Prime Minister Narendra Modi may have warned party MPs against crossing the ‘lakshman rekha’ but party leaders like Sakshi Maharaj appear to be not keen to follow the directive.

The Unnao MP courted controversy by saying that all Hindu women should produce at least four children in order to protect the future of Hinduism.

Speaking at the Sant Samagam Mahotsava in Meerut on Tuesday evening, he said gone are the days of four wives and forty children.

“Time has come for Hindu women to produce at least four children in order to protect the Hindu religion,” he said.

Maharaj went to on to say that of the four children, one must be put in the company of saintly men, another one should join the armed forces to protect the country, while the rest two should take care of the family.

During his speech, the BJP MP also touched upon the controversy surrounding ‘ghar wapsi’. While stressing that a special law be enacted to stop religious conversions, he said he supported reconversion.

Maharaj also said that those who indulge in cow slaughter will be awarded capital punishment after the bill for the same is passed in the Parliament.

He had earlier courted controversy for saying that Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin Nathuram Godse was a “patriot”.
