job.”

Brijgopal Sharma a tea vendor from Malad said, “Narendra Modi has changed the perception of people towards tea vendors and bring some dignity towards their profession. I will definitely vote for him as he can make India a developed nation.”

MNS to block all national highways on Wednesday

RAJ-THAKAREYThe commuters in Maharashtra might have a hard time on Wednesday as the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena has announced that it will block all national highways in the state from 9 am.

MNS Chief Raj Thackeray has assured that normal life will not be disrupted due to their protest. “We will not disrupt life in any of the cities in Maharashtra but all the highways will be blocked from 9 am tomorrow (Wednesday). I have told MNS workers not to indulge in vandalism.”

However, even as the MNS chief promised an end to vandalism of toll booths, party workers attacked a toll in Panvel on Tuesday. They had earlier attacked a toll in Uran also.

The party will march from Girgaum chowpatty to Mantralaya on February 21 over the issue. “Government says its open to talks. That is not enough. I want a time bound programme,” he said.

Government to give class 1, 2 jobs to children of 26/11 martyrs

26-11The Maharashtra government has decided to give class 1 and 2 jobs to the children of the martyrs of 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

The decision to this effect was taken recently after Poonam Durgude, daughter of slain sub-inspector Bapurao Durgude, who was killed by the terrorists during the 2008 attacks, requested state Home Minister RR Patil to give her a class 1 or 2 job.
According to a senior official in the Home department, government jobs in class 3 and 4 categories were earlier offered under the compensation scheme to the children of martyrs.

However, when Poonam went with her request, it prompted necessary changes in the earlier government resolution (GR) to pave way for martyrs’ children to get class 1 or class 2 jobs, the official said.

“Poonam, who was given class 3 job, met Home minister R R Patil and requested him to give her class 1 or class 2 job. Considering the backdrop and gravity of the case, Patil took up the matter with Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan and asked him to sensitively think over the issue,” he said.

Recently, the government also offered class 1 job to Bharti Omble, daughter of slain assistant sub-inspector Tukaram Omble, who played a pivotal role in nabbing Ajmal Kasab, the Pakistani militant who was one of the attackers.

The official said the appointment files of Bharti, who has been given job as deputy collector, and Poonam, as sales tax officer, are in the final stage.

“It is the prerogative of the respective departments to clear the file at the earliest. The process is expected to be completed soon,” he said.

“The decision has been taken only for the children of the martyrs in 26/11 terror attacks case. Those who are eligible will definitely get class 1 or class 2 jobs,” he said.

Expressing happiness over the government’s move, Poonam’s sister Neelam said, “It is great news for all of us in the family. We all are very happy. We are expecting the letter in next few days.”

HC issues notice to CBI on PIL in Dahbolkar murder case

Bombay-HCThe Bombay High Court on Tuesday issued notice to the CBI on a PIL urging probe by an independent agency into murder of anti-superstition activist Narendra Dabholkar to find out whether Hindu right-wing activists were involved in the crime.

A division bench headed by Justice PV Hardas also allowed petitioner Ketan Tirodkar to amend his petition to include CBI as a respondent instead of National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Dabholkar, who spearheaded the anti-superstition movement in Maharashtra, was shot dead in Pune on August 20 last year. The police are still clueless about identity of the culprits.

The petitioner today urged that he wanted to amend the PIL to include CBI as a respondent. He said NIA had restricted jurisdiction as it was involved only in cases of terror, while CBI had wider powers as it probed serious crimes.

Tirodkar argued that the High Court had earlier handed over important murder cases to CBI such as the killing of RTI activist Satish Shetty and builder Amit Rane, both from Pune.

Earlier, Pune police had informed the court that there was no evidence suggesting the involvement of right-wing extremists in the killing of Dabholkar. Police also said the deceased was not facing any threat and so there was no question of police preparing a perception report (prior to the murder) and monitoring his activities.

More importantly, the contention that it was handiwork of right-wing extremists was based only on presumptions or petitioner’s own imagination which is not supported by any factual evidence, Rajendra Bhamare, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Pune Crime Branch, had said in an affidavit filed before the court.

On the last occasion, police had handed over to the bench two reports on investigations conducted so far.

Denying that his Pune team was under pressure from any political quarters, ACP Bhamare had opposed transfer of probe to NIA as the offence did not fall in the purview of NIA Act.

NIA too had taken a similar stand when it told the court earlier that it cannot probe Dabholkar’s murder as the offence fell under Indian Penal Code and was not covered by NIA Act.

Police produce CDRs in HC in builder Loharia murder case

Sunil-Kumar-Loharia12In keeping with a judicial order, police on Tuesday produced before the Bombay High Court ‘Call Data Records’ of telephone talks purportedly held between senior police officers and some accused in the murder of Navi Mumbai builder Sunil Loharia.

The records, produced during the hearing of a PIL alleging police-accused nexus, contain purported telephonic talks between Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner AK Sharma and absconding accused Anurag Garg.

Accepting the CDRs, a bench headed by Justice P V Hardas asked the investigating agency to produce ‘case diaries’ in sealed covers by February 25.

The bench also asked police to flag those pages in the case diaries which pertain to investigation of telephonic talks between police officers and the accused.

The court was hearing a petition filed by ex-scribe Ketan Tirodkar, who prayed for transfer of investigations to an independent agency such as CBI as he alleged that the accused were allegedly shielded by police.

Tirodkar alleged that there was evidence with the investigating authorities to show that the Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner and a senior police inspector were in touch with the accused before and after Loharia’s murder in February 2013.

Earlier, the prosecution had informed the court that the statements of police officers were yet to be recorded and that steps were being taken to declare absconding accused as proclaimed offenders and attach their properties, so as to compel them to appear before the trial court.

The petitioner alleged that rival builder Suresh Bijlani and architect Anurag Garg, both accused in the case, were spotted by Loharia’s son in the police station where he had gone to lodge a complaint. Bijlani has since been arrested while Garg is still absconding.

A senior police inspector had also refused to name these two accused in the FIR, Tirodkar alleged. Investigations in this case were earlier being made by Navi Mumbai police but later the probe was given to Mumbai Crime Branch.

The petitioner said Loharia was shot dead outside his Navi Mumbai office on February 16 last year. On the next day, he claimed, there were five telephonic conversations between the Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner and accused Suresh Bijlani and Anurag Garg, lasting from 80 seconds to 100 seconds on cell phone.

Tirodkar said police had recorded such talks and were aware about this. Two days after Loharia’s murder, the police chief issued a look out notice against Bijlani and Garg, although the duo were very much accessible to him, going by the telephone records police have collected during the probe, he alleged.

Tirodkar contended that no efforts were being made to conduct a sincere probe as senior police officials were allegedly involved.

On the contrary, he alleged, efforts were being made to shield the guilty. Hence, he was demanding a CBI probe into Loharia’s murder.

The petitioner said Loharia had himself filed a petition in the High Court alleging 600 illegal constructions in Navi Mumbai, including the 21 towers being built illegally on the Palm Beach Road.

Loharia had also urged the court that his petition be heard expeditiously as his life was in danger. Four days after that he was killed, Tirodkar said and produced a letter written by the victim in this regard to the court registrar.

Tirodkar further alleged that Loharia’s son had also received a threat on phone warning him against lodging a police complaint.

The petitioner also alleged that political pressure had been put on deceased Loharia by a Maharashtra Cabinet Minister asking him not to take up the issue of illegal construction.

Judge pulls up Navi Mumbai cop for delaying court proceedings

A judge hearing a multi-crore land scam case of Navi Mumbai has rapped a senior police official for delaying the court proceedings.

Thane Special Judge M C Khadke was annoyed with Navi Mumbai ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police Bharat Shelke, the investigating officer in the case, as he could not give a satisfactory reply on why he was delaying giving the department’s say on a bunch of bail applications filed by the accused in the case.

While the bail pleas of some of the accused were being heard by the judge, the court called for the official at around 4 PM. The Dy.SP delayed coming to the court and after that the judge took up some other matter and resumed with this case around 5.30 PM. The say was not ready then.

At around 6 PM, when the police reply did not come, the judge ordered that ACB Superintendent of Police Sandeep Karnik should be presented in the court within five minutes.

Upon this, the Dy.SP made frantic attempts to reach his senior. When Shelke told the court that the SP was not reachable, the court asked him, “Don’t you have his residence number? Does he not have a landline number?”

“Make use of ‘Whatsapp’, you can reach him fast and instantly. Where does he stay? Call him immediately. You are wasting the time of my staff, those present here, the time of the public prosecutor. You can call him from here and ask him to come to the court immediately,” the judge told Shelke.

Upon this, the Dy.SP put through the call and informed the court that it would take at least half-an-hour for the SP to come to the court.

“Do you want me to wait up to 8 PM for your sake?” the judge asked. Later when the Dy.SP gave the say, the judge said that “for just this remark you made us wait so long?”

The judge then said that he was ready to wait for the SP to come and also asked the Dy.SP and the prosecutor to be present in the court.

NCP demands stoppage of toll collection on two-lane highways

Bhaskar-JadhavEven as the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) prepared to organise a road blockade agitation to protest against toll collection, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) demanded here on Tuesday that toll collection be completely stopped on two-lane highways and bridges.

In a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan, State NCP president Bhaskar Jadhav said that more and more two-lane highways and bridges are the need of the hour for better connectivity in rural areas.

“Levying toll at such places will burden the rural population and it should be completely stopped,” Jadhav demanded, urging the people not to support Raj Thackeray’s road blockade agitation.

“Youth should refrain from falling into the MNS trap of violence and damage to public property. If the MNS has issues with toll contractors and owners about the number of VIP vehicles, party leaders should discuss with them and not hold the state to ransom,” he said.

Government appoints vigilance committees for foodgrain distribution

The Maharashtra government has appointed vigilance committees to keep a close watch on unloading and distribution of foodgrains for the smooth implementation of Food Security Act in the state which was launched on February 1.

“We have appointed vigilance committees to keep a close watch on unloading and distribution of foodgrains. We have also asked tehsildars and sub-divisional officers to undertake regular monthly inspections and hold meetings in this regard,” Food and Civil Supplies department secretary Deepak Kapoor said.

Till now the vigilance committee was only on papers. But henceforth, for the prevention of black-marketing and malpractice during the implementation of the scheme, these committees will play a vital role in distribution of foodgrains to the beneficiaries, he said.

“The next important step which we have taken is, if a ration-card owner is caught in any fraudulent activities, then he will be penalised under sections 3 and 7 of the Essential Commodities Act,” he said. If the vigilance committee, which will comprise of police patils, sarpanch, educated women and youth, is found to be involved in dereliction of duties, then the tehsildars have been ordered to complain about it to the district collectors, he said.

The state would require 44 lakh metric tonnes of foodgrain every year, which would cost around Rs. 10,000-11,000 crore to the government, he said.

“There are seven crore beneficiaries in the state among various categories like below poverty line (BPL) and Antyodaya,” Kapoor said.

The state government would build another 6,000 ration shops for better implementation of the scheme.

“At present, we have 52,400 rationing shops. We have already allotted 300 shops,” the official said.

The state government has also undertaken the programme to build 235 godowns in the state, he said, adding that so far 32 godowns have been built and by this yearend another 143 would be built. The remaining ones would be built next year.

Meghna and Tanisha’s valentine gift to Modi and Rahul, respectively?

I don’t know what to say to these mediawalas. Suddenly, they got two small time models Meghna Patel and Tanisha Singh in headlines for posing nude with just a poster of Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi! None of the media asked them who had sponsored their photo-shoots, as they seemed not well to do models. Who inspired or suggested them to do these naked shoots to campaign for Modi and Rahul? What were their sole intentions behind this drama? Bizarre as it sounds, model Meghna Patel who was last seen in the show ‘Kahaani Chandrakanta Ki’ apparently did an extremely risqué photo shoot. While shedding all her embarrassments for the camera, Meghna is seen holding just a big poster that reads ‘Vote for Modi’ to hide her assets. The pictures that have gone viral on the internet did not meet with positive response from the BJP. If this campaign or stunt was brainchild of BJP’s promotion cell, then they might have not over reacted on it or they might have kept quiet. BJP knows, every publicity is good publicity at this moment. The news report says that the BJP members are not happy with this development and are dismissing this as a publicity stunt by the starlet. However, this isn’t the first time that the glamour world has tried to attach itself with BJP’s Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Recently, actor Salman Khan made headlines after he called Modi a “good man” during a kite flying festival in Ahmedabad where the actor was promoting his film ‘Jai Ho’. Bollywood hottie Mallika Sherawat had in the past come in the limelight for crooning ‘happy birthday’ to Narendra Modi.

VHP, Sangh Parivar, BJP and all other group of workers who oppose many things in the name of morality and culture are also quite on this issue. They are in a mood to accept anything for Modi. Why aren’t they breaking public property and beating up these actresses for posing nude with their PM candidate posters? Why are they quiet now? Even Shiv Sena has not commented yet. Why this C grade model has done is not opposed by anyone. Who wanted to make Meghna famous and what are their plans for her in future? Why this type of campaign and what was the intention? They both might be attention seekers as they have nothing to do in this industry at the moment. This is neither BJP nor RSS or Congress culture. BJP, Congress culture is to loot India while appearing to be respectable.

Recently, the Supreme Court has ruled in a verdict that also upholds the Right to Freedom of Speech and Expression. In a ruling SC said, “A picture of a nude or semi-nude woman published in newspapers or magazines cannot be called obscene unless it has the tendency to arouse “sexual passion””. The picture should be suggestive of (depraved) mind and designed to excite sexual passion. So no legal action can be taken against Meghna and Tanisha unless their pictures provoke anyone. Even these models are not that glamourous that they can really be even able to convey their message. BJP alliances with B-town are on strategy to earn more votes? Well, these are a few questions that are expected to arise after you take a look at the photos of model Meghna Patel, posing nude with Modi poster. Not too long ago, actors Mallika Sherawat and Salman Khan also made headlines for supporting Modi. While the former had crooned ‘Happy Birthday’, the ‘Dabangg’ Khan hailed ‘good man’ Modi when he visited Ahmedabad to promote his film ‘Jai Ho’. Will the filmy support work in Modi’s favour?

Anyways, Modi was called a “publicity stunt expert” by Sharad Pawar who accused him of misguiding people. “If corporate houses had not given so much financial support to Modi would he have managed to get so much publicity?” Gowda said. There are many political leaders who believe Modi is an air created by gimmicks and publicity stunts. A Washington-based firm, Apco Worldwide, was hired by Modi sometime in August this year last year, in the run-up to an important Assembly election, to improve his image before the world community. The firm has a distinction of taking contracts of boosting images of leaders who fell out of favour of their followers. On the face of it, Apco Worldwide’s brief is to build and sell Brand Gujarat to the international community. But according to sources Modi, who was denied visa by the US earlier because of the taint he earned in the 2002 riots, wants his image to be improved so that he gets to visit the US in future.

Modi regime feels lobbying is required to attract much-sought foreign direct investment (FDI) which has been a cause of concern even though Gujarat is topping the charts among Indian states in terms of overall investments, according to latest statistics brought out by the Reserve Bank of India. The Gujarat government pays Apco 25,000 USD per month for the Modi image building exercise. Modi thought of this image-building exercise during his visit to Switzerland earlier. His government shortlisted some seven national and international firms, without floating tenders of which two were shortlisted. Even though it quoted a sum that was three times more than others, Apco was picked for the job. The reason given was that Apco has a better team. Apco has former senators from Republican and Democratic parties working with it. Just for the sake of power Modi can do anything.

They talk about dynasty and democracy but never follow what they preach. BRAND images are created for personal gains. Modi’s PR machine never sleeps, but in election time, goes into overdrive. Let it be Meghna or his paid internet bunch, everyone is assigned and engaged to get Modi on biggest post of this country. Post election results will tell, whether all these things favoured Modi or not.
