Sylvester Stallone to not face sexual assault charges

Sylvester Stallone AV

Citing insufficient evidence, legal representatives have now backed off from levelling sexual abuse charge against Hollywood veteran actor Sylvester Stallone.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has declined to level a charge against the actor which pertains to a 30-year old case, reported a online portal.

Investigators mentioned that there was “insufficient evidence” to support the filing of any allegations outside the “statute of limitations”. On November 2017 a woman filed a police report over an alleged sexual assault that she claimed to have faced in the 1990s at the hands of Stallone.

According to a charge evaluation worksheet released by the DA’s office, both Stallone and the woman were in a “consensual relationship in 1987”.

“The victim alleged assaults in 1987 and 1990 and provided fresh complaint witnesses. However, none of the witnesses corroborated victim’s allegations,” the worksheet read.

Stallone’s lawyer Marty Singer had also acknowledged that Stallone was in a week-long relationship with the woman while shooting for a movie in Israel back in 1987.

Sylvester would be next seen in action movies ‘Rambo V’ and ‘Creed II’.

JLo opens up about her dating life

Jennifer Lopez AV

American singer-actor Jennifer Lopez recently ruminated on how dating in Hollywood has changed since the dawn of social media and also opened up about her relationships.

The ‘On the floor’ singer was in a high-profile relationship with actor Ben Affleck from 2002 to 2004 and is currently dating Baseball shortstop Alex Rodriguez.

“When I met Alex, we had both already done a lot of work on ourselves. Everybody has flaws, and the people I want in my life are the people who recognise that and are willing to work on those flaws. It’s super-important: someone who’s willing to look at themselves and say, ‘OK, I’m not great here’ or ‘I could do better there,” a online portal quoted the 49-year-old star’s statement during her interview with a leading magazine.

Lopez also admitted that dating was “actually worse” back then. “It was just crazy. Now at least I can show you who I am a little bit. Back then you just believed anything you read on the cover of a tabloid,” she said. “Many times it wasn’t true, or it was like a third of the truth.”

While accepting the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards, Lopez had called the former MLB star her “Twin Soul.

Kamala Mills fire: HC rejects bail pleas of pub owners

Bombay High Court Yog Tuli AV

The Bombay High Court Thursday rejected the bail pleas of the owners of two eateries in central Mumbai’s Kamala Mills compound which were gutted in a fire last December in which 14 people were killed and many injured.

Justice Prakash Naik on Thursday dismissed the bail applications filed by Yug Pathak, owner of Mojo Bistro, and the owners of 1Above pub – Kripesh Sanghavi, Jigar Sanghavi and Abhijit Mankar.

The four accused were arrested in January and are currently in judicial custody.

In February, the police filed its charge sheet against 12 accused, including owners of the two restaurants where the fire broke out, owner of the Kamala Mills compound and BMC officials.

The 12 accused have been named in the charge sheet under sections of IPC including those for culpable homicide not amounting to murder and causing grievous hurt by act endangering life and personal safety of others.

In April, the high court had rejected the bail plea of Yug Tuli, co-owner of Mojo Bistro.

In May, the high court granted bail to Ramesh Gowani and Ravi Bhandari – owners of Kamala Mills compound – after observing that they cannot be held liable for acts of the restaurant owners.

Ease of doing biz ranking: Kant says important to reach top-25 in 3 yrs

NItI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant AV

NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant on Thursday expressed hope that India can figure in top-25 nations in the World Bank Ease of Doing Business ranking in next three years.

Kant said India, which has jumped 23 places to the 77th position in the ‘ease of doing business’ ranking released Wednesday, can reach top 50 in the ranking next year.

“This is a spectacular performance (jump in rankings).. No country of this size and complexity has achieved this..Jump of 65 positions in three years..It was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision to reach within top 50 position in 5 years. It is very important to reach within top 25 in 3 years,” Kant said on the sidelines of an event in the capital.

India was ranked 100th in the World Bank’s Doing Business Report last year.

The ranking comes as a shot in the arm for the government which faces strong dissenting voices from opposition parties ahead of the general elections next year.

We have a huge opportunity in Australia: Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar AV

With Australia not having their two key players Steve Smith and David Warner, batting great Sachin Tendulkar believes that it will be a “huge opportunity” for India to do something special Down Under.

“I think we have a huge opportunity (in Australia). You (the reporter) correctly put it, the Australian team does not look the same Australian side that it used to be and with Smith and Warner not there, this is a great opportunity to go out and do something special,” Tendulkar said when asked about India’s chances in the upcoming tour.

India begin the tour with three T20s, which will be followed by a four-match Test series, the first beginning at Adelaide on December 6.

Smith and Warner are currently serving a one-year ban while Cameron Bancroft has been suspended for nine months after their involvement in the ball-tampering scandal in March.

The legendary player was speaking after the first India camp of the Tendulkar Middelsex Global Academy began at the D Y Patil Stadium here this morning. His childhood friend and former India batsman Vinod Kambli also mentored the kids. The two players have come on the cricket field together after many years.

Tendulkar also said he didn’t want to get into the debate of whether the ban on Smith and Warner should be reduced or not.

Recently, the Australian Cricketers Association reiterated its call for the bans on Smith, Warner and Bancroft to be lifted in the light of the findings of the cultural reviews into Australian Cricket.

Asked about it and whether he would like to see the duo playing, Tendulkar said, “I would want to see good cricket for sure (in Australia). They both (Smith and Warner) are world-class players. So I don’t want to get into that debate whether the ban should be reduced or not.

“But I would like to see them, but by no means I am saying or interfering in what their judgment has been. All I am saying in both are world class players.”

Tendulkar also praised rookie left-arm pacer Khaleel Ahmed saying from whatever he has seen the bowler has looked good.

Ahmed, who had impressed in the Asia Cup, picked up a three-wicket haul in the fourth ODI against West Indies in Mumbai on Monday, when he ripped through their middle-order.

“Khaleel has been good, I have not watched too much of him, but I have seen, he was part of the Mumbai Indians, so I have seen a bit of Khaleel sometime ago and recently I saw him on television, again I am saying I have not seen at length, from whatever I have seen he looked good,” said Tendulkar.

Tendulkar said that the presence of Jasprit Bumrah was important and that India had good fast bowlers.

Asked about the Indian pace bowling attack, Tendulkar noted, “Good for us if there is competition is heating up, why not? Healthy competition is always welcome, that means we have got good fast bowlers, who are sitting on the bench also.

“Whenever bench strength is also strong, in case there are some injuries at the last moment, you know that someone sitting out is fully geared up and ready to go out and deliver. I think we are in that position at this stage.

“Yes there is always room for improvement. They want to get better each time they get out on the field. In particular, (Jasprit) Bumrah’s presence is going to be important,” he signed off.

After the DY Patil Stadium, the Tendulkar Middlesex Global Academy camp will be held at the MIG Club in suburban Bandra from November 6-9 and later will be held at The Bishops School in Pune from November 12-15 and 17-20.

The Supreme Court on Thursday fixed December 15 as the deadline for filing of claims and objections for inclusion of names in Assam National Register of Citizens (NRC).

1) Statue of Unity or Pseudo-politics?

Prime Minister should look into the genuine suggestion of BSP Chief Mayawati for naming the statue of Sardar Patel in Hindi which has its name in English at present as the Statue of Unity. Increasing use of Hindi will make the language popular and understandable even in global countries.

It is not fair to comment that the tallest statue of the world should have been of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi rather than of well-deserving Sardar Patel. Rather it is nothing but pseudo-politics to continue political worshipping of a person who through his misused veto-power deprived people of India from Sardar Patel as the first Prime Minister and instead imposed a person as Prime Minister who through his vote-bank based pseudo-secular policies made every effort to stall re-construction of Somnath Temple. Fortunately, India at that time had its bold first President Dr. Rajendra Prasad who declined to follow the unfair direction of the then Prime Minister for not being part of installation ceremony of re-built Somnath Temple, and instead followed the principles of Sardar Patel by being a part of the re-installation-ceremony of the Temple.

2) Money-minting anti-consumer tactics of GoAir

I travelled on October 29, 2018, by GoAir (flight-number 145) from Delhi to Ranchi with seat-number 6A and PNR-number DE164B having a pre-booked meal. I was offered to choose from four options where I opted for a combo of Popcorn-Lays-Juice. But the flight-staff expressed inability to deliver the same as Popcorn was not available, desiring me to choose from other available options none of which were acceptable to me. I requested to change unavailable Popcorn with Cashew Nut which both had the same price of Rs 150. But the flight-head Kurush refused to do so showing me the menu-card where, in very tiny letters, it was written -Terms and conditions apply, Subject to Availability! It is very usual tactic to avoid the responsibility of all anti-consumer bodies to save them from legal technicalities. There was no complaint-book to lodge a complaint.

It is also noteworthy that GoAir menu-card offers even packaged food-items at highly exorbitant list-price than available in the market like Paper Boat and Aerated Beverages which are priced at Rs 100 each. I then cancelled my return-flight from Ranchi to Delhi by GoAir on October 30, 2018.

Directorate General of Civil Aviation and Department of Consumer Affairs should take action against GoAir and arrange adequate compensation in addition of food-cost for not being able to deliver the goods even though it was charged with the ticket cost. It should be ensured that all packaged food-items in all domestic flights may be sold on normal market-price rather than the exorbitant price printed on items, especially for airliners.

3) Does anybody care?

Once a Delhi Chest Surgeon said that 90 per cent of the lung cancer patients are those who are addicted to smoking. But now, 30 years later, 60 per cent of those patients, who are not smoking, are suffering from air pollution. Doctors say that polluted air is causing diseases like asthma to cancer. Does anyone have any attention to air pollution? There is a need to bring awareness in people. Air pollution is a major problem and the government needs to inform its citizens about the consequences of it.

4) One more disheartening Maoist’s attack

It was heartbreaking to read about that a Doordarshan cameraperson and policemen were killed in a Maoist ambush in Dantewada district of poll-bound Chhattisgarh. It is the matter of great concerns that still we are living in fright of Maoism. When will this dream come true that Naxalism and Maoism have been eradicated from our country? Though the BJP government repeatedly pledged to exterminate the Naxalism the results are yet to be seen. How long will the innocent people give up their lives? I request the government to come forward for this most important purpose of eradication of Naxalism, Terrorism, and Extremism. The people in the whole country, particularly in the Northern areas, will heave a sigh of relief and contentment after this operation.

5) Donald Trump in the well of criticism

Once again the US President Donald Trump has fallen in the whirlpool of widespread criticism even from his own party, after his decision to bring an executive order to end the right to the U.S. citizenship for children born in the U.S. to non-citizens. As Congressman Paul Ryan, Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives openly opposed him saying “You cannot end the birthright citizenship with an executive order.” Surely it is an attempt of Trump to interfere in the Constitution of US which may harm himself and his party too. It is quite possible that it may lead to the eruption of insurrection all over the United States because the people will never become ready to accept this amendment particularly those who believe in the Constitution.

6) RBI crisis is shocking for the nation

The ongoing battle between the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Centre over the central bank’s independence is not healthy for the country’s economy. Still, the entire nation was in deep shock owing to the CBI’s ongoing fighting between the top officers and now the crisis in RBI is totally unbearable for the nation. It seems that autonomy of all the top departments and agencies of the country is under threat. Some evil elements are trying to destroy all them. If this flood of objections over these upright departments is not prevented, surely it will lead the country to distractions in every aspect. I request the present government to stop interfering in independent departments of the country and must attempt to restore their pristine sanctity and trust.

7) Satan is in every religion

There is a wolf in sheep’s clothing in every religion, including Christianity. But this should not make us go away from the Church. Just because Bishop Franco Mulakkal has done something wrong, this does not mean that all the priests and bishops are sinners. We are all weak and bound to sin. There is Satan in every religion that makes priests, Imams, and pandits sin. All we need is to pray for them so that they may walk in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.

8) An ominous start to Shivaji Statue

It seems that sprightly mountain warrior Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is saying no to the memorial planned for him in the midst of the Arabian Sea. Like Bombay High Oil Drilling Project, the laying of the statue is highly risky and there’s a fear of death due to drowning. The project already claimed a life as the boat capsized in the sea and caused an ominous start. Let us take up the task of building a big statue for Shivaji within the land and drop out this project for the time being as there is a high risk of drowning high seas is looming large.

9) Trump unable to attend Republic Day

It is surprising to note that the US Administration has turned down the offer from the Indian counterpart’s invite to Trump as a Chief Guest for the 2019 Indian Republic Day celebrations to be held in New Delhi. As otherwise, both the leaders will miss a crucial opportunity to meet for one last time, owing to upcoming elections in both India and US which result in the change of the leadership.

The meeting with the arrival of Trump will further enable to conclude necessary negotiations initiated by the Ministries of Defense, MEA, and Commerce and Industry. The talks need to be settled urgently in India’s best interest including H1-B visa application stand-off which has hit the IT exports and overseas employment, issue of export subsidies through the newly set up Indo-US WTO dispute settlement panel and also defense and security matters through superseding the recently concluded of 2+2 dialogues.

Further, an effort should be made jointly by both India and US diplomatic patrons to establish a new full-fledged US consulate at Bengaluru. Of late, Bengaluru has witnessed a robust infusion of skilled IT professionals from many US companies based in the city. Such a move will largely benefit many professionals and students who otherwise face logistical hardships to obtain a US visa. Also, a new US consulate in Bangalore will help to promote its current activities related to cultural and educational exchange programs, as launched in other five US consulates based in India.

SC raps Bihar govt for not arresting Manju Verma

Manju Verma AV

The Supreme Court of India has expressed its displeasure over government’s “failure” to arrest former Bihar minister Manju Verma in connection with the Muzaffarpur shelter home case.

A bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Madan Bhinmrao Lokur, observed, “All is not well in Bihar. Former minister goes hiding and the government does not know and has failed to arrest her even after her bail plea was rejected.”

The Janata Dal (United) leader was to be arrested after her anticipatory bail in an Arms Act case filed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was rejected by the Patna High Court on October 9.

The apex court asked the state government as to why the former minister has not been arrested yet. Verma resigned as the Social Welfare Minister of Bihar in August after her husband came under fire for allegedly having links with Brajesh Thakur, the prime accused in the Muzaffarpur shelter home rape case.

The shelter home rape case pertains to the alleged sexual harassment of 44 girls residing at the state-run shelter home.
