The incident took place at around 4 am on Sunday when the three young men met at the Gateway of India in South Mumbai on a weekend to ‘catch up’.

The men in their complaint lodged on Monday alleged that while they were chatting, a patrolling van approached them and an altercation broke out between them.

“A probe has been ordered into the allegation made by the youths that policemen misbehaved them and used some ‘objectionable’ words while they were sitting near Gateway of India,” a senior police official said today.

The officer said during the preliminary enquiry, the cops in question have denied the charge.

“Still this whole incident is being inquired by senior officers,” he said, adding the three youths will also be called for enquiry soon.

A video of the incident was recorded and uploaded by the complainants on Facebook.

“One of the cops approached and asked us to leave (the place) in a very rude manner. When we asked that there should be a logical reason and that why should we leave. Then he said, it is an order, you are not allowed to stand here, so just leave,” the men claimed.
