Sikhs staged a protest against 1984 communal riots prime accused Jagdish Tytler outside Congress headquarters in Delhi on Friday.

The police had to use water cannons to disperse the protestors, who tried to cross the barricades placed to stop them.

Earlier, arms dealer Abhishek Verma had reportedly told the CBI that Tytler had told him in 2008 that he got a clean chit after meeting Manmohan Singh. Verma had also claimed that Tytler had tried to influence a witness in the riots case.

Tytler was among the three prominent leaders named in the reports on anti-Sikh riots case.

The 1984 anti-Sikh riots, which claimed the lives of almost 3,000 Sikhs, were triggered by the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on October 31, 1984, by her two Sikh bodyguards.
