A 58-year-old Shankaran had recently taken part in the Republic Day parade in Chennai. The same night, he performed a dance at a hotel room that was videographed by his colleagues.

In a spur of the moment, Shankaran made an impromptu dance performance in front of his colleagues, while in uniform. He danced his heart out to the foot-tapping drum beats and some of his colleagues recorded this on their phones.

The footage went viral on social media including Facebook and instant messaging apps like WhatsApp, prompting Shankaran to be placed under suspension on Tuesday.

The then Salem Central Prison Superintendent Shanmugasundaram conducted inquiry after this incident came under light. Amidst all this, another allegation against the Deputy Jailer surfaced how Shankaran forced a prisoner to cut his hair and give him a massage previous month. Shankaran was transferred to Coimbatore prison before the new superintendent of Salem Central Prison M Senthil Kumar served suspension order to Shankaran based on the inquiry.
