CBI, NIA, ED, IT Are No More Autonomous Bodies?

CBI, NIA, ED, Enforcement Directorate, IT Department, Income Tax, Central Agencies, BJP, Sanjay Raut, Raut, Varsha Raut, Swapna Patker, Shiv Sena

Whenever an opposition leader is raided or summoned by agencies like the Enforcement Directorate, BJP comes under attack. Since Modi took power many opposition leaders were raided, especially those who made noise against Modi or the party. Agencies like the Enforcement Directorate lost their credibility as they are increasingly being used in a political power game. IF we look at the series of raids since 2014, we will see only the opposition is raided or summoned and no ruling party leader is subjected to these inquiries. Rather the scams committed by BJP leaders are covered by all means. The importance of ED, CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) or the Income Tax Department is declining. Gone are the days when people believed the agency raids meant something serious offence, these days people translate it as a punishment given by the Modi government for speaking against them or not being part of their agenda. In recent times no one is ready to take these raids or summons seriously. Well, to the ED directives then the BJP and now NCP leader Eknath Khadse said he has some CD’s to play. And now Sanjay Raut is saying he has a file on BJP which contains 121 names and he would soon give it to the Enforcement Directorate. Raut’s wife Varsha Raut has to meet officials at the Mumbai office of the Enforcement Directorate on December 29. The agency is investigating alleged financial transactions between Varsha Raut and Pravin Raut, who is under arrest in the case. Pravin Raut is Sanjay Raut’s best friend and business partner too. Well, it would be too early to talk about Varsha Raut. Let her appear and let ED discover the wrongful participation if any.

Many politicians from almost all political parties have converted the cash into black wealth in the form of gold or Benami land holdings or foreign currencies or in stock exchanges. Even these are to be unearthed and hence the organizations of CBI, NIA, ED, IT, help to trace these illegal dealings. Many have been caught holding Benami land and property. Laluprasad and his family members are one prominent example. Rest all the leaders were arrested and bailed out due to insufficient evidence. Unfortunately, NDA came to power on the promises of honesty, transparency, and better performance, besides taking action against the Black Money. They called for demonetisation but no black money was traced. They claimed to bring back money deposited in Swiss banks, nothing that sort happened. All their claims and drill of proving opposition leaders corrupt gone in conduit. NDA’s first five-year term was somewhat scam-free, but people used to ask what actions were being taken against the culprits and how much black money has been brought back from the Swiss Bank. Then the Swiss Bank agreed to provide the names and other details and some high profile folks, with disproportionate assets, involved in money-laundering were supposed to be apprehended, as per the law of the land. But all this proved to be a jumla and BJP went random with attacks on whichever area they were contesting elections. Till the time they were in alliance with Shiv Sena, they did not find anything wrong. Just because Sena parted their ways, today all the so-called scams of Shiv Sena leaders are coming to the surface. If they were not wrong then, they should not be wrong now. If they were wrong then, in that case, BJP is equally wrong in mending their ways with corrupt political parties, be it Shiv Sena or NCP. BJP morally slipped in state and centre.

No one is likely to be discriminated against, targeted, or spared. Both of the institutions are run as Errand boys of the govt of the day, and they don’t reach justified conclusions. The cases are not closed, nor end, they are just kept pending, so that when arm twisting is to be done to gain political support, just open the files again. It happened in Subroto Roy’s case, Mayawati and bros case, Mulayam’s case, Devilal sons, and thousand such cases. The people in both these institutions are not saints, they might have made lots of illegal money, but the beauty is none of them have been caught and punished. The Supreme Court’s fall in the same bracket. All these institutions and heads are the final authorities and their judgements cannot be challenged. Money exchanges hands to get their protection, we have super-rich advocates on the panel and membership of all influential political parties and they are well protected. Basically, any political party (whether the BJP or the Congress) in power at centre and in the states automatically manage these independent institutions under its ambit in a bid to take revenge against the opposition by exposing its loopholes and gain sympathy among the masses for a vote bank in the next elections exhibiting its greatness. But the BJP has so much muscle and money power today than other parties that even by mistake it loses power in 2024 it would somehow or other manage to come out of the problem. Yes, the ED and the CBI institutions have become puppets completely under the present ruling govt when compared to the UPA govt and will not spare a person speaking against it (BJP) even if he’s honest or not and spare the fraudulent in supportive of it. Secondly, the persons posted to CBI at the lower and middle level have no experience of handling Economic offences like Bank Frauds and Tax fraud. These Inquiry Officials are mostly from the Central Para Military and they have no idea what economic rules Tax rules. Naturally, they again ask for experts from various departments to help them to understand the issue involved. Naturally, casualty comes out in the form of a 2G scam. All major scams are economic and they have failed it and they will fail always until they adopt more professionals from Various Revenue Services and Banking Company affairs etc. merely being empowered as Police officers will never help them to solve puzzles of Economic fraud. For example what they know about Special Economic Zone or Customs Export or Various Exports promotion Schemes. Further about the criminal offences the NIA is always there hence CBI needs a major overhaul of their areas of operations and mandate. Corruption and scams are not the prerogatives of a particular political party. The vyapam scam involving crores of rupees and mysterious deaths from Madhya Pradesh is an indication that BJP is different. Please note that the scams of the earlier government came to light and nationwide awareness was the result of enlightened non-political agencies and persons but never by the opposition or ruling parties.

The hunger strikes of Anna Hazare for the strict Lokpal bill shook the UPA government in regards to corruption and black money. But no one is yet booked or caught. Since the present regime is not a coalition (khichdi of different aspirations), the ministries appearing in the public are limited to only a handful and vigilant party functionaries are more powerful than the government vigilance, administrative machinery at least at the top is fearful, and it is been six years, so far nothing has come out except sporadic unfounded instances. The first term of the UPA was also like that! Absolute power and the blind support of the public embolden the ruling elite and the vested interests to shed the fear psychosis. And the apolitical institutions and the officers leaking the facts behind the curtain are inactive for obvious reasons. Let’s wish that the present government will not be mired under similar circumstances but nevertheless, public awareness is the only guarantee which at this juncture is high doctrine.

Raut Gives Damn? As ED Summons His Wife Varsha Raut

sanjay raut, varsha raut, raut, shiv sena, ed, enforcement directorate, sena, ed summon, summons, devendra fadnavis, bjp, uddhav thackeray, kihim beach, pmc bank, pmc scamThe Enforcement Directorate (ED) has sent a notice to Varsha Raut, wife of Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut, in connection with the PMC Bank Scam. Varsha Raut will reach the ED office on December 29 for questioning. Slamming the Centre, Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi leaders called it a blatant misuse of the central agencies by the government. Varsha received 55 lakhs in her bank account and ED has been probing the source of this transfer. Sanjay Raut said that he would never be scared of such politically driven things.

The Congress and the NCP came out strongly against the central government over the issue of an ED notice to Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha Raut.

Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said “This is nothing but revenge politics and we express disapproval of it strongly. These days BJP is using ED as their missile against all those who challenge their political existence. That was never seen before in Maharashtra politics,”

Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee chairperson and senior cabinet minister Balasaheb Thorat too expressed a similar opinion. “The only reason for doing such a thing is to strike fear in our hearts. They want to spread panic among those who speak against the BJP. This is not democratic. In a democracy, everyone has the right to express their opinion,” he said. Congress spokesperson Sachin Sawant also hit out at the BJP and said the party should now open an Enforcement Directorate office in its own premises of headquarters.

In an apparent swipe at the Centre, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said whoever speaks against policies or leaders of the BJP is facing action by the Central agencies. Anybody who speaks against policies or leaders of the BJP faces the ED or the CBI. As far as the Central Bureau of Investigation is concerned, we had taken a decision that any probe by that agency in Maharashtra cannot be pursued without the permission of the state government. “However, the rights of ordering an ED inquiry is with them (the Central government), but using these rights for the political purpose was something never seen in Maharashtra,” Deshmukh said

Meanwhile, Raut said he has not received any summons from the central agency. In a sarcastic comment, he said he had sent some men to the BJP office to find out if they had received any summons.

In the meantime, Senior Congress leader Ashok Chavan said that the Shiv Sena is not part of the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) as the tie-up between the Congress and the Shiv Sena is only limited to Maharashtra. “Shiv Sena is yet to become a part of the UPA. Our alliance with the Sena in Maharashtra is based on a Common Minimum Programme (CMP) and limited to Maharashtra,” he said. The comments by the state PWD minister came just a day after Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut called for expansion of the Congress-led bloc saying that the opposition should unite against the “dictatorial attitude” of the Centre and provide a “formidable alternative” to the Narendra Modi government. Raut had also appreciated Sonia Gandhi and said that she effectively led the UPA all these years with many allies in the fold. Responding to a query on speculation that NCP chief Sharad Pawar may head the UPA, Raut said there was no dearth of leaders in the country. “What is important is the support of people. Apart from Sonia Gandhi, Sharad Pawar has support from a cross-section of people,” he said.

Chavan responded to this comment and said that it was not proper for the Uddhav Thackeray-led party to comment on the UPA leadership. “Sharad Pawar himself has denied the speculation that he will be the next chairperson of the UPA. UPA allies trust the leadership of Sonia Gandhi. So there is no need to discuss the issue,” Chavan said. The Shiv Sena heads the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra, of which the NCP and the Congress are constituents.

Farmers’ Stir: Centre Invites 40 Unions For Next Round Of Talks On Dec 30

farmers, protest, farmers' stir, union, centre, governmentThe government on Monday invited 40 protesting farmer unions for the next round of talks on December 30 on all relevant issues to find a “logical solution” to the current impasse over the three new farm laws.

The government’s invite followed a proposal made by unions last week to hold the talks on December 29.

In a letter to the unions, Agriculture Secretary Sanjay Aggarwal has invited them for holding talks at 2 pm on December 30 at Vigyan Bhavan in the national capital. So far, five rounds of formal talks held between the Centre and 40 protesting farmer unions remained inconclusive.

Taking note of the unions’ offer to resume talks, Aggarwal said, “The government is also committed to finding a logical solution on all relevant issues with a clear intention and an open mind.”

It’s been over a month now that thousands of farmers, especially from Punjab, Haryana, and parts of Uttar Pradesh, are camping at Delhi borders seeking repeal of the three farm laws. They have threatened to intensify their stir in the coming days if their demands are not fulfilled.

Journalism Running Behind The News Needs Some Red Light

journalism, media, social media, press, fake media, fake news, media regulations(What kind of journalism if the first news of any media institution does not bring a smile on the face of the people? Today the emphasis is on getting the news in channels and newspapers across the country quickly while maintaining objectivity, fairness, and accuracy in the news is also extremely important. Social networks such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Twitter have become a source of news for people, but have no journalistic standards.)

Today, amidst the growing influence of social media, the importance of credibility for media has increased more than ever. Today, while the emphasis is on getting news in channels and newspapers across the country quickly, it is also very important to maintain objectivity and accuracy in the news. Internet and information rights (RTI) has made today’s journalism multifaceted and endless. Today, any information can be made available in a blink of an eye. Media has become very strong, independent, and influential today. In today’s era, there have been many mediums of journalism too; Such as – newspapers, magazines, radio, Doordarshan, web-journalism, and social media, etc.

With the changing times, the interrelationships of markets and journalism have brought about extensive changes in the content and presentation style of journalism. The widespread use of journalistic access and freedom of expression is usually associated with social concerns and well-being, but now it is also being misused. Social networks such as Facebook, WhatsApp, and Twitter have become sources of news for people, but have no journalistic standards. The dissemination of misinformation or news has been greatly enhanced by the highly targeted algorithms used by these companies. They are likely to bombard users with this information.

They are likely to bombard users with information that serves to reinforce what the algorithm thinks the searcher should know. As they familiarize themselves with the Internet, new online Indians are bound to fall prey to algorithms that use social network firms.

Apart from the communication revolution and the right to information, economic liberalization has completely changed the face of journalism. The huge earning from advertisements has made journalism to a large extent commercial. Today, the media has become the target of maximum earning. The result of this commercial approach of media is that its focus has deviated from social concerns. Instead of issues-based journalism, infotainment remains in the media headlines today.

The widespread and widespread public access to the Internet has also led to its misuse. Internet users are misusing this useful tool to get out of private rage and to commit objectionable behavior. This is the reason why the debate of curbing these multifaceted means of media is also sparse. Thankfully, this debate is limited to suggestions and complaints. There is no way of implementing it. It is in the interest of democracy that journalism should be allowed to remain independent and uninterrupted as far as possible and journalism’s interest is to use its freedom of expression for the honest discharge of its obligations to society and social concerns.

Recently Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu said that while explaining his responsibility to the media, he urged media personnel that they should follow the rules and principles of journalism and stop the spread of fake and false news. Also, the news should be communicated to the people in the correct, accurate, and simple language. He said that we are moving towards change and reforms at this time. Accurate information and procedures are necessary to take these reforms forward. The media should focus on the factors that promote development over time and bring about change for the betterment of society, and should pay attention to such news.

Venkaiah Naidu underlined the need for effective guidelines and legislation to streamline a revenue-sharing model between tech-based social media giants and traditional media struggling to generate revenue. Although traditional print media has sincerely gone online and is adopting technological disruption, it is struggling to come up with a viable revenue model. The Vice President said that some countries are taking measures to ensure revenue sharing by social media giants for print media. Naidu stressed that we also need to seriously consider this problem and agree with effective guidelines and laws so that print media can get its share from the large revenue of technology giants.

Does fake news affect the choice of citizens of the country? Mainly media coverage has to strike a balanced and neutral approach. But fake news is untrue information that is presented as news. Its purpose is often to damage the reputation of an individual or institution or to earn money through advertising revenue. Fake news has increased in digital media or social media, except for little print. In India, the spread of fake news is mostly about political and religious matters. However, misinformation related to the Covid-19 epidemic was also widely circulated. Fake news spread through social media has become a serious problem in the country.

However, internet shutdowns are often used by the government to prevent social media rumors from spreading. The government is also planning to take more public-education initiatives to make the public more aware of fake news. Fact-checking has encouraged the creation of fact-checking websites in India to counter fake news. But this fourth pillar of society should also be understood that journalism becomes meaningful only by connecting with social concerns and public interest. Sustainable journalism is the responsibility of taking social concerns to the threshold of the system and taking the public welfare policies and schemes to the bottom of society.

Journalism is the fourth found (pillar) of democracy. Any democracy is strong only when journalism continues to play a meaningful role in social concerns. The purpose of meaningful journalism should be that it should play the role of an important link between administration and society. If the first news of any media institution does not bring a smile to the face of the people, then what kind of journalism is that? Journalism running behind the news also needs red light for a short time so that it can move forward peacefully and show people the right path.
