Denzel Washington, who has been named best actor at this year’s Screen Actors Guild Awards for his outstanding role in August Wilson’s ‘Fences’, accepted the award by admitting he really didn’t believe in himself.

“Thank you very much,” he began. “You know, I am a God-fearing man. I’m supposed to have faith, but I didn’t have faith. God bless you all, all the other actors. I’d say, ‘You know, young boys are going to win, you ain’t going to win.’ So I didn’t even prepare. But I am prepared!,” reports E! Online.

Washington proceeded to recognize Tennessee Williams, Arthur Miller and Wilson, who he regarded as “the guys that don’t get recognized,” as he held back tears.

The 62-year-old, who beat out ‘Manchester by the Sea’s Casey Affleck, ‘Hacksaw Ridge’s Andrew Garfield, ‘La La Land’s Ryan Gosling and ‘Captain Fantastic’s Viggo Mortensen for the honor, gave one final shout out to the film’s leading lady. “Oh, one last thing: to Viola Davis!”

This is Washington’s first SAG win, as he was previously nominated for best actor for ‘Flight’, ‘Training Day’ and ‘The Hurricane’. He was also nominated as part of the ensemble cast of ‘American Gangster’.
