Encourage your child to read

Due to rapid technological advancement libraries are shutting down. I don’t have any reason to discuss what technology is and how it has proven to be a boon for mankind. Many online book stores have e book option which is cheaper. Nowadays most of the readers prefer to read e books.

At the same time children do not know much about library. I seriously doubt whether any child try to send letters to someone besides learning letter writing in schools. Today’s generation is very unlucky to understand the sentiments and emotions of writing to someone you miss, those bubbles and excitement caused when reply arrives, those old books, ruffled pages, or smell of the new book. Google has made things easy and convenient but many teachers are unhappy with the conduct of students today.

Teachers appreciate the wide knowledge of technology and practical approach towards life. But on the other hand they do not find it reasonable. Many teachers say that mobile phone, laptops or computers are good if these devices are used for reading purposes. Computer and other gadgets can prove to be more distractive due to the presence of multiple games in it and many other softwares. Thus if a kid starts reading his favourite book like Tin Tin and if he feels like playing games he might skip reading. However, there is no distraction if you have books in your hand.

Mrs Kadam a tuition teacher who teaches mathematics says, “My son is working abroad, my husband passed away few years ago so I am unaware about technicalities. In between, I missed my son and wanted to see him eagerly. While I taking tuition I told one of my student from seventh grade. He said why don’t you ask your son to mail his pictures to you? He pulled out his mobile phone and asked me whether I have PC inside. I replied that my son has a laptop. He said do you mind using it and I replied no. Immediately, he switched on it and connected to internet with the help of his mobile (hot spot). He taught me how to send mail, as I asked my son for his mail id. Even my son was surprised to see me operating the internet.
Thus even the seventh grade children are very tech savvy today. Google is there real teacher. Today, no child needs father or mother to educate them about puberty as information is available on internet.

Today, I read reports about libraries shutting down. For attracting children towards reading Puffin India and Amazon are presenting a contest for kids who are actually celebrating the 50th anniversary of Roald Dahl’s book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the classic for children. Five kids will win a trip to London. A contestant has to visit amazon.in/contest and answer five questions about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to win all expenses paid trip for you and your child to London. The winners will receive an opportunity to watch the Charlie and the chocolate factory musical in London’s West End.
