The bail granted to Lt. Col Shrikant Prasad Purohit has raised questions about the manner in which shoddy investigations were conducted to conceal the truth. The investigations carried out by ATS and NIA reveals contradictory reports which have further weakened the Malegaon bomb blast case. Opposition party leaders said that the government is trying to politicise this issue by giving it a religious colour. According to them, action must be taken against accused irrespective of the religion they belong to. They also added that this case must be investigated thoroughly to ascertain the truth.
When AV spoke to Brinda Karat, CPI (M) politburo member and Rajya Sabha MP she said, “It’s very unfortunate that after the Modi government came to power bail is being granted to culprits in the Malegaon bomb blasts case. This is a politically motivated decision. The public prosecutor has issued a statement that NIA Delhi is imposing pressure on them. Karkare had done hard work to gather evidence but they are destroying it. Thus injustice is being meted against him.”
Justice BG Kolse Patil retired judge of Bombay High Court said, “The government has not presented concrete evidence before the court. Even though Modi had committed several crimes but no action has been taken against him due to lack of evidence. The tape recorded conversation between Sadhvi Pragya and Purohit to conduct bomb blast at various part of the county by using RDX has been destroyed. Court can deliver verdict based on proper evidence provided by the investigating agency. It is unfair to conduct two investigations. Bomb blast incidents and Anna Hazare’s agitation is responsible for the BJP coming to power in the country.”
Congress Rajya Sabha MP, Husain Dalwai said, “I don’t look into Hindu or Muslim terrorism and I will only comment about terrorism. BJP should not teach nationalism to citzens. This nation follows the principles of Gandhi and not the views of Savarkar. Karkare had done a good work and he was not working under pressure. It’s unfortunate that he has passed away as he had made several revelations which would have affected the outcome of the case.”
Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik said, “We have faith in Indian judiciary. I would like to congratulate Lt col Purohit as bail has been granted to him after 9 years. The court had delivered judgement on the basis of the evidence provided by the investigating agency.
Advocate Abbas Kazmi said, “The bail granted to Purohit has not be delivered on merit but due to inefficiency of ATS and NIA. NIA is working on the pressure of central govt.”
Former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said, “I can’t comment about the verdict issued by the court. I can only say that achche din has arrived for Sanatan ideologists and Hindu terrorism.”
Advocate Majeed Memon and NCP Rajya Sabha MP said, “The two special investigating agencies ATS and NIA have investigated 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case. Both have moved in different directions and are making contradictory claims. One of them is bound to be false. This contradiction in such a sensitive terror incident has made a mess of investigation resulting in gross miscarriage of justice.”
