Gatimaan: Travel with Great Speed

Gatimaan Express is India’s first semi high speed train that runs between Delhi and Agra in India. It operates at a maximum speed of 160 km/h and is the fastest train in India till date. The train takes 100 minutes to cover the 188 kilometres journey from Delhi’s Hazrat Nizamuddin to Agra Cantt Railway station which makes the average speed as 112 km/h.

I had got the opportunity to travel from Agra Cantt to Hazrat Nizamuddin with family on 10th March 2017.  It was indeed a pleasure trip as you never feel that you are traveling in a very fast train.  There is no jolt or jerk on the way as the suspension use in the coaches are good.  Snacks were served in the train by the Rail hostess and were giving a feel as you are travelling in an aeroplane unless and until you see through the window out.  We enjoyed this 100 minute journey and the point is though this is premium train seats were full. This train is not available on Fridays as Taj Mahal is closed on that day for performing the Namaz.

Gatimaan Express is leaving from Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station in the morning at 8.10 and reaching Agra Cantt at 9.50 am. In the return journey, the train will depart from Agra Cantt in the evening at 5.50 and reaching Hazrat Nizamuddin at 7.30 pm. The fare for air condition chair car (A/C CC) in Gatimaan Express has been fixed at Rs. 690, while for Executive Class it is Rs. 1,365.  Passengers of the Gatimaan Express will not only be ushered to their seats by Rail hostesses who offered roses at the entrance but also give free access to multimedia content. Both Indian and continental cuisine are served to passengers in this special premium train. Passengers are served with whole wheat upma, mini dosa, Kanjeevaram idli, fresh cut fruits, aloo kulcha, swiss roll, roasted dry fruits and chicken roll. Chicken sausages with Spanish egg white omelette and date walnut slice cakes also being served in the bone China cutlery.

There was a time, I had experienced in the past, when going to Shahjahan’s city from Akbar’s city to see the ‘Mohabbat ki nishani’ Taj Mahal, was a daunting task. However, with the start of this high-tech train, a visit to this world wonder doesn’t seem taxing anymore. With the launch of the Gatimaan Express, a three and half hours journey cut into 100 minutes. Kudos to Indian Railways for this achievement. Wi Fi facility is provided for Android mobile and laptop users inside this train are awesome. One can really enjoy the trip to Agra with all comfort and return by night to Delhi and plan their next outing in the vicinity without stress to the body.
