The devil is using all kinds of tactics today to turn people away from God. He is using the print and the electronic media. Newspapers carry all types of filth, including nude and semi-nude photographs of men and women. And grown-ups, including little children keep looking at them with filthy minds. Television channels too keep airing filthy programmes all throughout the day. When the devil cannot stop people from praying, he uses the print and the electronic media to make them sin. The whole design of Satan is to devour and destroy souls (1 Peter, Chapter 5, verse 8).
It has been Lucifer’s plan right from the time the world was created to gradually unite this entire world into a One World Government that would reject its Creator and worship him instead. The extent of his (Lucifer’s) lies is beyond imagination and so his desires for the total destruction of man are inevitable. And, if man can learn how to bring down electricity from the sky and harness its energy, how much more could Satan, a supernatural being, who is even called the Prince of the Power of the Air (Ephesians, Chapter 2, verse 2), able to cause destructive storms into people’s lives.
The origin of lies traces back to Lucifer (Genesis, Chapter 3, verse 4). In Isaiah, Chapter 14, verses 12 to15, we read: “How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven; I will exalt my throne above the stars of God. I will also sit upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the Most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell to the sides of the pit.”
Lucifer did not at once reveal his covetousness; he did it gradually and subtly until he was able to win over one third of the angels in Heaven. If he had exposed all of his plans to the Universe where sin and rebellion at that time were not known, he would not have gained much support.
The devil brings in various problems into our lives. He makes us to suffer, spoils our peace and makes us live in total confusion. The peace that we have today doesn’t exist tomorrow. Prayer and fasting is very important to overcome the works of the devil. The more we fast and pray, the more the works of the devil will get destroyed. When prayer decreases, the works of the devil increases. When prayer increases, the works of the devil gets destroyed. Last, but not least, I would like to highlight how television has become the centre of our lives. Watching television should be restricted only to news, sports, nature and history channels. In the words of Fr. Padre Pio, a saint of our times: “The devil resides in that (television).”
