Marathi blockbuster “Sairat”, a doomed love story, is all set to be remade in four southern languages. The remake rights have been acquired by popular producer Rockline Venkatesh.

“Venkatesh will jointly produce the southern remakes with the producers of the original. The casting process will begin in a few weeks and the makers plan to go on the floors in August,” a source close to Venkatesh told a news portal.

Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Nagaraj Manjule, “Sairat” is said to be one of the highest grossing films in Marathi industry. The film’s lead pair Rinku Rajguru and Akash Thosar won over audiences and critics alike with their performances.

Sairat has become a worldwide phenomenon, thanks to its box office success. Shattering all previous records of Marathi industry, this love story emerged as the biggest blockbuster hit of all time. The film earned over Rs. 80 crore in India in its five-week run and now it is all set to beat the record of Shah Rukh Khan’s “Fan.”

Talking about its overseas earnings, “Sairat” opened to houseful response when released at the UAE-GCC box office in May. “Sairat” became the first Marathi film to get a theatrical release in the Gulf region.

The film also got a good release at the U.S. box office along with its India release. In five weeks, “Sairat” minted Rs. 14.58 lakh ($ 21,737) from just four screens. Apart from creating magic at the box office, videos of moviegoers dancing on “Zingaat” song from “Sairat” movie in the theatre in the U.S. has also been rounds on social media.

“Sairat” is a love story in the backdrop of caste discrimination. The film, which features Rinku and Akash in the lead roles, has been received well by all and is setting new benchmarks at the box office for all the new releases.
