False rape cases against men rising

False rape cases, Rape caseThe incidences of women filing false cases against men are increasing in India. Prior to the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape incident, very few women used to report about rape cases. After this incident, there was a sharp increase in women filing rape cases against men. Moreover, there was a surge in false rape cases being registered against men. As per a National Crime Records Bureau, a total of 38,947 rape cases were reported in India in 2016. In 10,068 cases about a quarter of the women claimed it was rape on the false promise of marriage. Around 45 per cent of all rape cases filed in 2014 and 2015 belonged to false marriage category.

Actor Anant Mahadevan said, “There are always two sides to a coin. It is very difficult to comment and each case is different. It really depends on the facts present in each case. We can’t generalise whether it is a man or a woman. Most of the time men are on the wrong side of the law. However, there might be a stray case of woman trying to take advantage of this. There is always an exception to the rule. Unfortunately, men are majorly responsible for these cases. Anybody who files a false complaint whether a man or woman it is wrong and it should be rectified.”

Man and woman enter into a consensual relationship. When he fails to keep the promise of marriage, woman files a false case of rape against him. In many cases, parents file false rape cases to simply conceal the shame of unmarried daughter having sex. Parents filing false rape cases are encouraged by the fact that rape victim’s identity is concealed.

Advocate Monica Arora said, “There are uses and misuses of every law. Lawmakers and police must ensure that the law is not misused against an innocent person. No innocent must get punished. The facts and circumstances of every case in #MeToo movement are different. Sexual harassment at workplace is happening.”

“Any woman speaking against sexual harassment is terminated from service. Women have started speaking about sexual harassment after the advent of social media and #MeToo movement. Many people who used to trouble women have been exposed. On the other hand, there are other women who are filing false complaint to blackmail and extort money. Such women should be exposed. If police and court do their work properly, the misuse of law can be prevented,” she added.

Justice B.G Kolse Patil said, “Every law is misused in the world. If false atrocity cases are not filed then atrocity law would have worked better. Whenever a law is framed it is misused more. Action must be taken against women filing false complaints.”

As per a Delhi Commission of Women report, 53.2 per cent of rape cases filed in the capital between April 2013 and July 2014 were found to be false. Fast Track Courts in Delhi constantly deal with complaints of fake rape cases. Another report from Jaipur Police says that there has been a significant rise in rape cases filed in the city in 2016. The Jaipur Police registered 330 rape cases solved 276 cases and 43 per cent turned out to be fake. According to the police, the main intention behind women filing this case is to extort money or implicate the accused. There are also cases where women have filed rape cases several years after the incident has occurred. The number of such cases has increased due to society’s permissiveness and women wanting to explore sexual relationships.

Here are some of the rape cases which have turned out to be false:-

Bollywood actor Shiney Ahuja was sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment by a fast track sessions court for raping his maid despite the victim turning hostile during the trial. The maid had backtracked from her allegations that Shiney had raped her at his residence in Mumbai and said the incident had never occurred. The girl informed the court that she had filed case against Shiney at the behest of the woman who had secured her the job of a maid in Shiney’s residence. Shiney was granted bail in 2011 on a cash bond of Rs 50,000 by the Bombay High Court.

In 2004 model Preeti Jain accused filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar of rape and filed a complaint with the Versova Police station. She alleged that Bhandarkar had raped her 16 times between 1999 to 2004 by promising to cast her in his films. Preeti also alleged that the filmmaker had promised to marry and produced SMS texts where he had repeatedly asked for sexual favours. In 2011, the police filed a report and claimed that cases filed against the actor were maliciously false. Preeti later decided against pursuing the case and she was even arrested for hiring a contract killer to murder Bhandarkar.

Last year a complaint was filed by producer Vinta Nanda against Bollywood actor Alok Nath accusing him of raping her. She also accused the actor of sexual harassment and rape in a detailed Facebook post. Alok Nath denied the charge and also filed a defamation case against her. The Sessions Court observed that the rape case against Alok Nath was filed on the basis of defamatory and false report of complainant Vinta Nanda. A pre-arrest bail was granted to the actor. Additional Sessions Court judge said the rape complaint filed by Vinta is a personal vendetta.

Actor-singer Karan Oberoi was arrested for allegedly raping and blackmailing a woman in Oshiwara. The woman had filed a complaint that the actor was in a relationship with her since 2016 and allegedly raped her on the pretext of marrying her. Actress Pooja Bedi started a campaign in support of the actor. According to Pooja, the woman has been misusing laws by filing false cases against men. She believes that the FIR is a vendetta against Karan. Pooja wondered while the complainant had alleged rape occurred in January 2017 she has been sending messages to him and asking for sexual favours in 2017 and 2018.

Here are the celebrities who have been exposed as a part of #MeToo movement in India but charges are yet to be proved against them.

Chetan Bhagat – Author Chetan Bhagat got himself embroiled in the movement when a woman shared screenshots of WhatsApp conversations between them. The author later tendered an apology on Facebook.

Kailash Kher – A female journalist accused singer Kailash Kher of harassment. Kailash nonetheless issued a statement in his defence, “For all those who know me and have come across me, will know how much I respect humanity, especially women, even more for the ones who work in media since their work is difficult.”

Utsav Chakraborty – Young girls accused Utsav Chakraborthy of sending vulgar messages requesting topless photos.

Rajat Kapoor – Actor Rajat Kapoor has been called out for alleged sexual harassment on Twitter with two women accusing him of indecent behavior.

Nana Patekar- Actress Tanushree Dutta took the industry by storm when she accused Nana Patekar of sexually harassing her 10 years ago on the set of her film Horn Ok Please.

False rape cases have taken many male lives in India

Recently, a TV actor and singer Karan Oberoi was arrested for raping a woman under the pretext of marriage and filming the act and also threatening her for money; the case is in the court, two hearings are done and now third to continue in coming time. There are people who strongly believe that a woman has falsely implicated him and in spite of all the proofs, no justice is done to him. Well! Something strange is going on in India. Women are becoming more educated and confident. Pre-marital sex is on the rise – but at the same time, so are the numbers of women alleging rape on false promise of marriage. Much mention have been made mostly by men of false rape accusations and how frequently they occur. Falsely accusing a person of sexual assault is nearly as appalling as sexual assault itself. It inflicts psychic, familial, reputational and professional harms that can last a lifetime. This is nothing to scoff at.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau, a total of 38,947 rape cases were reported in India in 2016. In 10,068 cases – about a quarter of the women claimed it was rape on false promise of marriage. In Andhra Pradesh, 45 per cent of all rape cases filed in the past two years fell into the false marriage category. In 2014, several newspapers of India have covered the data of Delhi Commission of Women (DCW), which states that 53.2 per cent of the rape cases in Delhi, filed between April 2013 and July 2014 were found to be ‘false’. When a relationship ends, women who have had consensual sex (sometimes flirtation but no sex), make false complaints of rape under the promise of marriage out of vengefulness, to hurt the man or they do it to extort money out of him, promising to withdraw the charge if he gives them what they want or just to damage a man, leaving no right to dignity for him. There can be any reason behind such cases but the one who gets convicted, loses almost everything. Perhaps that can be the motive too.

In many cases, false rape accusations are simply the result of parents covering up the “shame” of an unmarried daughter having sex. When parents discover their unmarried daughters are in a sexual relationship, their horror at potential “dishonour” to the family name leads many to make spurious allegations of rape, having first bullied their children into submission. By their logic, saying a daughter has been raped is preferable to people thinking she is sexually active. Time and again, it was the same story: the victim had been picked up in a moving car, given a drink laced with tranquilisers to render her oblivious, and raped. Or the guy got in relation, asked for nude pictures, filmed the act and dumped her for another prospect. You go to any police station or court or lawyer, you will find thousands of such similar cases. The recurrence of the sedative-laced drink seemed striking. This allegation is important because it is necessary to show that consent was not given, to protect the girl’s character. But in this ugly spat, one forgets the reputation of a man, who is not as bad as projected. Same stories can be found in 75 out of 100 such cases. Only the names, dates and locations are different, otherwise they all narrate the story of sedatives and drinks when in fact the girls were in a relationship and willingly having sex. They exchange gifts, have a merry time and do all that mutually, but when he moves on, he becomes rapist; if she moves on and the guy pursues, then too he becomes a stalker or rapist. In both the cases, the hammer is hit on the male’s head. These days, being in a relationship is a very serious crime; you never know what could be the outcome. Marriage and divorces have another stigma; 498A is used as a tool to extort what woman wants. Most of the divorce cases, the men are merely subjected to all sorts of cruelty. This is how our laws are, they are made to protect womanhood but the modern woman has made them an instrument to seek revenge. Visit any family court you will see those men who are actually shattered from all the sides, stand as losers but woman with vendetta pretends to be the innocent victim. Not all the cases are like this but yes, most of them are.

Men’s rights groups and some lawyers believe these false allegations of rape by women who have been in consensual relationships trivialize the seriousness of rape. They raise plenty of questions, too. Even if a man promised to marry a woman, can he not change his mind? How can judges determine a man’s sincerity or falsity in talking of marriage? Even more troubling is that the notion of sex constituting rape if a man “reneges” on a promise of marriage is not in the penal code. It has evolved on a case-by-case basis as a result of judges choosing to interpret the notion of “consent” in this fashion. As a consequence, men can be charged with rape if they falsely obtain consent for sex by promising to marry a woman and then changing their mind. The only solace for men who have been falsely accused is that many of these cases are thrown out of court. The Supreme Court ruling last month, for example, related to a nurse at a government hospital in Maharashtra. She was a widow who fell in love with a doctor and moved in with him. After living together for some years, he left her and married someone else. The judges said that having lived with the man for some years, the nurse could not allege rape. They pointed out that it was possible the doctor, on account of circumstances he could not have foreseen or could not control, was not able or willing to marry her. Whatever the reason, it was not rape. The doctor was acquitted. However, between the arrest and the acquittal lies much distress. I have come across many shattered men. Their trust in human relationships is destroyed. They withdraw into a shell, not knowing who they can trust and they are very frightened of embarking on another relationship. I have seen those men who lost faith in living life while languishing in jail for no reason, under trial cell is another harassment, you cannot imagine this hell until you land there. They die their death every moment, clueless of everything. This is the cruelest abuse before they actually get punished or acquittal.

In India, many men suffered trials being in Jail under the false. In 2014, 25,000 rape cases registered out of which 76 per cent were false. 30,000 molestation cases, but 75 per cent were FALSE. 1,00,000 DV/Dowry cases but 98 per cent were FALSE. Men jailed due to false Dowry cases are more than 11,00,000. Women (mother-in-law, sister-in-law) jailed due to false Dowry cases are more than 5,00,000. Senior citizens and children (below age of 15 years including boys and girls) jailed due to false Dowry cases are more than 2,00,000. Male suicides due to DV and DOWRY CASES are more than 85,000 every year. Male suicides due to FALSE Rape CASES are more than 10,000 every year. Male suicides due to false molestation cases are 3,500 every year. India reports maximum male suicides one man/8minutes compared to one woman/28 minutes. These figures are just in police records. Our society and media are very much focused on women harassment cases. What about when a man is harassed? How long are we going to be gender biased?

Controversy chasing Sadhvi Pragya: Now Nathuram Godse row after her

Sadhvi-pragya-singh

Controversial BJP candidate from Bhopal Sadhvi Pragya Singh has stoked yet another controversy and said that Nathuram Godse was a patriot and will remain so. While BJP distanced itself from her statement, opposition parties strongly condemned it.

BJP condemns and asks her to apologise

BJP leader GVL Narasimha Rao said, “BJP does not agree with her statement, we condemn it. Party will ask her for clarification, she should apologise publicly for this statement.”

The Madhya Pradesh BJP also distanced itself from the statement. “The party will talk to her under which circumstances she gave the statement. One who killed Mahatma Gandhi can’t be a deshbhakt,” state BJP media cell in-charge Lokendra Parashar told PTI.

If Godse a patriot, is Mahatma Gandhi anti-national: Omar Abdullah

National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Thursday attacked Pragya Singh Thakur, the BJP’s Lok Sabha candidate from Bhopal, for terming Nathuram Godse, who assassinated Mahatma Gandhi, a “patriot”.

“If the killer of the father of the nation is a patriot does that make Mahatma Gandhi anti-national?” Abdullah said in a tweet, though he did not name Thakur.

Several controversies ever since released in Malegaon blast case

Sadhvi Pragya Singh stirred many controversies ever since she was released in the Malegaon blast case. After being declared BJP candidate from Bhopal, Sadhvi Pragya Singh said that she had cursed Maharashtra ATS chief Hemant Karkare when she was in jail. He died in firing during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack due to that. She also invited trouble when she said that she herself had climbed on top of the Babri Masjid to demolish the mosque and was very proud of it.

Sadhvi Pragya Singh was reacting to actor turned politician Kamal Haasan’s recent comment that the first terrorist in India was a Hindu. At an election rally, the Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) founder Kamal Haasan had said, “Free India’s first terrorist was Nathuram Godse. He killed Mahatma Gandhi.

People like Kamal Haasan will be given a befitting reply

When asked about Kamal Haasan’s comment on Hindu terrorist, Sadhvi Pragya said, “Nathuram Godse was a deshbhakt (patriot), is a deshbhakt and will remain a deshbhakt. People calling him a terrorist should introspect. Such people will be given a befitting reply in these elections.”

It is worth mentioning that Kamal Haasan’s remark stirred a massive controversy. The BJP lodged a complaint with the Election Commission (EC) against this remark. A criminal complaint was also lodged against Kamal Haasan. Later on, Kamal Haasan gave a clarification and said that he was misquoted. He never said the word “terrorist”. Kamal Haasan has filed an anticipatory bail petition, seeking quashing of the FIR against him.

Delhi court takes cognizance of complaint against Kamal Haasan

A Delhi court on Thursday took cognisance of a complaint against actor-politician Kamal Haasan for allegedly hurting religious sentiments by terming Nathuram Godse, who killed Mahatma Gandhi, a “Hindu extremist”. Metropolitan Magistrate Sumeet Anand posted the matter for August 2 when the statement of complainant Vishnu Gupta will be recorded. The complainant has sought Haasan’s prosecution for alleged offences punishable under Indian Penal Code sections 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on ground of religion, race, language, etc) and 295-A (outrage religious feelings by insulting religion etc). The offences are punishable with three-year imprisonment or fine, or both.

Indian politics should not be like India vs Pakistan: Sukhbir Badal

Shiromani Akali Dal president Sukhbir Badal has expressed concern about political discourse hitting a new low in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. He said that politics should not become an “India versus Pakistan” situation.

However, Sukhbir Badal hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a decisive and strong prime minister. Sukhbir Badal said that he is the only choice to steer the NDA after the Lok Sabha election results.

In an interview to PTI, Badal said, “We need a strong prime minister. After so many years we got a prime minister who is decisive. You can’t let the country run on auto mode. We need a leader who can take the country on the path of faster growth.”

He also expressed his concerns about personal attacks against leaders in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. He said, “We politicians are not enemies. We are not like India-Pakistan. Politics should not be like India versus Pakistan. Unfortunately, it is becoming like that. Everyone has their own views but still, we are all Indians and the interest of the country is important for us. There may be a platform where we may have to be together against a common enemy.”

When asked if the NDA might need new partners after the results and demand a change of leadership, he said, “People are voting for Modi and he is the right person to lead the country. I think we should stick with him after the results. He is the only choice.”

It is remarkable that Sukhbir Badal is contesting Lok Sabha elections after 15 years as the SAD-BJP candidate from the Ferozepur Lok Sabha constituency. It will go to polls on May 19 in the last round of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections. There are 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab. The SAD is contesting 10 seats, while the BIP is fighting on three seats.

Sukhbir Badal lashed out at the Captain Amarinder Singh government. He said that the biggest issue in the state is non-performance of the Congress government, which has failed on all fronts. He said that CM Amarinder Singh is the most incompetent chief minister in the country. In Punjab, there is a very strong sentiment against him. He doesn’t travel through the state. Taking on the Gandhi family, he described them as a liability for the Congress in the state.

Importance of communication in our lives

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day will be celebrated on May 17. This year, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day, which has been celebrated annually since 1969. It is said that “Communication is the real work of leadership and any sufficiently advanced technology is equivalent to the magic.” In November 2005, the World’s governments took a meeting on Information Society called upon the UN General Assembly to declare May 17 as World Information Society Day. It is to highlight the role of Information and Communication Technology in today’s world. This day was declared to focus on the importance of ICT and the wide range of issues related to the Information SocietyWorld Telecommunication and Information Society Day is even celebrated by organisations like UNESCO, with a different theme every year. Prior to World Information Society Day, people and organisations such as ITU celebrated World Telecommunication Day, which was first held in 1969, on May 17. The arrival of new horizons in the fields of telecommunications and information technology has taken mankind into the realms hitherto unknown to him.  Thus it also means to celebrate the creation of development-oriented, and people-centred information society, which is a basic human right.

The purpose of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day is to help raise awareness of the possibilities that the use of the Internet and other information and communication technologies can bring to societies and economies, as well as of ways to bridge the digital divide. World Telecommunication Day has been celebrated marking the founding anniversary of International Telecommunications Union (ITU) which was founded in 1865. Though the International Telegraph Union has since changed its name to International Telecommunications Union, it still remains the most important entity in the field of communications, thus remaining in the spotlight at World Telecommunications Day. There are several ways of communication available such as letters, telephones, mobiles, telegraphs but the internet is widely used for communication and spreading or collecting information. The use of the internet and other Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) can bring societies, economies as well as one of the ways to bridge the digital divide. A positive relationship exists between economic development and infrastructure investment, including telecommunications in particular. Even with a strong positive correlation between telecommunications investment, it alone is not sufficient to ensure economic growth. However, the lack of telecommunication investment can prohibit or significantly constrain economic development. The world is rapidly moving toward an economic system based on the continuous and ubiquitous availability of information. Recent advances in telecommunications technology have been an important vehicle in permitting information exchange to develop as a valuable commodity. The adoption of wireless communication and information technology is an encouraging option and need of the hour for the students is to carry on higher studies in the present scenario of the competitive world. Telecommunications infrastructure investment and the derived services provide significant benefits; their presence allows productive units to produce better. Telecommunications policies affect not only telecommunications, but also the economic development and social, cultural, and political growth.

The theme focuses on the power of Big Data for development and aims to explore how to turn imperfect, complex, and often unstructured data into actionable information in the context of development. The celebration of this day increases awareness of the positive communication technology among people. It has the purpose to make the information and communication accessible easily to more people in remote and rural areas. Let us spread awareness of the importance of communication in our lives, to educate people on how communication affects and exists in our lives.

Three JeM terrorists, civilian, soldier killed in Pulwama encounter

pulwama encounter

Three Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM) terrorists, a civilian and a soldier were killed on Thursday in an encounter in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. Army said that the encounter started during wee hours of Thursday.

A police official said that security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Delipora village of Pulwama district on a credible information about presence of terrorists there. He said that the hiding ultras opened firing on the search party, who retaliated.

An army official said that three terrorists were killed in the gun battle while a soldier and a civilian also lost his life in the operation. During encounter total three army men were also injured, one of them succumbed to his injuries later. The identity and group affiliation of the slain terrorists was being ascertained.

A civilian, believed to be the son of the house owner, was also killed and his brother wounded during the gunfight. The deceased civilian was identified as Rayees Dar and his injured brother as Younis Dar. After the encounter the authorities suspended Internet services in Pulwama. It is a common government practice, aimed to calm tensions and prevent anti-India demonstrations from being organised.

Authorities also imposed curfew in main town Pulwama as a precautionary measure. According to intelligence inputs, a top commander of JeM, who masterminded the 2017 attack on a CRPF camp, was believed to be among those trapped in the security forces’ cordon.

West Bengal: Challenger vs Ruler

Amidst the ongoing Lok Sabha elections 2019 going on in multiple phases, it is one state that has attracted all the eyeballs, West Bengal. However, poll violence is not new to this state but surely the desperate measures being taken by the parties when the state actually seems into a transition phase again as far as the center stage of the power is concerned. The first phase was the Leftist parties taking over from the erstwhile Congress. Secondly, Trinamool Congress taking over from Left, and now it’s BJP which is trying to take it over from TMC. All these phases had seen desperate measures being taken by both the sides and this time is not an exception.

The current political fight and desperation from both the leadership and its leaders and cadres, BJP and TMC show their desperation and it indicates that Mamata is taking the challenge thrown by BJP actually very seriously and the BJP is seriously confident about its chances as well. However, the way these parties are taking each other head-on, it’s increasingly becoming interesting and bloody as well. We have seen a large scale of poll violence in Bengal in the recent elections which actually breaks the myth that only Left parties were violent with its ideology and actions. The fact of the matter is that violent elements are part of the society and they love to be in power. Whichever party is there in the power these elements join them and ideology means nothing to them.

The same has happened with TMC since it took over from left. The same violent cadres who once used to be a part of the left and perpetrated violence against TMC and Congress are very much part of TMC. And today the main challenger is BJP so more clashes are happening between them. We have seen many BJP workers being killed, many BJP leaders attacked (including its party president on Tuesday). Actually, the fight is not ideological, it’s all about power. The same Mamata Banerjee, who used to cry foul over illegal migrants issue and even demonstrated her anger in the Parliament, is the biggest saviour of them today and openly supports their permanent citizenship. The same Mamata Banerjee, who used to speak against violence by the Left, is today defending this violence against BJP. The same Mamata Banerjee, who used to cry foul over the independence of Institutions, today doesn’t shy away from attacking them when it comes to her own political interest or saving her own people. Be it CBI, Customs or Central forces for that matter. The same Mamata Banerjee, who used to be a champion of freedom of expression, had jailed one professor of Jadhavpur University over a cartoon of hers and three days back a BJYM convener over a meme of herself. In fact, the procedures of her arrest were not followed by the rules and when her remand was challenged in the Supreme Court Kolkata police is learnt to have disposed the charges silently and didn’t even inform the Supreme Court. The same Mamata Banerjee, who tried to become the champion of democracy, denied rally permission to many top BJP leaders, its President, and even some fellow Chief Ministers of other states. Bengal has witnessed many such instances and Amit Shah was again denied the permission just two days back — all these amidst the LS elections which is the largest festival of democracy. It shows that she has taken the challenge of BJP very seriously and considers them as a threat to her chair.

BJP at the same time, despite all these incidents, doesn’t seem to be giving up. More such attempts and more aggressive they go in the next step and more desperate measures by TMC in response. The latest example was the road show of Amit Shah on Tuesday in Kolkata. As reports suggest that it was one of the biggest road shows held in Kolkata in recent times and Mamata was challenged in her home turf by the top leadership of the BJP. Somehow, it was unacceptable to either Mamata or her cadres. While the roadshow was going peacefully and was passing by Calcutta University’s College Street campus, the members of TMC attacked the convoy with bricks and sticks. It is evident from the video and picture proofs that they were inside the campus of Vidyasagar College. The BJP workers also responded and threw stones and sticks on them from outside. The Police used the force outside to disperse the BJP cadres. Later on, it was found that during the clashes, the statue of Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was broken by miscreants inside the campus. Both sides blamed each other’s cadres for the incident.

However, the fact seems to be something different. The statue was placed inside Bidhan Sarani Campus of Vidyasagar College inside a room. To get the entry, one needs to get inside two gates. The main iron gate of the campus which was guarded by police and locked and then a wooden gate which was also closed. The BJP roadshow was outside on roads and was crossing near the gates. The TMC cadres were inside the campus. Both sides attacked each other but who had access to the statue? There was CCTV surveillance at the statue but no proofs have been provided by the police or the state government that who actually broke it? It seems that it was a planned attack and an attempt to relate this issue to Bengal pride and identity. Nothing more to guess if we think logically but we can reach to the conclusion only after the proof reveals it and the onus lies on the local police and government. After all, this several BJP leaders along with Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga were arrested from their hotel rooms in midnight without any charges. The statements that came from TMC and local leaders were that many outsider BJP leaders are camping there for the elections. Many from Delhi, UP, Bihar, and Gujarat and they all will be sent back to their states and they are not allowed to camp there. It’s an irony of TMC that they think that they are not a part of India and other states leaders cannot come to promote their party in the elections. Don’t think that any such bizarre comments might have come from any other states political party or leaders. It’s a national general election and the leaders are free to campaign in any state until and unless they are violating any electoral rules. So much for democracy? It seems the challenger has really made the ruler worried in Bengal.

People’s Mandate may go to…

Mumbai Lok Sabha election results, Milind Deora, 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Eknath Gaikwad , Priya Dutt, Poonam Mahajan , Manoj Kotak ,Urmila Matondkar , Sanjay Nirupam, The final polling for the seventh phase is due on May 19. Counting of votes for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections will take place on May 23. Therefore, the eyes of the entire nation are on the results, which will be declared the same day. After bitter and acrimonious campaigns, all parties and political analysts have also started calculations. The anticipation of possible winners is in full swing. Exit-polls are waiting for the end of the voting process. In the evening of May 19, the picture will be clear, when these Exit-polls will be telecasted.

Mumbai went to polls on April 29 in the fourth phase of elections in Maharashtra. In 2014, riding on the Narendra Modi-wave, the BJP-Shiv Sena combine wrested all six seats in the city. Mumbai had been a traditional stronghold of the Congress.  In 2009, the Congress-NCP swept all the seats. The Congress won five seats and NCP one last time. However, in 2014, BJP and Shiv Sena won three seats each. This time the situation is quite tough. There is no Modi-wave and the prospects of the Congress’s come back are bright.

According to confident sources, in Mumbai South constituency, there is neck to neck fight between veteran Shiv Sena leader Arvind Sawant and the Mumbai Congress chief Milind Deora. Arvind Sawant is a strong Trade Union Leader. He has strong support in the area. It is very difficult to defeat him. In 2014, he got 3,74,609 votes, while Milind Deora could manage only 2,45,850 votes. Thus, he defeated Milind Deora over 1.28 lakh votes. However, this time, personalities like the chairman and managing director of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Mukesh Ambani have extended full support to Milind Deora, he can win from this seat. Similarly, in Mumbai South Central, sitting MP of Shiv Sena Rahul Shewale is facing a tough fight. Veteran Congress leader Eknath Gaikwad may come back from Mumbai South Central seat. In Mumbai North Central, Poonam Mahajan of BJP is facing off Priya Dutt. The Congress’s former MP from this seat can possibly register victory here.

In conversation with Afternoon Voice, Shiv Sena sitting MP Arvind Sawant alike all other contestants claimed his victory. As a seasoned leader, he said, “Arvind Sawant is going to win from Mumbai South.” When asked about the support of Mukesh Ambani to the Congress Candidate Milind Deora, he counter-questioned if Mukesh Ambani had bought people. He said that it is not possible. Let us wait till May 23 for election results and everything will be clear.

Sources say that in Mumbai North East, the prospects of the BJP Corporator Manoj Kotak are better. He is fighting against NCP’s Sanjay Dina Patil, who was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2009. Here, due to the strong objection of Shiv Sena, BJP dropped its sitting MP Kirit Somaiya and fielded Manoj Kotak in the fray. In Mumbai North West, the former Mumbai Congress Chief Sanjay Nirupam can possibly defeat sitting Shiv Sena MP Gajanan Kirtikar. The actor turned politician Urmila Matondkar of the Congress is giving a very tough fight to BJP’s sitting MP Gopal Shetty (BJP) in Mumbai North. After her political debut, Urmila Matondkar faced tremendous trolling and personal attacks over her religion as she got married to a younger Muslim Mohsin Akhtar Mir. According to sources, if the ‘Rangeela’ actress defeats Gopal Shetty, there will be no surprise.

Sanjay Dina Patil of NCP also claimed that he is going to win from Mumbai North East. In absence of Kirit Somaiya in poll fray, he appeared a little tension-free. He said that he is not contesting election to lose. Perhaps, he forgot that in 2014, he had contested and lost the election. Sanjay Dina Patil said, “Don’t be impatient and wait for election results.”

BJP’s sitting MP from Mumbai North Gopal Shetty said, “I am going to win by a large margin of votes, I am confident of the victory. This margin will be bigger than that of last time. When asked by how much votes he expects to defeat his Congress rival Urmila Matondkar, he replied, “For this, wait till May 23.”

It is worth mentioning that in 2009 Milind Deora (Congress) had defeated Mohan Rawale (Shiv Sena) from Mumbai South. Veteran leader Eknath Gaikwad (Congress) defeated Suresh Gambhir (Shiv Sena) from Mumbai South Central. In Mumbai, North Central Priya Dutt (Congress) had defeated Mahesh Jethmalani (BJP). Sanjay Dina Patil (NCP) defeated Kirit Somaiya (BJP) from Mumbai North East. In Mumbai, North West Gurudas Kamat (Congress) defeated Gajanan Kirtikar (Shiv Sena) and in Mumbai, North Sanjay Nirupam (Congress) had defeated Ram Naik (BJP), who is the Governor of UP at present.

New government should handle 5 international and one human-right issues

The Center has military whereas States (Provinces) have police as sanctioned-coercion apparatus of Indian State. Hence, Federalism demands that only martial and human right matters belong to Union/Center and all civilian matters to States (Provinces). Unfortunately, the 2019 Parliament election in India is conspicuous by the absence of the discussion on martial/international matters. It is hoped that at-least new government at Center will handle the five international issues/problems of Kashmir, US-Iran conflict, Syria, etc. in NAME, Israel-Palestine, UN transformation, and one most important human-rights issue of poverty removal as given below:

1) As far as solving the chronic and gory Kashmir problem, it should be solved by plebiscite.

2) The current most burning international issue of Iran – US conflict [which is the most important issue for India due to India’s intimate friendship with both USA and Iran and India’s dependence on Iranian oil (on better terms) and Chabahar port] should be solved by India by offering its nukes for complete denuclearization. India should demand that nuclear ‘Weapons of Mass Destruction’ (WMDs) of all the nuclear powers (five permanent members of UN and India, Pakistan, Israel, North Korea, etc.) should be handed over to UN authorities for ultimate destruction and UN should ensure that no country is able to develop new nuclear WMDs.

3) The solution to the problem in Syria etc. in NAME region (where millions of people are bleeding and weeping profusely) is not rocket science and it can easily be solved by carrying out elections in Syria under supervision of ‘UN Election Commission’ (UNEC) under a secular constitution. India should offer personnel (military and civil in millions whatever needed) for ‘UN Peace Keeping Force’ (UNPKF) and for UNEC in order to ensure free and fair elections in Syria.

4) India should demand that the chronic and gory Israel-Palestine problem should be solved by the one-State solution for both Jews and Palestinians and not through an unjust and mischievous two-State solution, as reported.

5) Due to unprecedented advance in modern science and technology especially in the IT sector, the highly desirable Globalisation is unavoidable. Whereas, in addition to global currency without International-Political-Parties (IPPs, registered at the United Nations), the Globalisation is impossible. Hence:

  • India should work for and demand that in place of veto to five nations, in new UN the voting power should be given to all member countries commensurate with their contribution of men (especially martial), money and material (especially military) and the record about human rights of member countries.
  • India should work for and demand that Optional protocol OP-1 of ICCPR at UN should be replaced with Mandatory Protocol MP-1 in a way that even the citizens of member countries can move UN, against erring members, to protect their human rights (even with a military intervention of UNPKF).
  • India should work for and demand for global currency (with proper asset back-up) with its Central Bank at United Nations and its branches in all the member countries of UN.
  • Many member countries of the UN on their own cannot manage their political affairs and this leads to even global terrorism hence India should work for and demand that IPPs should be launched by the UN.
  • Though Congress party during election campaign raised the issue of poverty removal through NYAY it will create more problems than solving due to payment without consideration as mentioned in various reports.

As far money for material etc. for creating infrastructure and economic assets through this improvised MNREGA the Government of India can retrieve Rs 1,000 lakh crore income tax. This huge revenue of $15 Trillion will not only eliminate poverty and will solve all the economic problems of India (as mentioned also at above S. No 1) but will also make India military and economic superpower befitting top-class world power.

It is hoped that after 2019 Parliamentary election the Union of India will devote itself for solving and addressing above-mentioned issues which are genuinely Union subjects and will stop wasting its time, energy, money and resources on issues which genuinely belong to States (including Municipalities).

IPL final was a close contest

The IPL final between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians was thrilling but one thing in Twenty20 cricket is that it is the bowlers who seem to play a decisive role in a team’s success. It is also a format where losses don’t really wound players’ hearts, which is why there seems to be much bonhomie after a game. Much more serious cricket will be upon us soon in the form of the 50-over World Cup. National teams will be in action, and the passion, the hurt and the anger will be raw.

Revoke Rajiv Gandhi’s Bharat Ratna if he misused INS Virat

It refers to Prime Minister Narender Modi making a shocking disclosure in an election-rally that the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi misused Indian Navy warship INS Virat for holidaying with friends and relations. If it is so, then it is indeed big misuse of power and needs to be condemned through strongest possible measures including snatching of highest civilian honour of Bharat Ratna and renaming all the institutions and others named after him. Congress leaders should also immediately clarify the position.

But such an aspect should have been revealed with subsequent punitive action taken by the central government in the last five years of BJP regime at the centre rather than waiting to make it a poll-issue.
