Contrary to what the Opposition would have the country believe, Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan on Monday said that interests of the farmers and consumers were high on government’s agenda as he informed that significant improvement had been made in food grain management and consumer welfare during Modi government’s first year in office.
An official release by the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution quoted Paswan as saying that the government has taken a number of initiatives to improve food grain management during last one year.
Informing of the measures, it said that additional storage capacity of more than 43,480 lakh MTs has been created in remote areas especially in North East to keep the food grains allocation in advance at least for three months.
The NDA government’s first year has come under severe attack from the Opposition, mainly the Congress, who alleged that the Modi government was focussed more on corporates and was working on an ‘anti-farmer’ and ‘anti-poor’ agenda.
