Most Common Cosmetic Beauty Myths Busted

Cosmetic-BeautyMyth: Once you have undergone cosmetic treatments or surgery, you never have to bother about that part of your body again.

Fact: Cosmetic treatments done with the help of minimally invasive surgeries like fillers need to be touched up every six months to a year, and in some cases, once in two years depending upon the product used.

Plastic surgery too has to be revised and maintained once the whole face sags with age over a period of time.

Myth: Cosmetic treatments are painful.

Fact: If you are getting a surgery done, you will be given anaesthesia. However, procedures like Restylane fillers are lunch-time procedures that take about half an hour with very little or no discomfort during the procedure. You might experience mild swelling and redness for a day or two though.

Myth: Cosmetic surgery gone wrong could be fatal.

Fact: Some procedures can lead to eyelid droop, lip droop, uneven eyebrows, chewing difficulty et al, if not done by an expert. But the good news is that these are completely reversible within a span of a few months leaving no permanent difficulty. And no, cosmetic treatments are not fatal. More importantly, if something goes wrong, it is not because of the effects of the product per se, but because you may have got it done from an untrained professional. Hence, it is very important to visit an expert doctor to get any procedure done. You’ll be just fine in the hands of a well-trained expert.

Myth: Liposuction helps you lose weight.

Fact: Liposuction does not help in losing weight; it only takes out the undesired collected fat from the different target areas of the body. You need to watch your diet and resort to exercise in order to lose weight.

Myth: Cosmetic treatments and plastic surgery are pretty much the same thing.

Fact: Plastic surgery usually deals with repairing or reconstructing a part of the face or body. For example, in victims of accidents or burns, plastic surgery helps reconstruct the body part and repair what has been damaged. Cosmetic surgery, however, refers to going under the knife for cosmetic enhancement to improve your appearance.

In case of surgeries, a patient is given a general anaesthesia and must remain admitted in the hospital for a certain period of time under observation. On the other hand, cosmetic treatments are short, minimally invasive procedures where no general anaesthesia is required and the patient can resume their work immediately after the procedure.

Myth: Cosmetic treatments are extremely expensive.

Fact: The cost of cosmetic treatment or surgery depends on the procedure opted for. Sure, procedures like liposuction, permanent lip augmentation, nose jobs et al may be expensive. However, today a number of procedures are available that even a moderate spender can avail of. For example, the procedure of dermal fillers starts at Rs.12,000.

Myth: Cosmetic treatments can result in scars.

Fact: There is no scarring that result from minimally invasive procedures.

Myth: Facelifts are permanent.

Fact: Nothing is permanent as the face is constantly ageing. So, products like fillers have to be replaced after a year or two, depending upon the quality used.

Myth: Once you undergo a cosmetic procedure, you must keep on repeating it or your face will look worse than it did before.

Fact: Even if you don’t repeat a cosmetic procedure, it’s okay, as your face will age at its own pace and the procedure will not lead to early ageing. In fact, it will stop the ageing process for a limited period of time.

Arvind Kejriwal targets Mukesh Ambani, Moily, Deora over gas deal, orders FIR

Arvind-KejriwalDelhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday announced that FIRs are being filed against Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily, former minister Murli Deora, Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani and others over the issue of pricing of gas from KG Basin.

Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal said four people had complained to the Delhi government against Reliance Industries, following which the Anti-Corruption Branch has been directed to lodge FIRs and initiate a probe.

“I’ve received complaints. The Reliance Industries manipulated gas pricing with some ministers,” Kejriwal said.

The price of natural gas was raised to USD 4/unit and Reliance followed it up by producing less gas due to which India had to import gas, leading to inflation, Kejriwal said.

“Now plans are to raise the gas price to USD 8/unit. If the price is raised from April 01, there will be a hike in prices of essential commodities as well,” he said.

He also demanded that the Central government should take the gas wells back and give it to state-run ONGC.

“The ACB is is in the process of filing FIRs against Murli Deora, Veerappa Moily, Mukesh Ambani,” he said.

Kejriwal added that he would take the matter up with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and demand that the hike in price of natural gas from April 01 be kept in abeyance.

The Congress said that it was not against a probe. “We want each and every act of people in power to be probed,” Ajay Maken, party spokesperson, said.

Petroleum Minister Veerappa Moily also responded. “We should sympathise with his ignorance. He doesn’t know how the government runs, norms are followed. There is a system in fixing prices,” Moily told a news channel.

Delhi Congress leader Haroon Yusuf slammed Kejriwal, he said, “If there is rape charge against AAP MLA’s relative no action will be taken as being related to AAP he would be ‘honest’. They(AAP) want to register an FIR on everyone in the country except for AAP members.”

Experts too have pointed out that the issue of gas pricing is a matter between the Centre and Reliance Industries and the Delhi government has no jurisdiction over the matter.

“If AAP has concrete proof then must present it, otherwise such false allegations can affect investment,” said Narendra Taneja, petroleum expert.

Others felt that Kejirwal is raking up the issue as the first step in his progression from Delhi to the national scene ahead of the General Elections, due in a few months.

It is not the first time that AAP is coming up with what they claim are explosive revelations. In 2012, Kejriwal held a series of press conferences to level serious charges of corruption against Salman Khurshid, Nitin Gadkari and Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries.

AAP had accused the government of collusion with Reliance and alleged that Reliance deliberately keeps gas production low to blackmail the government.

Last week, Kejriwal had attacked Anil Ambani over the electricity standoff in the capital.

“Anil Ambani playing politics wid delhi’s electricity? Whose politics is he doing?(sic),” Kejriwal said in the tweet.

Congress expels six Andhra MPs for opposing creation of Telangana

The Congress on Tuesday expelled its six MPs for opposing formation of Telangana and issuing a notice of no-confidence motion against the government in Parliament.

The Parliamentarians from Andhra who were expelled are S Hari, GV Harsha Kumar, V Arun Kumar, L Rajagopal, R Sambasiva Rao and A Sai Pratap.

“Congress president Sonia Gandhi has approved the decision of the disciplinary committee of the AICC to expel the six MPs from Andhra Pradesh with immediate effect,” said AICC general secretary Janardan Dwivedi.

In December last, the above mentioned six Congress MPs from Seemandhra region had given a notice for moving no-confidence motion against the Manmohan Singh government.

Contrary to earlier expectations, the Telangana bill will now be introduced in Lok Sabha first instead of Rajya Sabha with the government seeking a fresh recommendation from the President after the Upper House secretariat held it is a money bill.

Sources said the move comes after questions were raised over the constitutionality of introducing the bill first in the Upper House.

Home Ministry officials said the plan to table the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill in Rajya Sabha has been reviewed and a fresh recommendation of President Pranab Mukherjee has been sought for the legislation’s introduction in Lok Sabha.

“It will be introduced in Lok Sabha first for which President’s recommendation is being sought,” a senior Home Ministry official said.

The President gave his nod for bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh by approving the legislation.

Those who will not vote for Narendra Modi would be traitors: Rambir Shokeen

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi lost majority in the Assembly after Independent MLA Rambeer Shokeen withdrew support on Tuesday.

MLA from Mundka, Shokeen, met Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today to formally withdraw his support to the Arvind Kejriwal government.

Later while speaking to reporters, Shokeen praised BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

“Jo Modi ji ko vote nahi dega vo desh ka gaddaar hoga (Those who will not vote for Modi would be traitors),” Shaukeen said.

Shokeen, who calls himself a social ,activist, was reportedly denied a ticket by the BJP which resulted in him contesting as an independent.

After Delhi threw up a hung assembly, he declared that he won’t support the BJP unless he’s requested by no one less than the party’s PM candidate Narendra Modi.

He had also reportedly said that he will join the BJP only if Modi offers him the post of Deputy CM.

Yesterday, Shokeen had said that he was withdrawing support to the AAP government as the Chief Minister has not fulfilled the promises he made to the people of Delhi during the polls.

“We had given support to the AAP based on the issue of removing unnecessary restrictions on villages, extension of ‘Lal dora’ boundaries and also on the water issue, but they have failed on these fronts. Last when, I, Binny and JD(U) MLA Shoaib Iqbal met Kejriwal on February 4, he assured us of starting work on these issues within a week but nothing has been done so far. I had also called up Kejriwal ji but he didn’t respond or call me back. So I have decided to withdraw my support,” Shokeen said.

The AAP government’s strength in the 70-member Assembly has now dropped to 35, one short of majority. The AAP has 27 MLAs of its own; the Congress with 8 MLAs and JD(U) MLA Shoiab Iqbal are supporting it from outside.

However, the AAP government appears to be safe for now as the Congress appears to be in no hurry to pull the plug, just yet.

A report said the party does not want Kejriwal to project himself as a martyr and gain political mileage in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

The BJP too is not keen to bring a no-confidence motion against the AAP government.

“BJP will not allow Arvind Kejriwal to resign and run away. We are committed to fight corruption and support Jan Lokpal. Send a copy to us,” BJP’s face in Delhi, Harsh Vardhan, said.

The Congress, which is supporting it from outside, has declared that it will not support the “unconstitutional” move to pass the Jan Lokpal Bill without the Centre’s nod.

But Kejriwal is defiant and has threatened to quit if the Jan Lokpal Bill and Swaraj Bill are not passed by the Delhi Assembly.

Kejriwal later said, “I am not trying to be toppled, that impression is wrong. I am doing my work. We are working day and night… very hard.”

Ishrat Jahan was part of terror plot: Ex-IB official Rajinder Kumar

Named by the CBI in the Ishrat Jahan “fake” encounter case, former special director of the Intelligence Bureau, Rajinder Kumar, has rubbished the allegations and reiterated his charge that Ishrat and her accomplices were part of a terror module.

Kumar claimed that he is innocent and that the case won’t stand in court. Speaking to a news channel, Kumar stressed that no criminality was involved in the 2004 operation in Gujarat that ended with the death of Ishrat, her friend Javed Sheikh alias Parnesh Pillai in Gujarat and two others believed to be Pakistani nationals. The entire incident was projected as an encounter by the Gujarat police.

The CBI had filed a chargesheet in the special court in Ahmedabad, last week, against Kumar, a 1979-batch IPS officer, and P Mittal, MK Sinha and Rajiv Wankhede. Kumar has been charged with criminal conspiracy and murder while the other three were slapped with charges of criminal conspiracy, wrongful confinement, kidnapping and wrongful concealment of facts.

Kumar was also slapped with additional charges under the Arms Act for allegedly providing arms and ammunition used in the case on June 15, 2004.

Defending the operation, Kumar said, “We are not vultures; we don’t target innocent people,” adding that the CBI had little clue about how counter-terrorism works.

“I performed my duty,” he said.

The CBI is set to approach the government seeking sanction for prosecution against Kumar and the other three Intelligence Bureau officials after Attorney General GE Vahanvati suggested that CBI needed a prior nod before prosecuting Intelligence Bureau officers in the case.

Nido Taniam’s parents meet Rahul Gandhi; one more arrested

Parents of Nido Taniam on Tuesday met Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi here, a day after the city police informed the Delhi High Court that the 19-year-old Arunachal Pradesh student died because of “serious” internal injuries in the head.

Meanwhile, one more person has been arrested in Taniam’s killing case. Police have told the Delhi court that murder charges have been slapped against four accused.

Taniam’s parents met Gandhi at his Tughlak Road residence here this morning and alleged police negligence in the case and demanded stringent action against the policemen.

They also demanded steps be taken to curb discrimination against the people from northeastern states.

“We have apprised Rahulji about our feelings. First of all we have requested him to punish the people who are involved in killing my son. Number one is Delhi Police and secondly those culprits,” said Tania’a father Nido Pavitra.

“We met Rahul Gandhi and have made it clear that if initiatives are not taken by the government to curb discrimination against the North East people, then things are not going to change,” Tania’s mother told the media.

“I appeal to all businessmen that they should come forward to help the government in putting up hoardings and posters in public places against discrimination,” she added.

Rahul had earlier promised strict action over the death of Taniam.

Gandhi had promised to write to Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on the issue.

3 men kidnap 16-year-old married girl, gangrape her for 3 days

A 16-year-old married girl was allegedly kept hostage and gangraped by three men for three days in Alwar district, police said.
An FIR was lodged by the victim and her maternal uncle on Sunday against the accused–Surendra Meena, Ashok Meena and Mausam Meena– under IPC Section 363 for abduction, 376-D for gangrape and under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, officials of Baswa police station in Dausa district said on telephone.
All the accused are in the age group of 20-21, they said.
On February 4, the girl, a victim of child marriage, was standing alone at a bus station in Baswa to go to her parents’ place when the accused, known to her, offered her lift in their car.
However, they instead took her to a house in Alwar district, where she was kept hostage for three days and gangraped by them, they said.
On February 7, the victim was dropped at Malakhera village in Alwar district by the accused, who warned her against disclosing the incident to anyone, they said.
The girl somehow contacted her maternal uncle and the two reached her in-laws’ house. They then lodged the FIR. The location of the accused has been traced and they will be arrested till morning, they said. The victim has been sent to hospital for medical examination, they added.

Fake KBC caller on the prowl, another man duped of Rs 15,000

Manjeet Singh of Sisaiya village, Sitarganj is the latest victim to what seems to be operating as a full-fledged ‘fake KBC lottery’ racket in the country. He was duped of Rs. 15,150 by a caller who claimed he was calling from popular show Kaun Banega Crorepati and that Manjeet had won Rs 25 lakh lottery.
However, the caller who was calling from an international number, laid down certain conditions fulfilling which Manjeet would get the amount.
Shockingly, he asked Manjeet to deposit Rs 15, 150 in a bank account if he wanted to get the lottery money. The caller told him he would get a call 10 minutes after he had deposited the money. Then, he would have to switch off his phone for 24 hours.
According to the Jagran report, when Manjeet tried to find out the details of account, he discovered it belonged to Keri Mahinder, not KBC. In spite of enough evidence that these fake calls could actually be a huge racket to rob people of money, police has not sprung into action yet.
The Sitarganj incident has come to light almost a week after another woman of Mandaur in MP was duped of a whopping Rs. 5 lakh though similar fake KBC calls.
Two similar incidents in almost a week’s time suggests there could be a bigger racket operating behind to rob people of money through such fake calls.

Why is the UPA government in a hurry?

With the Lok Sabha election just round the corner the UPA government is leaving no stone unturned to woo voters. The government which has been criticised for its slow paced decision making has been in a hurry to pass several bills. Within a short span of time, the government has passed the Food Security Bill, Land Acquisition Bill, Companies Bill, the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority Bill, National Highways Authority of India (Amendment) Bill, 2012, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Amendment) Bill, 2013 and The Wakf (Amendment) Bill, 2011.

The government which was initially reluctant to pass the Lok Pal bill has finally passed it. Ever since the Aam Aadmi Party entered in to politics the government has been feeling the heat to act against corruption which has become a major issue. In an attempt to show that it was keen to fight corruption the government passed the Lokpal bill.

Later, Rahul Gandhi mentioned about the need to pass many other bills like the public procurement bill, the prevention of corruption act (amendment) bill, the prevention of bribery of foreign public officials and officials of public international organisations bill, the judicial standards and accountability bill, the right of citizens to time-bound delivery of goods and services and redressal of their grievances bill and the whistleblowers protection bill to strengthen Lokpal bill. He had criticised the opposition party BJP for failing to cooperate with the ruling party to pass important legislations. The Congress party then took the credit of passing the bill. But according to political analysts it’s a question of too little too late. They said that the party was only trying to get into a damage control mode after the drubbing received by it in the assembly elections held in Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattisgarh.

The government has received flak for its inability to curb inflation. Food inflation was becoming a major cause of concern. Later Rahul Gandhi had spoken about the need to provide vegetables to the common man at cheap rates. He emphasised on the need to eliminate the middlemen and allow farmers to directly sell the produce to customers. However, the state government was unable to implement this policy as it was opposed by the traders. This time women voters too distanced themselves from the Congress party as it had cut the subsidy on cylinders. Later, Rahul Gandhi in a public meeting appealed to the PM Manmohan Singh that he wants the cap of subsidised cylinders be raised from 9 to 12 per year. Later, petroleum minister Veerappa Moily made an announcement about the raise in subsidised cylinders.

The government also announced that Aadhar card won’t be mandatory for availing the subsidy and the scheme needs to be reviewed. This decision was taken by the government to woo the women voters who have distanced themselves from the party after a cap was imposed on subsidised cylinders in September 2012.
The inaction on the part of the government has resulted into a slump in the growth rate of the Indian economy. Even the rating agencies had downgraded the India’s growth prospects. A negative sentiment is prevailing in the market about how India will attain a respectable GDP growth rate for boosting the economy.

The Congress party has started airing advertisements in television and print media about the various schemes to be launched by it. Why the govt is wasting huge money of the tax payers by airing these advertisements? Why is the government in a hurry to announce several schemes when the Lok Sabha election is just round the corner? What was it doing all these years when the growth rate was declining due to policy paralysis?
