PM Narendra Modi warns BJP lawmakers, don’t cross lakshman rekha

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday asked all BJP parliamentarians not to cross ‘lakshman rekha’ while airing their views, in a fallout of the recent controversial remarks made by Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and Sakshi Maharaj.

At the BJP parliamentary board meeting held this morning, PM Modi strictly advised BJP MPs not to cross ‘lakshman rekha’ in their remarks and instead focus on development.

He also again issued a stern warning to MPs who have been coming late to Parliament or party meetings.

Today also, several MPs, including ministers, arrived late for the parliamentary board meeting.

As regards the warning relating to airing views, the PM’s advice came after Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and Sakshi Maharaj’s controversial remarks put the party in the dock, both inside and outside Parliament.

While Niranjan Jyoti had used abusive words to describe opposition leaders while calling on voters in Delhi to vote for the party, Sakshi Maharaj, on the other hand, had called Nathuram Godse, who had killed Mahatma Gandhi, as a ‘patroit’.

While Niranjan Jyoti later apologised in Parliament for her remarks, Sakshi Maharaj was forced to withdraw his remarks in Lok Sabha and expressed regret.
