The animal and its owner were booked under charges that carry a two to seven-year jail term.

The animal was accused of jumping over the bureaucrat’s Iron Gate and grazing on flowers and vegetables from the garden. “The peon who maintains the garden had warned the owner of the goat many times. So he filed a complaint and we arrested the goat and its owner,” said Assistant Sub-Inspector R. Srivastava.

Following the complaint, police first arrested the goat and later summoned Hassan to the police station. The goat along with its owner was produced before the court on Tuesday, Feb 9.

The animal was later granted bail.

The goat’s owner was also arrested and booked for ‘mischief’ and ‘criminal trespass’. The court is expected to take a decision on the case on Tuesday afternoon.
