One feels happy for filmmaker Karan Johar who became a father and single parent through surrogacy but adoption is a better option which needs to be encouraged in an overpopulated country like India. IVF technology can be painful at times for the female whose womb is being used and why go against God’s own law of pregnancy and childbirth when adoption gives more joy for people who are unable to conceive naturally or don’t get into wedlock by remaining single.
I have nothing against celebrities who of late are in the news for becoming parents through surrogacy be it Shah Rukh Khan, Tusshar Kapoor or now Karan Johar but the rich and famous should popularize adoption than ‘surrogacy’ as it has an dual advantage of not only controlling the nation’s population but giving roof and home to an orphaned kid. The government too should ban surrogacy pregnancy which is unnatural through law in most cases and perhaps exempt married couples unable to conceive in rare cases. India is a land of teeming numbers and we need to popularize birth control methods than celebrate surrogacy parenthood which is a taboo on the society.
