A 28-year-old Mumbai woman, who on Thursday evening claimed that she was attacked by an unidentified man near Mahalaxmi Race Course, has on Friday confessed that the injury on her body was self inflicted.
The woman, identified as Priyanka Hetpure, told the police that after getting into a fight with her boyfriend, she took out a butter knife and slashed her chest on the left side. To hide the incident, she initially told the police that someone had attacked her.
She further claimed that she wanted to get married to her boyfriend against the wishes of her parents.
Meanwhile, doctors suspected the injury on Hepture to be self inflicted as the assault didn’t cause pierce injury and was not vertical in shape.
When senior inspector Sanjay Surve, of Tardeo Police Station, questioned her boyfriend, the truth came out.
The woman, who is a divorcee and has a child, worked at a private company in the city. Since some months, she was having an affair with a 22-year-old man.
The incident occurred at around 7.30 PM on Thursday near the race course and the victim is reported to be out of danger.
Nair Hospital authorities informed the police control room about the victim. Senior police officials late Thursday night went to the hospital.
