Releasing a Nigerian after 22 months of “unlawful” incarceration, the Bombay high court on Friday, as an “exceptional case,” directed the state to pay him Rs 2 lakh as compensation.
The direction by Justice Bharati Dangre came after the state’s advocate A A Takalkar said the state will initiate an inquiry against the erring officers and “at present there is no policy for giving compensation.
