Two days after a Delhi traffic policeman was accused of attacking a young mother of three with a brick, an audio conversation has surfaced on Wednesday which gives a new twist to the whole episode.
In the audio clip, the woman, Ramandeep Kaur, can be heard abusing Head Constable Satish Chandra and refusing to show her scooter’s registration papers and driver license to him.
The audio reveals the head constable initially telling the woman that she has jumped the red signal for which she has to pay a penalty. When Kaur refused to pay the fine, Chandra warns her that the ‘challan’ will be issued to her from court if she doesn’t pay the fine.
Following the argument, the lady lost her cool and started hurling abuses at the traffic cop calling him a loser (tucchha).
The policeman is also heard shouting at the lady.
Meanwhile, when spoke to the head constable, who defended himself by saying that his side of the story is still unheard.
The traffic cop told that the lady used abusive language against him and tried to hit him with a brick. He claimed that Kaur was the first to throw a stone at him. The cop also alleged that his bike’s mudguard broke and he got hit on his leg when she threw brick at him.
The Delhi Police head constable was on Monday dismissed after the news spread. He was booked under relatively lighter sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
According to police, a case was registered against accused cop Satish Chandra under Section 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), Section 341 (punishment for wrongful restraint) and Section 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the IPC.
The incident occurred in the posh Golf Link area of central Delhi, following which he was arrested and dismissed from service as the incident triggered widespread outrage.
The matter came to light after a video surfaced on Monday showing a scuffle breaking out between the woman and Chandra. The mobile clip shows the lady hurling a stone at the policeman’s bike, while the errant cop is seen attacking back the woman with a brick. The video clip clearly showed the lady getting hit on her back.
