Carey Mulligan said she never bothered about being paid equally as she was just happy to be acting in film.

“I think I probably felt lucky to be there. I felt so completely overwhelmed at the beginning of my film career, I felt like ‘I should be paying you guys’,” Mulligan said

The 32-year-old actor was speaking at the Cannes Film Festival where she is promoting her upcoming film “Wildlife”, which marks the directorial of Paul Dano.

The “Drive” actor said she has now become “proactive” about being paid fairly and will not tolerate any discrimination, reported Contactmusic.

“I think people won’t tolerate it anymore. I probably wasn’t aware of it before, but now we’re all aware and we can be proactive about it,” she said.

Mulligan said being a woman her voice did not matter earlier in the industry, but she believes that things have started to change with actors coming in.

“Very often I felt my voice didn’t matter as much as (those of) the men around me, because I was female. Young actresses coming up now will feel stronger and better because of what’s happening at the moment and feel that what they say matters,” Mulligan added.
