Pakistan’s Senate on Thursday passed a resolution condemning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent remarks on the Indian role in creation of Bangladesh.
The resolution was passed unanimously, and condemns the recent provocative and hostile statements by Indian leaders against Pakistan, Pakistani media reported.
The resolution rejected India’s “hegemonic mindset” and stressed that Pakistan will never allow Indian forces to violate its territory.
During the discussion on the resolution, political leaders emphasised that the armed forces of Pakistan would give a befitting reply to any incursion attempt by India.
The resolution came a day after India said its surgical strikes inside Myanmar to exterminate militants were a message to other neighbours, indirectly implying a warning to Pakistan.
Pakistan had earlier also condemned PM Modi’s remarks acknowledging India’s “intervention” in the events of 1971 and alleged the same were aimed at fanning hatred against it.
Islamabad had also called on the UN to take notice of India’s “open admission” of indulging in subversive activities to destabilise the country.
“Pakistan will take all possible steps to expose India’s role in the break-up of East Pakistan in 1971 and its threat to destabilise Pakistan through terrorism,” Pakistan Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz told Parliament.
Modi, in his remarks during his recent visit to Bangladesh, had talked about the role of his country in the independence of Bangladesh.
“Pakistan aaye din (constantly) disturbs India, jo naako dum la deta hai (creates nuisance), terrorism ko badhawa (deta hai)…ki ghatnaayein ghatthi rehti hain (promotes terrorism and such incidents keep recurring),” the PM said in his address to Dhaka University during his Bangladesh trip.
Recalling that 90,000 Pakistani prisoners of war were in India’s captivity during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War, Modi had said, “If we had a diabolic mindset, we don’t know then what decision we would have taken.”
