To curb distribution of alcohol to influence voters during elections in Delhi, the Excise Department has warned liquor shops against selling it on the basis of “coupon or token” in the city.
An official said the department has issued a circular, directing liquor outlets across the national capital to strictly follow opening and closing time of their establishments.
The seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi will go to polls on May 12.
In its circular, the department asked these establishments that all the sale of liquor will be done only through scanner.
According to the official, any violation of the order will be viewed seriously and strict action taken against liquor shops as per the Delhi Excise Act, 2009 and the Delhi Excise Rules 2010.
“Liquor outlets have also been asked to maintain up to date brand-wise stock register. Also, no sale will be done on the basis of coupon or token,” he said.
The circular stated in view of the Lok Sabha polls, the licensee such as L-6 (liquor shops), L-7 (retail vend of Indian liquor in private sector), L-10 (retail vend of Indian liquor to holders of license shopping malls and shopping complex at airport).
The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) office had on March 19 said a total number of 257 FIRs were registered in the Excise Act and 263 persons were arrested in the Act.
“Till date, two litre, 257 bottles, 33,385 quarters of Indian Made Foreign Liquor and 223 bottles, 131 half, 64,908 quarters of country liquor and 412 bottles of beer were seized,” the CEO office said in its statement.
Sale of ‘enemy shares’ and buyback of stocks by CPSEs have together yielded the government over Rs 11,300 crore, thus helping the exchequer mop up Rs 85,000 crore from disinvestment in the current fiscal — the second highest receipt ever.
The government has garnered Rs 700 crore through the first-ever sale of ‘enemy shares’ after the Cabinet in November 2018 gave its go-ahead to the Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) to sell such shares held in companies.
Enemy property refers to the assets left behind by people who migrated to Pakistan or China and are no longer citizens of India.
Besides, over Rs 10,600 crore has come in from the buyback of government shares by Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs).
In 2018-19, the government for the second time in a row exceeded the disinvestment target by mopping up Rs 85,000 crore as against the budget estimate of Rs 80,000 crore.
In 2017-18, the government mopped up a record over Rs 1 lakh crore, against the target of Rs 72,500 crore.
As regards the buybacks, the government has mopped up over Rs 10,600 crore. The companies which bought back the government stake include ONGC, IOC, Coal India, Oil India, and NLC.
For the next fiscal, the government has set a disinvestment target of Rs 90,000 crore.
Online pre-owned good seller Olx, which is backed by over $20-billion Naspers group, will start focussing on monetising its India business after clocking a 10-fold growth, a top company official has said. Also, the online classifieds platform aims to double its monthly active users to 10 crore from the current 5 crore.
Olx India country head Sushil Kumar said, “The focus from investor and our board is of growing India business by at least 10 times and then think about monetisation. If we can deliver value to our investor then money will come as a byproduct. Putting a cap on monetisation will limit our long-term ambition.”
The company reached break-even in the financial year 2018 with profit after tax of around Rs 15 crore.
Olx is still in the investment mode and not focussing on profits, Kumar told agencies.
“At Olx, our focus is not obtaining positive cash flow or profits because that limits our ambition to grow. That has been the philosophy at Olx that look at the opportunity and accordingly do investment. If we find growth opportunity we will continue to invest,” he said.
The focus of the company for the next year is to double car sales business, see a tow-fold rise in monthly active users from 5 crore to 10 crore and grow jobs segment, Kumar noted.
“Olx already has traffic. Aasaanjobs has the experience to find jobs for them (blue collar workers). This is a very vertical which is being heavily promoted today. There is definitely a play in this vertical. Honestly, how we are going to play in this vertical and capture it, we don’t know today,” Kumar said.
Olx acquired Aasaanjobs early this year for a disclosed amount.
Kumar said that Olx will first start to build around its strength to cater to job segment and might look at upskilling the aspirants in blue collar jobs category.
He added that the platform will continue to focus on the sale of pre-owned goods and focus on doubling business in a category where it starts getting traction.
The crucial Lok Sabha polls are just a few days away and the Presidnt Rahul Gandhi-led Congress is all set to corner the BJP-led central government on lower job data and employment crisis in the poll campaign. Party’s manifesto committee member Sam Pitroda has confirmed it asserting that the country was going through a jobs “crisis”.
Pitroda is a long-time Gandhi family adviser and the chief of the Indian Overseas Congress. He also said that agrarian distress is also a major issue facing the country and it needs to be addressed.
Stating how Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is going to make a huge impact in the upcoming polls, Pitroda expressed how the government has failed to create new employment and moreover has eaten into the employment base the nation already had.
He also blamed the induction of demonetisation and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as the reasons that affected employment at large.
Asked how the Congress will bring the narrative back to real issues such as employment and alleged agrarian distress post the Balakot air strikes, he said the party will raise key issues on the ground among people.
Pitroda is part of the 19-member Manifesto Committee set up by the Congress to come out with the party’s manifesto for the general elections. He has worked on the Knowledge Commission and also founded National Innovation Council later during the Congress-led UPA rule.
At the ongoing Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj and at the recently concluded Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention in Varanasi, the Dream Girl of Indian cinema, the super stunning Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament and Padmashree Hema Malini presented her larger than life dance ballet ‘Ganga’.
The gorgeous dancer presented her ballet ‘Ganga’ in presence of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath, and thousands of national and international delegates and ministers. The 90-minute dance drama based on the life of Ganga from its birth till today was marvellously presented by Hema Malini and her team of Natyavihar Kala Kendra. The show was in four parts choreographed by Bhushan Lakandri, music composed by Padmashree Ravindra Jain, Asit Desai and his son Alaap Desai, the songs were rendered by Suresh Wadkar, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Shankar Mahadevan, and Mika Singh, the grand costumes were designed by Neeta Lulla, special effects were by Vibhore Khandelwal and directed by Hema Malini herself.
Hema Malini dressed in sparkling white and silver clothes narrated the age-old story of India’s holiest river. The show touched the parts of birth of Ganga, her purpose of descending on earth, episodes of Ramayana and Mahabharata and finally moving on to the topic of Swatch Ganga and how it is getting polluted.
Part I:
The divine Ganga the one who immerged from the benevolent feet of Lord Vishnu and who resides in the Lord’s precincts Vaikunth Lok is constantly disturbed by the frantic calls of despair emanating from the distant human world. Lord Vishnu reveals to Ganga that the voice of despair belongs to non other than King Bhagirath who seeks her divine decent on earth to help attain moksha of his ancestors, but Ganga who has always resided at the lotus feet of lord Vishnu expresses her unwilliness to depart from Vaikunth and the lord. But the protector of the universe Lord Vishnu asks her vehemently to oblige to the great king and depart on her mission in the world of humans. After all, this was the reason for Ganga’s appearance, reluctantly she leaves for the earth, thunderously coursing her way through the universe. At the behest of Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma tries his utmost to contain Ganga’s powerful flow by obstructing her and trying to confine her in his Kamandal. Brahma fails miserably. Ganga gushes through his Kamandal and flows away nonchalantly in her tempestuous pace. Lord Shiva who is in deep penance in his abode, Mount Kailash senses the arrival of Ganga and knowing that her uncontrollable flow could cause destruction on earth, arrests her in his Jata (matted locks) and restricts her in its confines. Ganga tries to break free but no avail. Lord Brahma emerges and appeals to Lord Shiva to free Ganga so that she can advance on her way to fulfil her mission on earth. Subsequently, Lord Shiva unfolds a single lock of hair and releases Ganga. On encountering the Lord, once released from his locks, Ganga is enchanted at the sight of the mighty Shiva and is completely mesmerized by his divine beauty. Not the one to give in to worldly emotions Lord Shiva soon blesses Ganga and affectionately directs her to set off on her path. Ganga thus leaves Mount Kailash and proceeds to the mundane world.
Part II:
Meanwhile, on Earth, King Himvant is eagerly awaiting the arrival of Ganga. He welcomes her and accepts her as his child. Mother earth is overjoyed and all of nature welcomes Ganga into its fold. Humankind celebrates this joyous moment. King Bhagirath is overwhelmed to witness the outcome of his steadfast penance. Ganga had descended on Earth. Bhagirath reminds her of the reason for her advent on Earth and leads her on a mission of granting Moksha to the souls of his ancestors. Ganga obliges. Once this mission is fulfilled Ganga is now ready to head back to Vaikuntha and back to the Lotus-feet of Lord Vishnu. Mother Earth implores her to stay on longer as her mission on Earth was much bigger than only granting Moksh. Venerable sages and common people come together to beseech Gangas blessings and pray that she stays on to give life and hope to mankind and destroy evils that emerge through various eras and times in the human world.
Part III:
Ganga’s sojourn on Earth begins and she is now a witness to the life and times and the ever-changing eras of the mortal world. She witnesses many Yugas and the great lives associated with each Yuga. Like King Harischandra in Satyug, Lord Ram in Treta and the Incarnation of Lord Krishna in Dwapar. As Ganga continues to flow peacefully through these ages she encounters King Shantanu to whom she loses her heart and in due course, they accept each other in conditional matrimony. This results in the birth of Bhishma. In the same era, Lord Krishna has taken birth and he plays his various Leelas in Gokul. The era ends with the Great War of Mahabharata. Ganga is shattered when she witnesses the death of her son, Bhishma. But the era was marked by the victory of Dharma (righteousness) over Adharma (wickedness) which was established through the Great War. Evil forces had begun their rule on Earth. They had gripped the planet and impacted the daily lives of human beings in the form of negative influences. The Earth itself was undergoing a time depicting the absence of love, mercy, compassion, peace, truth, the non-violence and was overpowered by the effects of potent forces. Ganga continues to flow through centuries fulfilling her duties and also witnesses the incarnations of Lord Buddha, Mahavir, Shankaracharya, and Guru Nanak Dev. These noble souls helped mankind in alleviating the sufferings of the people who had for long been subjected to and had been reeling under the influence of negative forces. The new era also depicts the period of British Administrations. History unfolds with the narration of sporadic episodes of foreign invaders like the Turks, Khiljis, Lodhi and the Mughals who were hell-bent on destroying the cultural ethos embedded in Indian society. The Indian Mutiny period brings forth the bravery of Mangal Pandey who rebels against the tyranny of British Rule leading to the Freedom of Indian on August 15, 1947.
Part IV:
In the era after Independence, one can see the severe treatment inflicted on Ganga but Ganga refuses to die down. Ganga and her various tributaries have been reduced to almost extinction due to human selfishness and ignorance. Human greed and lust for power affect the very survival of this plant. Human activities for temporal worldly gains keep waging an onslaught on the purity, divinity, and piousness for which Ganga is known. Ganga sees the planet plunging into the dark era and suffering the greatest form of anguish and agony. Ganga is enraged. She could no longer dear the decline of life on Earth caused by mankind. Enraged Ganga threatens to leave the planet, but is touched by the heartfelt prayers and pleas of people who care for their world. She is touched by the little children who are yet to experience this beautiful world and she decided to stay back to help the planet become a better place and a haven for the generations who are yet to arrive. Ganga forgives all those who did not treat her well and resolves to maintain her purity for the sake of the people. The Yuga of Kali has to end. People should no longer challenge the laws of Nature for transient gains. Ganga promises to restore herself to her original state of glory. She bestows her benevolence on humankind against the sounds of drums and bells and voiced chanting the great Ganga Aarti.
On witnessing the show Sushma Swaraj said ‘I don’t have words about Hema Malini’s performance, first time ever in my life, I am taking three words from the famous Television show for your performance – Adbhut, Avishwasniya, and Akalpaniya’ (wonderful, unbelievable and unimaginable).
Talking about Ganga Hema Ji said, ‘Ganga had always been my dream project. However, I had lost hope for it when music director Padmashree Ravindra Jain Ji passed away. In fact, when Ravindra Ji fell sick he had suggested me that should record a few songs on ‘Ganga’ and keep it. I did record a few tracks which Esha and Ahana performed as solo item numbers in shows. But for a full-fledged dance ballet, I was looking for someone who would understand the soul of the subject. That’s when popular music director Ashit Desai came on board.’
Talking further about the Ganga Hema Ji said, ‘I was in search of a new choreographer for ‘Ganga’ as Bhushan Lakandri had decided to relocate from Mumbai but then I insisted and asked Bhushan Ji to come back for the sake of ‘Ganga’. I am glad that he did and what he has created is magnificent. I just can’t imagine anyone other than Bhushan Ji for my ballets, he has been with me since my first ballet Ramayan three decades ago. It’s more than 30 years of association with him and he knows what I want in terms of steps and movements.’
‘Ganga’ is one wholesome dance ballet that takes the audience from era to era beautifully narrating the story of Maa Ganga. Hema Malini plans to take her new baby to every major city of India and to a few International destinations too and through her unmatched dance and acting skills she wishes to spread the vital and significant message of rich Indian mythological tales and more importantly the message of swatch (clean) Ganga a mission of our honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The Aam Aadmi Party will contest the Lok Sabha polls in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, and has fielded three candidates in each of the states, senior leader Sanjay Singh said on Sunday.
In Uttar Pradesh, the AAP has fielded Yogesh Dahiya from Saharanpur, Satish Chandra Sharma from Aligarh and Shweta Sharma from Gautam Buddh Nagar for the polls, Singh said in a tweet.
The party is likely to contest the Lok Sabha polls from 25 seats in Uttar Pradesh.
For rest of the seats, the process to select candidates is in the final stage, Singh said.
In Bihar, Aleemuddin Ansari has been fielded from Kishanganj, Raghunath Kumar from Sitamarhi and Satyendra Kumar from Bhagalpur, he said in another tweet.
Religions play a crucial role in grabbing mandate and no political parties has left any stone unturned from using the same as a political tool, however, Ram Mandir issue tops the lists of all the other tools that has been used by politicians for political gain by now. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) – since its inception never shied away from using the same, moreover, the Ram Mandir issue became an international issue all because of BJP’s definition of nationalism. It is observed by many that the BJP has used the issue for its political mileage and has created hate between Hindus and Muslims.
The construction of Ram Mandir (the hen which led golden egg) will finally be starting if the Congress comes to power in 2019, a source from the party said on the condition of anonymity. The Congress since its inception has always maintained itself to be a secular political party. However, after the 2014 Lok Sabha election and Narendra Modi’s historic win, the Congress too has started showing its Hindutva angle sharply so that it could grab votes.
Muslim minority and Dalits play a vital role in the election as they have almost 30-35 per cent of the total votes. In the last elections the BJP used the Dalit vote bank on the basis of Hindutva agenda that all Hindus are same no matter which castes they belong to, however, the result was opposites, as thousand cases regarding the lynching and murders of Dalits came to limelight under the BJP government. Moreover, if we look at the campaigning of the Congress of the last some years, it quite evident that the party president Rahul Gandhi has been meeting with the Muslim and Dalit communities and favouring them as much as he can. Recently during his political campaigning Rahul Gandhi said that if his party comes to power then he will make sure that the voters would feel great about their voting decision.
“Since the emotion of crores of Hindus is attached with the Ram Mandir, the party has decided to start the construction of the Ram Mandir if it comes to power. Along with this the party will also maintain the sentiments of crores of Muslims as well by keeping the Babri Masjid at its place. Hopefully, we will be solving the decades-long religious issue that has created a communal line between these two religions and will continue the theory of ‘unity in diversity’ that the BJP has broken after coming to power,” the leader said.
Babri Masjid was built in 1528 by Mir Baqi, commander of Mughal emperor Babur and Hindus claimed the Masjid was built after demolishing a temple. British erect fences to separate Hindu and Muslim areas of worship in 1859. However, Hindus and Muslims filed title suits in the 1949 claiming the land; the government takes over the disputed site. The Supreme Court in 1994 orders status quo on all the cases till the title suit is settled. However, Shiv Sainik, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) members and BJP supporters demolished the Babri Masjid in 1992 that caused a communal riot between Hindus and Muslims and nearly 2000 people were died. Since then the conflicts regarding the disputed land has been rounding the nation and the parties that follow the hard-core Hindutva ideology been getting mandate by using the issue.
The Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case is cantered on a controversial piece of land in the Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh where Lord Ram (as believed by Hindus) was born. The Ayodhya case is a political and religious debate in India that has been at the centre of communal and polarisation politics since decades.
In a recent development the Supreme Court on March 8 ordered Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir dispute case for mediation. A three member panel has been finalized for the mediation which will be headed by former Supreme Court judge FM Kalifullah, and the other two mediators include Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and Shriram Panchu. However, the name of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar in mediators’ list created furor in the country. A group supported the decision of SC, another group denounced the court’s decision wrong claiming that Sri Sri is a hard-core Hindu, who during 2014 elections openly supported Modi and the BJP, and he somewhere will be partial regarding the mediation, however, some even said that Sri Sri is doing all this for the sake of getting Nobel peace prize, whereas the realities differ from group to group. AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said the court could have chosen an objective and a rational person who would have been better than Sri Sri.
However, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has declared the upcoming Lok Sabha elections schedule and months is left now to see if the Congress is going to construct the Mandir after it comes to the power or the issue will remain in the same way same as the BJP forgot it after coming to the power in 2014.
Hours after hugely popular artist Sapna Choudhary joined the Congress, BJP MLA from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh Surendra Singh stooped to a new low by comparing former Bigg Boss contestant and Haryanvi singer and dancer with the UPA Chairperson, Sonia Gandhi.
Equating Sonia Gandhi to Sapna Choudhary, he said, ‘Both have dancing background’.
In a video that went viral on social media, Singh also said that he wanted to congratulate Congress President Rahul Gandhi for embracing Sapna despite her profession as a dancer the same way former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi had embraced Sonia Gandhi despite she belonging to ‘the same profession’ before marriage.
#WATCH BJP MLA Surendra Singh on dancer Sapna Chaudhary joins Congress: Rahul ji ki Mata ji bhi Italy mein isi peshe se thi.Jaise aapke pitaji ne Sonia ji ko apna bana liya tha, aap bhi Sapna ko apna banaye.Sabse acchi baat hai saas aur bahu ek hi peshe aur culture se rahengi pic.twitter.com/HK5XCWcuL6
Singh’s sexist slur has got him enough criticism from the netizens. There are reports that the famous folk singer and dancer may be pitted against BJP’s Hema Malini from Mathura in this year’s Lok Sabha polls.

“[My Dear Maharajah Sahib, Your Highness’s letter dated the 26th October, has been delivered to me by Mr. V.P. Menon. In the special circumstances, mentioned by your Highness, my Government has decided to accept the Accession of Kashmir State to the Dominion of India. Consistently with their policy that, in the case of my State where the issue of Accession has been the subject of dispute, the question of Accession Should be decided in accordance with the wishes of the people of the State, it is my Government’s wish that, as soon as law and order have been restored in Kashmir, and her soil cleared of the invader, the question of the State’s Accession should be settled by a reference to the people. Meanwhile, in response to your Highness’s appeal for military aid, action has been taken today to send troops of the Indian Army to Kashmir to help your own forces to defend your territory and to protect the lives, property, and honour of your people. My Government and I note with satisfaction that your Highness has decided to invite Sheikh Abdullah to form an Interim Government to work with your Prime Minister: Yours Sincerely Sd/- Mountbatten of Burma]”
The Kashmiris never understood that former ruler of J&K, Maharaja Hari Singh and even the Government of India, have no right to decide about the accession of J&K, as is evident from IoA. This right of accession lies exclusively with the people of united J&K (J&K and PoJK combined). As per IoA, the people of J&K have nothing to do even with United Nations rather it is the responsibility of India to get plebiscite by getting the soil of United J&K cleared of Pak invaders (including non-citizens of united J&K) and after getting law and order restored in united J&K. How India does it is India’s headache whether by its own or through the UN or by getting military help from any friendly country. However, political leadership/parties of J&K (especially of Kashmir) have committed this blunder of talking about irrelevant entities (about accession) all along 71 years and even now the existing political parties in J&K are committing the same blunder.
Therefore, the enlightened Kashmiris should come forward and should do the following in order to solve the chronic and gory Kashmir problem:-
(1) The Kashmiris should take lead in arranging public meetings in J&K starting from the first week of April before relevant phases of Parliamentary elections (which are starting from April 11, 2019) at least at parliamentary constituencies of Srinagar, Jammu, Baramula, Udhampur, Anantnag and Ladhakh to enlighten and inform the people about this legal position of J&K and about legal necessity of plebiscite as per IoA.
(2) The Kashmiris should take lead in filing a writ petition in the J&K High Court in first week of coming April and then appeal in Supreme Court of India (If needed) about getting amended the Article 1 (3) (a) of The Constitution [which illegally shows J&K as Indian territory (like other States) without any mention of the condition of plebiscite as per IoA]. Here it is legally pertinent to add that neither Indian Parliament nor Legislative Bodies of J&K have any constitutional-legal right to decide on the territory of united J&K before plebiscite as per IoA.
(3) These enlightened Kashmiris should take lead in launching a national political party (in case of no existing party in J&K comes forward to do the above mentioned) which will help in getting support of Indians from rest of India for this cause of the people of J&K (people of J&K will be surprised that how many people in rest of India support the above-mentioned approach of plebiscite for the solution of chronic and gory Kashmir problem because these supporters of Plebiscite from rest of India know and are confident that people of united J&K will prefer Secular India in Plebiscite for accession).
(4) This political party should contest Parliamentary election not only in J&K but in rest of India which will prove public support from all over India (and not merely from J&K) for this plebiscite approach about resolving chronic and gory Kashmir problem [Territory is martial and not civil subject hence its jurisdiction lies with Union of India/Parliament which makes the people of entire India (and not merely people of J&K) concerned with this matter of accession of J&K to India]. This national political party sponsored by Kashmiris should draft its constitution which will not only solve Kashmir problem by said plebiscite for accession but will also solve the socio-economic problems of the people of the rest of India.
It is hoped that enlightened Kashmiris will come forward to solve the gory and chronic Kashmir problem by taking all the four above mentioned measures.
