Not necessary whatever I do will be great, says Pankaj Tripathi

pankaj tripathi, bunty aur bubli 2, pankaj, actor pankajActor Pankaj Tripathi is arguably in the best phase of his career: he is not only swamped with work but continues to garner applause for his every outing, regardless of the format.

But the actor, a scene-stealer in any film or web series he does, is a little concerned about “disappointing” his fans if his work is not up to the mark, someday.

“I remember 10 days ago I met a group of people at the airport who were from the South and Bengal and they said when they see a shot of mine in a trailer, they feel they want to see the film as I will do something for sure. “There is a sense of responsibility too (and also) that the day I mess up a little, people might be disappointed. I am also a human being. I do feel a little worried sometimes. It is not necessary that whatever I do will be great. It might be average but then people say that my average will be fine too,” Tripathi told PTI in an interview.

The 45-year-old actor said he tries to concentrate on doing his job and believes in giving his 100 per cent to every role. “I try to maintain a balance of entertainment and sensitivity; I make sure the purpose is not missed.” After years of struggle, Tripathi has been working round-the-clock and said he wishes to slow down a bit after honouring his prior commitments.

”This has not happened overnight; it has taken a lot of time to be here. I am 45-years-old today and at this age, the success won’t get to my head because you know and understand life. So, my perspective is a little different.

“I feel I need to slow down now and I will, after finishing my prior commitments. I have pre-COVID-19 commitments which will take six months or so. I will after that (slow down) a little bit because I need (to look at) physical health,” he added.

With fewer breaks in between Tripathi visits his family in Bihar’s Gopalganj district less often now. But the actor, a graduate from the National School of Drama (NSD), shared that during his time at home around 600 people queue up to take selfies and he happily obliges them.

“They all love me and come this far to my house to see me and I don’t want to upset them. Although, I do get a bit tired, smiling all the time but I don’t get irritated soon,” he said.

Back in Mumbai at his sea-facing apartment in Madh Island, Tripathi prefers to stay away from the limelight and finds peace in being close to nature.

“When I am at home, the phone is off. Today, I am not worried about missing a phone call, earlier I was. For three years or so the phone is on silent mode as I have prior commitments so I want to finish that first. “Besides, I also read books of contemporary Hindi writers like Satya Vyas, Nilotpal Mrinal and others and some who write on nature, environment and farming. I also read political columns in the newspaper,” he said.

Currently, he is busy promoting his next film “Bunty Aur Babli 2”, backed by Yash Raj Films. The film is a sequel to the 2005 Shaad Ali-directed blockbuster, which featured Rani Mukerji and Abhishek Bachchan as the titular characters.

While Mukerji is returning as the original Babli, the sequel stars Saif Ali Khan who steps in for Bachchan’s Bunty, with Siddhant Chaturvedi and debutante Sharvari who are the new age con-couple, also called Bunty and Babli, respectively.

Recalling watching “Bunty Aur Babli” in a Patna theatre upon its release 16 years ago, Tripathi said he thoroughly enjoyed the original, which he said had a beautiful storyline and music.

In “Bunty Aur Babli 2”, the actor will be seen as Jatayu Singh, a shrewd cop, who pits the two pairs of con artists Bunty and Babli against each other.

“In the film, the new Bunty Aur Babli are tech-savvy. The old con couple had an old-world set-up. In this new digital age, to earn quick money some people, unfortunately, get trapped. It is the right time to come up with a film like this,” he said.

Like any other common man, Tripathi said he too was conned years ago over car insurance after a man, who claimed to be an agent took money from him. It was a few months later that the actor learnt it was a fraud, he added.

“When I contacted the company to check on the policy, they denied having it. After this, I made sure to make only a cheque payment. It was a small amount of Rs 2,000 to Rs 5,000 but the incident made me aware,” he said.

The movie, directed by Varun V Sharma, is set to be released in theatres worldwide on November 19. Tripathi will next be seen in Kabir Khan’s much-anticipated cricket drama “83”. He is also working in films like “Bachchan Pandey”, “Oh My God! 2” and will reprise his role as lawyer Madhav Mishra in the Hotstar web series “Criminal Justice”.

Don’t change your expectations from me: Pak’s Hasan Ali pens heartfelt note

hasan ali, hassan ali, pakistan bowler, pakistan, t20 world cup

Pakistan bowler Hasan Ali on Friday issued a statement for the first time since the Men in Green’s semi-final defeat in the T20 World Cup 2021 against Australia. Hasan Ali was one of the main talking points in Pakistan’s five-wicket defeat against the Aussies.

In the penultimate over of the match which later turned out to be the final over, Ali dropped the catch of Australia batter Matthew Wade, who then smashed three sixes in three balls to win the match for his team.

Ali took to Twitter and wrote: “I know you all are upset because my performance didn’t meet your expectations from me but not more disappointed than me. Don’t change your expectations from me. I want to serve Pakistan cricket at the highest level possible, so back to hard work. This patch will make me stronger so Alhumudilah. Thank you for all the messages.”

In the second semi-final, when David Warner and Maxwell fell in successive overs from Shadab Khan, the chase of 177 seemed a distanced dream but Stoinis and Wade had other ideas as they put on 81 in 7.4 overs.

Stoinis started the comeback as he went after Rauf, but it was Wade who did the most damage with three consecutive sixes off Shaheen Shah Afridi. Australia will now play New Zealand in the final of the T20 World Cup on Sunday.

Top Maoist leader Milind Teltumbde, 26 others killed in a 9-hour encounter

milind teltumbde, teltumbde, maoist, naxal, Maoist, Gadchiroli, Maharashtra Police, C-20 Commandos, AK-47, Naxal attack, moaist leaderTop Maoist leader Milind Teltumbde was among the 26 Naxals killed in an encounter with police in Maharashtra’s Gadchiroli district, a senior police official said on Sunday.

The gunbattle took place on Saturday at Korchi in the Mardintola forest area of the district, located over 900 km from Mumbai, when a C-60 police commando team was conducting a search operation, police earlier said.

The C-60 commandos, an elite wing of the police, had recovered bodies of 26 Naxals during a search after the encounter and Teltumbde, one of the wanted accused in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case, was suspected to be among the dead.

“Teltumbde was among the 26 dead Naxals,” a senior state police official confirmed on Sunday.

The police also recovered 29 firearms from the spot, including nine 12 bore weapons, nine SLRs (self-loading rifles) and five AK-47 guns, another police official said.

The dead rebels included 20 males and six females.

A male and a female bodyguard of Teltumbde were also among those killed in the encounter, police said.

Milind Teltumbde, the brother of activist and scholar Anand Teltumbde, was carrying a reward of Rs 50 lakh on his head for his alleged involvement in violent activities against the state.

Anand Teltumbde had been arrested earlier in the Elgar Parishad-Maoist links case and is currently lodged at the Taloja prison in neighbouring Navi Mumbai. As per a charge sheet filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in the Elgar Parishad case, Milind Teltumbde was named as the ‘dreaded Maoist’, a top operative of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist), and declared as absconding.

He was allegedly involved in the Naxal movement since 1996 and was on the radar of central and state security agencies for the last few years in the wake of his activities.

A witness of the NIA in the Elgar Parishad case in a statement claimed that Milind Teltumbde had lived in Dhammadeep Nagar at Ita Bhatti Chowk in Maharashtra’s Nagpur district.

The witness had claimed that Milind Teltumbde bought a property worth Rs 7 lakh under the name of an associate and stayed there between January 2017 and April 2018. According to the NIA, Milind Teltumbde used several alias names like ‘Anil’, ‘Deepak’, ‘Sahyadri’ and ‘Comrade M’ while on the run.

On Saturday, four police personnel were also seriously injured in the action against Naxals in Gadchiroli, which lies on the border of Chhattisgarh, and were taken to Nagpur by helicopter for treatment.

Anonymity makes social media platforms open to abuse

anonymous, virat kohli, anonymity, internet, social media, abusing on social media, misuse of social mediaOne fake profile that sent threats to Virat Kohli’s daughter got caught by Mumbai police. But this is not the first incident where anonymous profiles threaten someone. A female journalist asked males that were making malicious and misogynistic sexual comments on her feeds why they felt the need to. While anonymity may allow people to express themselves without consequences, it also creates a false sense of security.

Anonymity allows people to express themselves without admonishment. Different social media tools take different stances on the importance of anonymity. Facebook requires users to use their real name (although they don’t have a great way of monitoring this), whereas Tumblr allows its users to be as anonymous or as transparent as they want.

Anonymity might have various explanations; many people believe that it enables people to freely speak their minds without fear of repercussion; others use it as a platform for libel and hate speech and those opinions clash. Anything less than a name you regularly use (“real” in the sense that this is the name you go by. Not always a legal name, but the name you’re known by,) is an instant sign of cowardice and/or immaturity. Anonymity is a term that gets thrown around quite often in the microblogging world and has many legitimate perspectives.

There are lots of ways to remove anonymity and find out who someone is. But one thing is certain that anonymity breeds freedom. It’s like freedom of speech: you can say what you want openly without fear of consequence, which leads to more freedom for individuals who share your outlooks on anonymity worldwide. Abuse is everywhere, but this isn’t about abuse. This is about user rights. Anonymity allows for people to be more open with their opinions – both positive and negative – without fear of repercussion, which can allow for massive change in a short period of time.

For example, the anonymity on the Internet has allowed people to express themselves in a way that was never possible before due to fear of repercussions from governments and corporations alike. The Internet has allowed the people to become their own government – they’re their own government now. Teachers are liberated from the oppression of students who wish to bully them.

All of these things, and more, have been made possible by anonymity – through Internet forums, chatrooms, Facebook pages, etc. It’s an amazing tool that has allowed many parts of the world to take a deep breath for the first time ever. It truly inspired me to want to not just erase anonymity on the Internet for one set of people but everybody – even those people who have used it for less than noble purposes.

At the same time, there are some perverts, sadists and extremely cruel people with destructive mindsets on social media, they find someone or the other to take out their anger and nastiness, their frustration speaks for themselves. In all cases, the abuse gets more intense resorting to the threats of murder or rape. By using threatening or abusive language the intent was to shock women away from their perceived territory.

We all have personas, to one extent or another. These are the various caricatures we use in various situations: the persona you use with immediate family, the persona you use at work, the persona you use when dealing with vendors, the persona you use when in a particular social media forum. Some people even have different personas for different topics on social media!

The only pro to being anonymous is that people will not know your identity. It is good that nobody should be forced to prove who they are online, just to say something. In some cases, that could be dangerous, even fatal, and in many more just embarrassing. It’s a sliding scale – there is a long history of whistle-blowers suffering retribution, or outspoken members of communities suffering shunning for breaking ranks, even when doing the right thing. However, some are emboldened by anonymity to become abusive because they know there will be no retribution, and of course, criminals would much rather you didn’t know who they are.

One should know that there is a thin line between privacy and anonymity. But both can be of use at some point, anonymity can be important mostly to express opinions or thoughts that can put your life at risk, this is like reporting to police about a crime to be investigated without revealing who said it to protect you. Online Anonymity ends as soon as you share something related or linked to you. Privacy is more like everyone knows what house you live In but they don’t know what you have in it because inside is private property and only you can share that with the people you want except the internet is only data. Many anonymous questions are quite ironic. It also allows troublemakers to have fun without too many repercussions. Gone are the days, where you can really remain anonymous on social media. Cyber security is taken on priority by Indian authorities, one wrong statement or one treat the anonymous can be traced and punished just like a 23-year-old engineer Ramnagesh Srinivas who has been arrested over online rape threats directed at India cricket team captain Virat Kohli’s nine-month-old daughter after the country lost back-to-back matches in the ongoing T20 World Cup in the UAE.

It’s in the nature of Congress, Gandhi family to attack Hinduism whenever they get a chance: BJP’s Patra

sambit patra, sambit, patra, bjp, bharatiya janata party, hinduism, hindu, congress, gandhi, rahul gandhiAttacking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Sambit Patra on Friday said that it is in the nature of the Congress and the Gandhi family to attack Hinduism whenever they get a chance.

Briefing reporters, Patra said, “It is unfortunate that within 24 hours Hindu religion is attacked thrice by the Congress party. First Salman Khurshid, then Alvi Sahab and now their biggest leader Rahul Gandhi himself. He has attacked Hinduism and Hindutva. It has been the character of the Congress and Gandhi family that whenever they get a chance, they attack Hinduism.”

“On December 17, 2010, Rahul Gandhi had said that the danger to the country is from Hindus more than terrorism. P Chidambaram ji used the word saffron terrorism for the first time on August 25, 2010. Rahul Gandhi visits the temple just before the election. They go to ask for votes. They do vote bank politics,” added the BJP leader. He said Congress leader Salman Khurshid’s comparing Hinduism with Boko Haram and ISIS or Shashi Tharoor’s giving the term Hindu Taliban is not a coincidence but an experiment.

“When Salman Khurshid speaks against Hinduism, compares it with Boko Haram and ISIS, when Shashi Tharoor says Hindu Taliban or when it is called saffron terrorism, actually this is not a coincidence but an experiment. And, the biggest leader of this laboratory is Rahul Gandhi. After Rahul Gandhi, people like Shashi Tharoor, Salman Khurshid, Digvijay Singh and Mani Shankar Aiyar give outrageous statements against Hinduism,” stated Patra. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday said Hinduism and Hindutva are two different things.

While addressing the launch of the Congress party’s digital campaign ‘Jan Jagran Abhiyan’ via video conferencing, Rahul Gandhi in his address asked, “What is the difference between Hinduism and Hindutva, can they be the same thing? If they are the same thing, why don’t they have the same name? They’re obviously different things. Is Hinduism about beating a Sikh or a Muslim? Hindutva of course is.” On Wednesday, former union minister Salman Khurshid got embroiled in controversy for “defaming and comparing Hinduism with terrorism” in his recent book “Sunrise Over Ayodhya: Nationhood in Our Times”.

Khurshid’s new book on the Ayodhya verdict was released last week. It explored the Apex Court’s landmark judgement on the Ayodhya dispute. The senior Congress leader Khurshid has compared Hindutva to radical terrorist groups like “ISIS and Boko Haram”. The development comes at a time when seven states in the country namely Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat are slated to go for assembly elections in the year 2022.

Delhi riots: ‘Calculated attack’, court frames murder charges against four accused

delhi riot, delhi, delhi court, delhi high courtCalling it a calculated attack, a Delhi court has framed charges of murder, rioting, and criminal conspiracy against four accused of allegedly killing a man during the riots here last year. Anwar Hussain, Kasim, Shahrukh, and Khalid Ansari is accused of allegedly murdering a man named Deepak by beating him mercilessly near Ambedkar College on February 25, 2020. He died due to hemorrhagic shock, as per the post mortem report.

Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat framed charges under requisite sections against the accused persons and explained it to them in vernacular in the presence of their lawyers, to which they pleaded not guilty and claimed trial in the case. The judge said, “By the manner of their mobilization and intent as construed from their conduct, the said unlawful assembly can be said to have conducted itself for riots and other offenses like the murder of deceased Deepak, in the prosecution of their common object.”

“The conspiracy is also writ large by the calculated attack on the victim by the unlawful assembly,” he said in an order dated November 9. The judge said that the most important witness in the case was one Sunil Kumar, who was an eyewitness to the entire incident and gave a complete picture as to how the deceased Deepak was killed by the “armed Muslim mob consisting of accused persons.”

As per the court order, Sunil had stated, “On February 25, one Muslim unlawful assembly coming from Kardampuri Pulia and shouting Allah Ho Akbar was trying to cross the Pulia Gokulpur. The said armed unlawful assembly caught hold of Deepak who was mercilessly beaten.” The eyewitness stated that he hid behind a wall behind the drain and saw the entire murder through the gap in the wall.

He also identified all the four accused persons by their names. “Thus, for the charge, the prosecution has been able to satisfy the Court that an unlawful assembly including accused persons in the prosecution of their common object had committed riots and hit the deceased Deepak with a deadly weapon causing his death,” the court noted.

The court said that there are grounds for presuming that the four accused committed offenses under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with a deadly weapon), and 302 (murder) read with section Section 149 (member of unlawful assembly guilty of the offense committed in prosecution of common object) of IPC. Charges have also been framed under sections 302 (murder) read with 120B (criminal conspiracy). Under the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), an accused should be informed of the offense under which he is charged. The basic purpose of the charge is to let them know of the offense that they are charged with so that they can prepare a defense.

Communal clashes had broken out in northeast Delhi in February 2020, after violence between the Citizenship (Amendment) Act supporters and its protesters spiraled out of control leaving at least 53 people dead and over 700 injured.

Dengue fever cases still on the rise in Mumbai

dengue, malaria, mumbai, mumbai dengue cases, dengue casesDengue cases have nearly tripled in the state this year compared to last year, a surge partly attributed to testing figures returning to normal levels. A rise has also been noted in malaria; two districts—Gadchiroli and Mumbai—are mainly contributing to the cases. The diversion of manpower to the prevention of Covid and vaccination is also believed to be hampering vector control measures.

The country has been battling dengue fever since early this year, at a time when state resources have been spent on curbing the COVID-19 outbreak. The similarities between dengue fever and COVID-19 symptoms have also complicated efforts to mitigate the annual spike in cases.

Doctors in Maharashtra are reporting fevers due to common cold, flu, typhoid, sporadic cases of malaria, and the occasional case of scrub typhus, aside from dealing with cases of mosquito-borne dengue which are on the rise.

State entomologist Dr Mahendra Jagtap said favourable weather conditions, intermittent rainfall, humidity levels, all advantageous for the spread of dengue, is contributing to the increase. “Testing has increased for both dengue and malaria this year. Last year, there was a drop in testing for almost all ailments,” he said. The slide examinations for malaria, for instance, had dropped to 1.24crore last year compared to 1.72crore in 2019, a 28% decline.

Dr Anshuman Manasvi said, “It is very important that people consult their doctors if the fever doesn’t reduce in two or three days. Self-medication, taking antibiotics and pain medicines must be avoided,” People must continue to take preventive measures. These days, we see dengue cases well into October and November, so people must be careful and check for mosquito breeding in their houses and neighbourhoods,” he said.

Dr Mishra of Borivali said, “If you catch a fever and it doesn’t get better after three days or you notice some kind of bleeding – red spots on the skin, bleeding gums or nose bleed – don’t hesitate to get checked out at the nearest health facility. People should not be afraid to visit health facilities, which were safer now than most other places because they usually had screening systems to separate non-COVID-19 and COVID-19 patients.”
