Four habits that can transform your life

Hello again, this week let me direct your attention to your free time. I am sure you get some time for yourself during the day. What you do in this free time can greatly transform the quality of life you are presently experiencing. We live in an age where food that used to take us hours to obtain, can now be delivered to our door steps within thirty minutes. Never in the history of mankind have we had this much free time on our hands like now. Yet, it is sad to say that a vast majority of us waste our time. We turn on our television sets or play games on our mobile phones, spend hours on social networking and chatting sites or consume alcohol, drugs just to kill our time. What a complete waste. What would be a better way to utilise this free time? If you are even the slightest bit serious about being a winner in this game called life, here are the four most important things you need to be spending your time on.

Exercise: This first task is crucial, with so much free time on our hands, we need the energy to remain active. A few centuries ago, we used to move around and lift things. Almost all of our jobs required us to move around and work on our bodies whether it was farming or creating tools in the workshop. Now most of us work behind computer screens and have sitting jobs. We are not getting the right amount of exercise that our bodies need to function properly. It has been proven by studies that people who workout possess more energy throughout the day. Just taking that first step to join a gym or going for a daily walk will help in improving your fitness and gaining more energy. Your brain will also be releasing happy chemicals that help combat the effects of stress and anxiety.

Reading: I know, you have probably heard this advice a thousand times. But are you aware of its benefits. The curriculum that you are studying in schools is outdated. A major amount of information you learnt in school is not going to be applicable in real life. This means that a vast majority of people do not know what they are doing. Real life knowledge like managing finances, social skills, dating, diet and fitness are basically not existent among the vast majority of the population. In my opinion, this is actually a very good aspect. It means that you can easily climb to the top as your competitors are not proficient with these skills. A famous entrepreneur once said, “You can become an expert in any field by reading just three books on that subject”. Just by reading three books you will know more about any subject than most of the people out there. If you are serious about winning this game of life, you have to read as many self-development books you can get your hands on, as they provide the practical knowledge that can be applied in real life.

Meditation: Meditation is one of those things that has been proven a hundred times over to be extremely beneficial, yet a very few people practice it. That is probably because on the ground level it is one of the most boring things to do. You sit down and do nothing. Right? Actually there is a lot more to meditation. When you meditate you are actually training your brain. You learn how to control what thoughts to focus on and which of those to ignore. Just this skill is enough to become a happier person. It is also a great source of mental energy. If you were to ask me which one habit could change your life, I would instantly respond with meditation. Just ten minutes of meditation a day, is enough to start experiencing its benefits.

Hobby/ Passion: I strongly believe that everyone has a passion that triggers the inner child in them. It is something that brings out some excitement in you. Instead of dreading the time spent on it, you get lost in the exploration. The first three habits that I have shared in this list will help and support your hobby or your passion. Reading gives you the knowledge to grow in your hobby. Meditation gives you the headspace for creativity and exercise gives your body the energy to focus on this hobby even after a long day at work. This passion or hobby can be dance, art, writing or singing or whatever that makes you happy. This is your source of fulfilment. Without it you will feel as if there is something missing in your life. If you work on your hobby long enough and hone your craft, it can also become a source of income. Once you reach this stage your life will transform from the one that you dread, to the one that will excite you.

Until next week

Stay positive, stay abundant.
