Already having made their mark in various fields like army, police and roadways, now women are exploring new horizons by choosing firefighting job as their career option.

The Sikar fire department has hired four women fire fighters recently taking the total staff count to 22. The new joinees have already hit the field to douse fire in times of emergency.

Even as firefighting is deemed fit for men by Indian society, women can also take the challenge and prove the popular belief is a myth, say the women firefighters.

On being asked why they chose a field where life is at stake every minute, Suman from Ringus, said, “Women are not behind men in any field, then why should we feel we can’t become fire fighters. We can and we will.”

Most of the women firefighters have studied fire fighting diploma before making their way into the Fire department.
