The most important task for the new government will be to keep unworthy cabinet aspirants away. L.K Advani and Murli Manohar Joshi must not demand for a cabinet berth. If they do so, RSS must snub them and publicly express displeasure about their ambitions. They should function as guides and “margdarshaks”. Joshi can be a appointed as the Vice-chancellor while Advani can head the Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya institute or any other similar organization.

There is no capable person possessing good English language skills who can have a dialogue with foreign countries like Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, UAE etc. To interact with Americans you don’t need a tall man, you can have a good secretary of external affairs. Americans are pragmatic people, they can deal with anyone. Subramanian Swamy could have been a an ideal Minister of External affairs but Modi may not choose him. Despite being talented, Swamy’s unpredictability with the mouth may be slightly suspect.

Rajnath Singh can become a good defence minister. He is “ kshatriya” and honest and what more do you need? As a party president, he has already done a good job and there is nothing much he can do. There are reports that Singh wanted Home Ministry. A home minister has to be “ sam daam dand bhed” type and strong man like the stature of Amit Shah. Rajnath is too straight forward and is ideally suited for becoming a Defence Minister. There is no harm in inducting Kiran Bedi as the Home Minister. She can get elected from a seat which Modi may relinquish or through Rajya Sabha route. She is balanced, possesses experience and has been pro-Modi.

Under no circumstances you should seek the support of NCP otherwise you will never be able to control price rise. Suresh Prabhu is a good choice for the Environment Ministry. Why not induct Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar in the cabinet? Some other leader can replace him in the state. Shahnawaz Hussain or Manohar Parrikar could be appointed as the External Affairs Minister. Parrikar was the man who spoke loud and clear on Modi.

External Affairs ministry and Ministry of Industry and Commerce must work closely because these days there is no politics in international matters and it is more about business and commercial interests. One can import technology from Europe, China and Japan. Before Swamy heads overseas, Modi can warn him to refrain from issuing controversial statements. Our country will be governed by good IAS officers, who will be trained, retrained and whose performance will be closely monitored. British had introduced the Indian Civil Services (ICS). Selection to the ICS was largely made through selection and recommendation and similar steps must be undertaken while picking the IAS officers. Seniority and reservation should not be the sole criterion for selection to this post.
