Disclosure of Collegium Proceedings, a welcome decision

It is indeed victory of transparency-movement in India that Supreme Court judges took a welcome decision of disclosure of collegium-proceedings on selection of judges for higher courts on website for which present judges of Supreme Court deserve all appreciation. Earlier it was a CIC-verdict which made judges disclose their wealth on website even though RTI application simply required response if judges were following their own-passed resolution to submit wealth-details to Chief Justice or not.

With Supreme Court judges now voluntarily deciding disclosure of collegium-proceedings on website, there remains no logic in continuing with stay-order on CIC-verdicts allowing disclosure of earlier such proceedings. Chief Justice of India should take initiative for urgent hearing for vacating long-pending stay-orders both by Supreme Court and Delhi High Court on CIC-verdicts so as to provide relief to those having demanded such disclosures under RTI Act.
