Don’t accord ‘Most Favoured Nation’ status to Pakistan

Some organisations are nowadays clamouring for the withdrawal of Pakistan’s ‘Most Favoured Nation’ status. This demand is praiseworthy. This status should have been withdrawn long ago given the stressed relations with Pakistan. India had given the ‘Most Favoured Nation’ status to Pakistan on 1.Jan. 1993 by Prime Minister P.V. Narasinmha Rao. It gives Pakistan special terms in trade, like low fees and exemption in various trade tax. Here Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj comes to my mind! He did not maintain trade relations with the Moghuls. He never felt the need to give anyone the status of ‘Most Favoured Nation’.
