GST to bring long term benefits for India though it is facing teething problems and hurdles at the moment. GST is a major revolution as far as indirect taxation is concerned and the system would take some time before it becomes full proof. Government should not be bothered with criticism it is facing at the moment as taxation when simplified does take time for people to understand when various levies are brought under one tax.
Too many cooks spoil the broth is a famous proverb and too many taxes too gives people to dodge the tax authorities and many litigations open up in the bargain. GST literally gives no opportunity to evade taxes and I am sure tax slabs for most items would come down in future when govt revenues go up in GST tax collections which would benefit citizens in the years to come. Trial and error method has made GST look controversial at times but the system is being improved at every opportunity which is what matters the most!
