Woman gang-raped while house-hunting, 7 arrested, sent to PC till Nov 4

MUMBAI: A woman who was house-hunting with her husband in Amboli was allegedly gang-raped on Monday night. Seven suspects have been arrested and sent to police custody till November 4.

The police are on the lookout for the eighth one. The 28 years old victim’s condition is said to be stable.

According to police officials, the incident occurred between late Monday night and early Tuesday morning in a slum in Jogeshwari.

“The victim and her husband were looking for a house in a slum in the locality with the help of a local resident. They were staying at the local resident’s house for the night, which is where the incident occurred,” said Mumbai Police spokesperson DCP Ashok Dudhe.

The officer added that the victim is stable and further mentioned that of the eight accused, one has a prior criminal record. The accused are in the age group of 20 to 25.

The men who have been arrested were allegedly in the house with the couple when the husband was taken outside and his wife sexually assaulted.

After the incident, the couple went to Amboli police station and narrated the matter and the police, on the basis of their complaint, arrested seven.

Meanwhile, the police have launched a probe for the eighth accused.

The accused have been booked for gang rape, wrongful confinement, assault and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code.
