Social worker Sindhutai Sapkal felicitated

Sindhutai Sapkal AVNoted social worker Sindhutai Sapkal, fondly called as the Mother of Orphans, has been felicitated by an organisation in Uttar Pradesh for her outstanding contribution in the service of humanity.

Sapkal (70) was conferred the Dr Rammanohar Tripathi Lokseva Samman at an event organised in UPs Rae Bareli district recently.

The Pune-based social activist appealed to the people to come up and help the deprived sections of the society.

“In order to realise the dream of a prosperous India, we must extend our all out support to the needy people of the society and this is deshbhakti (patriotism) in the real sense,” Sapkal said at the felicitation.

She told the audience about her ordeal and the series of struggles that she had to face in fulfilling her mission.

Sapkal has adopted over 1,000 orphan children over her long career, and has received several awards including the Ahilyabai Holkar Award by Maharashtra government.

The award was instituted in the name of Dr Ram Manohar Tripathi, a Mumbai-based litterateur, journalist and social worker activist.
