Transition from campus to corporate life

Ask any person what they miss the most about school and college life? The sure shot answer most of them will give is friends, extra-curriculum activities and favourite teacher. As every student approaches high school, they slowly come to accept the fact that very soon ‘these happy days’ are going to end. The SSC (10th std.), HSC (12th std.) and TY (Final year) are the main and important exams every candidate must pass in order to be called a graduate. For students these exams are no less than some hurdles that they have to cross. It is a great achievement when we pass these exams with good percentage. But remember your marksheet will just get you inches closer to your desired dream job, once you actually step into the corporate world; it is only survival of the smartest.

The most amazing and proud moment is when you receive your graduation certificate. But the actual struggle begins from there on, as you have applied to various companies but no one has responded back. If you have got contacts with influential people then you are the lucky one as you get placed without much hiccups. Being unemployed and sitting at home doing nothing is the worst feeling, worse than a break-up! Sometimes the youth are unemployed for months on end giving rise to the feeling of depression which is not good at all (as some tend to get suicidal). And the day you are destined to get the job, that day completely changes your life. All that emotions of frustration and anger disappears as you wait to begin the new and different phase of life. A full-time working professional with a busy schedule is what I mean to say.

The transition from being a student to a working professional is complete life-changing as once upon a time they used to idle around with friends for hours and today the same person hardly gets any time to relax or enjoy with family/friends. Some individuals are so enthusiastic about their work that they look forward going to office everyday depending on what department they are assigned. On the other hand, some really find it hard to accept the complete transformation in their lifestyle. Earlier these youngsters used to lead care-free, enjoyable life but suddenly when their life takes a turn and these same young lads are loaded with responsibilities, stressed and their social life comes to a standstill. Friends, who used to meet up regularly, now don’t bother to message and slowly the friendship between them ceases to exist. At times, the feeling of loneliness may give rise to psychological problems so it is important for them to keep their social life active. But this transition has its own pros and cons, on one side the person gets a boost to his self-esteem as he is independent now and has got his own self-identity (name and fame) associated with the position. He doesn’t have to depend on his family for financial support, also that he is contributing to the family income gives him a feeling that takes him on high. But on the other hand he stands to lose out his freedom which he had as a student. The individual has to accept the harsh reality that they are part of the corporate world where there is no place for emotions and all that matters is your ‘Work’.
