The 6th Vasai Virar Mayor’s Marathon, a national level event to be run on December 11, has offered a total prize fund of Rs. 35 lakh across all categories.

The winner of the men’s full race stands to gain Rs. 2.5 lakh while the winners of the half marathon, among men and women, would each take home Rs. 1.25 lakh each, it was announced by the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation’s first woman Mayor, Pravina Thakur, at a media conference.

Organised jointly by the Corporation and the Vasai Taluka Kala Krida Vikas Mandal, the marathon gained national status in 2012 and the upcoming race promises to be bigger and better, it was announced.

Among women athletes, Kavita Raut, Sudha Singh, Lalita Babbar, Monika Athare, Monika Raut, Rohini Raut and Priyanka Singh Patel have been regular entrants.
