Maharashtra has given thumbs down to the ‘Mahayuti’

Maharashtra has given thumbs down to the 'Mahayuti' 2

Ever since the Maha Vikas Aghadi government came to power, Uddhav Thackeray was humiliated in every way; he had to vacate his chair after crossing the extreme limits of scheming against him. Amidst many insults and allegations, he started reaching out to the people and won their trust. Seeing today’s results, it is difficult to say whether the BJP was able to stay in power because of the Shiv Sena or whether the Shiv Sena was in power because of the BJP. Today, Uddhav has proved that he can play his own game in his own capacity, and the people of Maharashtra love the Thackeray family very much.

On the other hand, Sharad Pawar, the Maratha strongman and the chief of the Nationalist Congress Party Sharad Pawar (NCP-SP), knows the nerves of Maharashtra politics. He can stump foes as well as friends. His nephew, Ajit Pawar, the No. 2 in the party, broke away and joined the BJP. He took several leaders, the name of the party and also its logo and betrayed Sharad Pawar for power but Pawar gave him a clear message in this election, not to mess with him. Ajit Pawar’s NCP could hardly make any mark. His wife, too, lost elections against Supriya Sule. Congress too did pretty well; in a nutshell, Maha Vikas Agadhi bounced back on their own strength.

Infidelity politics did not go well with Maharashtra voters. Breaking regional parties and joining hands with corrupt leaders was shocking for BJP voters. The biggest mistake of the BJP was that they were giving shelter to every corrupt person; morality had become a joke for them. The BJP took all corrupt people from other parties and it led to another corrupt party. The ideology of the party got diluted and these corrupt people will never change but the BJP had to compromise for the sake of power. Most of the leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party are also corrupt, both internally and externally. They are accusing other opposition leaders.

The BJP has misused the government machinery and its IT cell a lot. To defame any leader or to defeat him in social life, the IT cell would go after him and the government machinery would be used to intimidate them. Out of fear of getting arrested or facing an ED inquiry, most of the corrupt leaders of other political parties joined hands with BJP and those leaders were given clean chits. The main motive of the Bharatiya Janata Party is to finish the opposition by taking their famous and popular leaders in the Bharatiya Janata Party.

INDIA Bloc was leading towards one party rule and that is the rule of the Bhartiya Janta Party. Presently, more than 90% of political power throughout the country is in the hands of the Bharatiya Janata Party. The BJP has a huge majority in parliament and most of the Indian states are ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party government. Still, with the greed of having the utmost majority, they entertained outsiders and ignored their own veteran leaders. Above all, anti-incumbency played a vital role in the 2024 elections.

The INDIA bloc comprises Shiv Sena (UBT), Sharad Pawar’s NCP and the Congress. MVA got 29 seats and Mahayuti got 19 seats. In the 2019 general elections, the BJP won 23 Lok Sabha seats in the state, its alliance partner Shiv Sena (which was then undivided) won 18 seats, the NCP (undivided) won four, and Congress and AIMIM each won a seat. An independent candidate won one seat. Maharashtra has witnessed several political shifts since 2014, when the BJP-led NDA alliance came to power. In the 2019 general elections, the BJP won 23 Lok Sabha seats in the state, and its alliance partner Shiv Sena (which was then undivided) won 18 seats. However, in 2022, a massive political crisis took over the state after Eknath Shinde, who was with Shiv Sena at the time, cross-voted for the BJP. Following this, Uddhav Thackeray removed Shinde from the post of Shiv Sena legislature party leader. Soon after, Shinde joined the BJP. In this election, Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar both declined.

Till today, the BJP attacked Uddhav Thackeray, stating that whatever seats he won in 2014 were due to Modi waves, not his achievements or merits. He was brutally attacked by the BJP and its alliance parties. But they forgot to notice that the Shiv Sena (UBT) is Maharashtra’s regional party and people have immense faith in that family. No one can detach them from the soil. The BJP playing spoiler did not go well with voters. Today, the BJP has set a benchmark for being an unprincipled, power-hungry party, to which end justifies means. It has now stopped at the lowest level to win the election. Votes are being asked by the prime minister himself, using the Army’s name. The model code of conduct is violated, whether it is the Namo channel, highly objectionable statements by the UP chief minister and others or the use of the Army in any form.

Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Since INC was in power most of the time, we thought that INC MPs and MLAs were more corrupt than others. However, there are many advantages to remaining in shadow as well. The public eyes are always raised on the people in power, whereas the people in shadows can skip public attention and therefore, their deeds go unnoticed. It is unnecessary to specify that BJP leaders are NOT saints; they are also corrupt. Let this government continue for one more term and we will realise all the party leaders are equally rich or equally poor. Many of the existing leaders in the BJP are actually poached from INC. How did all of them become clean and honest nationalists? This election gave a befitting reply to the BJP by refusing their hate mongering, venom-spreading statements, and speeches; they don’t want to do Hindu/Muslim politics, and they are not willing to support the BJP’s arrogance and silent dictatorship. The BJP misused its powers in Maharashtra state too; that is the reason Mahayuti got the thumbs down this time.

PM Modi wins from Varanasi, defeats Congress' Ajay Rai by over 1.5 lakh votes 4

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has won the Varanasi constituency in Uttar Pradesh, as the counting for the Lok Sabha elections is underway. PM Modi has defeated Congress candidate Ajay Rai by a margin of 1,52,513 votes, according to the Election Commission of India.

Prime Minister Modi received 6,12,970 votes while Ajay Rai received 4,60,457 votes. Bahujan Samaj Party candidate Ather Jamal Lari was in the third position with 33,766 votes. In the state of Uttar Pradesh, BJP is ahead on 31 seats, while its allies Rashtriya Lok Dal and Apna Dal are ahead on two and one seat respectively. Notably, this is much lower than BJP’s 2019 tally, when it registered a massive victory winning 62 out of 80 seats.

The INDIA bloc has registered a strong performance with Samajwadi Party and Congress being ahead on 38 and 7 seats respectively. Following the defeat, Congress candidate Ajay Rai, thanked the people of Kashi for their support adding that PM Modi had to face difficulty even in winning by a margin of 1,50,000 votes.

“Everyone has been campaigning for him and despite that PM Modi was trailing for the last three hours. He had to face difficulty even in winning by a margin of 1,50,000. The people of Kashi have shown that their support is with their brother (me),” Rai told ANI. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) crossed the majority mark in early leads and is ahead on around 300 seats, while the INDIA bloc, defying all predictions is leading on over 230 seats.

Most exit polls predicted a straight term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with quite a few of them projecting a two-thirds majority for the ruling BJP-led NDA. Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang congratulated Prime Minister Modi and the BJP. He also assured that Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) fully supports the NDA.

“Congratulations to the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi Ji and the NDA on their remarkable victory in the 18th Lok Sabha elections. The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) Party fully supports the NDA for the development and prosperity of our country,” Tamang stated on X. SKM won the lone Lok Sabha seat in the state.

Earlier on Sunday, Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) registered a landslide victory in the Sikkim legislative assembly elections. SKM won 31 out of the 32 seats sweeping the assembly polls in the Himalayan state while the opposition Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) was confined to a lone seat.

Former Punjab CM Charanjit Channi wins from Jalandhar, BJP's Rinku finishes second 6

In a major setback to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), former Punjab Chief Minister and Congress candidate Charanjit Singh Channi won from the Jalandhar constituency of Punjab by a comfortable margin of 1,75,993, as per the data from the Election Commission of India (ECI). Channi competed against BJP candidate Sushil Kumar Rinku and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Pawan Kumar Tinu.

The Congress candidate gained a total of 3,90,053 votes, while BJP’s Rinku secured a total of 2,14,060 votes. AAP’s Tinu managed to win 2,08,889 votes. The polling in Jalandhar was held in the final phase of the Lok Sabha polls- June 1. The voter turnout was recorded at 59.70% against 63.04% in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

In Punjab, the Congress is currently leading on seven seats while the AAP is ahead on three seats, as per the ECI. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is ahead on one seat. Meanwhile, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is leading on 293 seats while the INDIA bloc is ahead on 233 seats out of a total of 543 Lok Sabha constituencies.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is eyeing a third straight term in power, while the Opposition under the umbrella of the INDIA bloc is seeking to wrest power from the ruling party. Most exit polls predicted a straight term for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with quite a few of them projecting a two-thirds majority for the ruling BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).

The Congress party and its allies dismissed the exit polls as “orchestrated” and a work of “fantasy”, asserting that the opposition INDIA bloc will form the next government at the Centre. Strict security has been put in place for the smooth conduct of counting of votes for over 8,000 candidates in this general election.

Two polls predicted the BJP would also improve its numbers from the 303 seats it won in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. In the 2019 elections, NDA wrested 353 seats, of which the BJP won 303 alone. The Opposition’s UPA got only 93 seats of which the Congress got 52. Even before the counting of the votes, the Bharatiya Janata Party won one seat of Surat Lok Sabha.

The Lok Sabha elections were held across the country in seven phases from April 19 to June 1.

Uttar Pradesh which is contributing the highest number of seats, 80, to the Lok Sabha, is a crucial state for both the NDA and INDIA bloc. With the counting of the votes in Lok Sabha polls underway, the Bharatiya Janata Party is leading on 35 seats and its ally partner RLD leading on two seats while Samajwadi party is leading on 34 seats in Uttar Pradesh, as per the initial trends by the Election Commission of India.

As per initial trends, there is a close fight between the SP and BJP in Uttar Pradesh, Congress is leading on 8 seats. PM Narendra Modi is contesting from Varanasi Lok Sabha seats, he had won in 2014 and 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Varanasi.

Meanwhile, Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) and Aazad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram) leading on one seat each. Voting was held in seven phases in Uttar Pradesh.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the winner by securing the majority of seats. Of 80 seats, the BJP won 62, followed by the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) with 10 seats, the Samajwadi Party (SP) with 5 seats, and the Apna Dal with 2 seats. Uttar Pradesh, the state with the highest number of seats, is poised to see the BJP emerge victorious with 65 out of 80 seats, the exit polls have predicted. As per the poll predictions, its NDA allies in the state, Apna Dal (Sonelal) and Rashtriya Lok Dal are slated to win 2 seats each which brings the NDA tally to 69 seats.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is leading in the two Lok Sabha seats of Wayanad in Kerala and Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh as per very early leads as counting of votes for the 2024 general elections is underway. Rahul Gandhi is leading from Kerala’s Wayanad Lok Sabha seat with a margin of 8718 votes, according to Election Commission.

Rahul Gandhi is facing BJP leader K Surendran and CPI’s Annie Raja in the constituency. Rahul Gandhi is leading from Uttar Pradesh’s Raebareli Lok Sabha seat with a margin of 2126 votes.

Thakur Prasad Yadav is contesting from the Bahujan Samaj Party. For, the Congress, Amethi and Rae Bareli, its family strongholds, are prestige battles. This holds especially true for Amethi, where Rahul Gandhi lost to BJP’s Smriti Irani last time. While Samajwadi Party is contesting 62 seats, the Congress is fighting 17.

In the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency, Congress party’s Kishori Lal Meena is leading with 3018 votes, while BJP’s Smriti Irani is trailing, as per Election Commission of India. In Meerut, Arun Govil is leading with 5723 votes, while Samajwadi party’s Sunita Verma is trailing.

The Meerut Lok Sabha seat is witnessing a triangular contest among the BJP, the opposition INDIA bloc and the Bahujan Samaj Party. The BJP is relying on Arun Govil’s popularity as the actor who portrayed Ram in the immensely popular “Ramayana” serial on Doordarshan in mid 1980’s.

Most exit polls have predicted a return of PM Modi to power, a development which will make him the first Prime Minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to secure a third successive term in power, Earlier, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar had said that a “very robust system” has been put in place. “There are around 10.5 lakh booths. Each booth will have 14 tables. There are observers and micro-observers. Nearly, 70-80 lakh people are involved in the process,” he said.

Around 642 million people voted in Lok Sabha elections held over seven phases in a mammoth six-week period. The counting of votes began starting with postal ballot papers amid tight security. The counting for State Legislative Assemblies of 175 Assembly constituencies in Andhra Pradesh and 147 Assembly constituencies in Odisha and results of bypolls in 25 Assembly constituencies also began.

Sonia Gandhi Rebuffs Exit Polls, Anticipates Unexpected Lok Sabha Outcomes 10

In a resolute statement, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi on Monday underscored her party’s confidence that the upcoming Lok Sabha election results will defy the projections made in the exit polls. ‘We have to wait, just wait and see,’ she remarked, expressing hope that the results would starkly contrast with the current predictions.

Gandhi’s remarks were made after attending an event at the DMK office to commemorate the 100th birth anniversary of DMK stalwart M Karunanidhi. She used the platform to pay tributes and reflect on her interactions with Karunanidhi, lauding his wisdom and advice over the years.

Her statements come amidst a wave of exit polls forecasting a decisive victory for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP-led NDA, with predictions of over 350 seats. However, the Congress and its allies have dismissed these forecasts as ‘fantasy,’ asserting their belief in securing victory and forming the next government.

Claudia Sheinbaum Likely To Win Mexican Presidential Elections, Exit Polls Show 12

Claudia Sheinbaum, is likely to win the Presidential elections of Mexico, and create history when she becomes the violence-plagued nation’s first female President, showed El Financiero exit poll on Sunday. Alejandro Moreno, head of Surveys and Opinion Studies at El Financiero, announced the first findings following the closure of polling stations across the nation.

“What this exit poll projects, here we can project Claudia Sheinbaum as the winner in the presidential race. There is no difference that makes us doubt the margin of error,” she explained. El Financiero is a Mexican national daily newspaper covering business and the financial markets.

Sheinbaum, a former mayor of Mexico City “will be the first female president in our history!”, Morena Party chief Mario Delgado said, referring to exit polls, reported CNN. Mexico’s ruling Morena party and the opposition alliance are claiming early victories in the country’s elections, despite the fact that the National Electoral Institute (INE) has yet to declare official results.

However, Xochitl Galvez, the opposition alliance’s presidential candidate, stated that her coalition won the elections and urged President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to respect Mexican voters. Both announcements took place right after National Electoral Institute (INE) chief Guadalupe Taddei Zavala urged political parties to “respect the rules of the game and accept the results with maturity and responsibility.”

Mexicans voted for both national and local candidates in a massive and historic election on Sunday. The election was said to be the largest in the country’s history, with over 98 million eligible voters, and over 20,000 public offices being contested, according to CNN.

The leading presidential race is noted to be between Claudia Sheinbaum of the leftist Morena party and Xochitl Galvez of the opposition coalition. The third candidate is Jorge Alvarez Maynez from the center-left Citizens’ Movement.

The polling stations across the country, as per the National Electoral Institute of Mexico (INE), were closed on Sunday evening. Official results have not yet been announced by the INE, however, Sheinbaum continues to lead the race as per INE figures.

The vote comes just months before the US presidential election, where immigration is a major focus for Donald Trump and Joe Biden’s election campaigns. Mexico is a vital US ally on a multitude of issues, including trade and migration management.

SKM secretary general Arun Upreti initially proposed Tamang’s name, which was seconded by Sangha MLA Sonam Lama, leading to Tamang’s unanimous election as the legislature party leader. Following the announcement, party leaders extended their congratulations and committed to working under Tamang’s leadership.

The SKM has secured a commanding victory in the assembly elections, winning 31 of the 32 seats. The opposition SDF managed to secure just one seat. This electoral success further consolidates Tamang’s leadership and enhances his mandate to govern.

Porsche Crash Scandal: Mother of Accused Arrested for Swapping Blood Samples 16

Pune police have arrested the mother of the minor in the Porsche car accident case after confirmation that his blood samples were replaced with hers, the city police chief said on Saturday. She is likely to be produced in court during the day.

As part of their probe, the police also spoke to the minor for about an hour at the observation home, where he has been sent till June 5, in his mother’s presence.

Citing their investigation into the accident, Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar said the juvenile’s blood samples were swapped with those of his mother.

Police had told a local court two days ago that the blood samples of the 17-year-old juvenile were exchanged with those of a woman.

“We will conduct the minor’s inquiry inside the home in the presence of his mother,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balkawade had said before police spoke to the minor. The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) on Friday permitted the police to probe the teenager. Under the Juvenile Justice Act, the inquiry of a minor has to be conducted in the parents’ presence.

Two IT professionals were killed in the early hours of May 19 in Kalyani Nagar in Pune after a Porsche allegedly being driven by the minor, who the police claim was drunk, rammed into their two-wheeler.

The minor’s father, realtor Vishal Agarwal, and grandfather Surendra Agarwal have been arrested for allegedly kidnapping the family’s driver and putting pressure on him to take the blame.

A court on Friday remanded the teenager’s father and grandfather in judicial custody for 14 days after their police custody ended.

Police have also arrested Dr Ajay Taware, then head of the department of forensic medicine at Sassoon General Hospital, medical officer Dr Shrihari Halnor and employee Atul Ghatkamble for allegedly manipulating the minor’s blood samples to show that he was not drunk at the time of the accident.

As per the police, about a dozen calls were exchanged between Vishal Agarwal and Dr Ajay Taware, one of the arrested doctors, while samples were being collected for testing for alcohol consumption.

Dr Halnor and Ghatkamble received a total of Rs 3 lakh from Dr Taware to change the blood samples, a senior police officer had said earlier. Police on Friday moved an application for Vishal Agarwal’s custody in connection with the alleged switching of the blood samples.

The JJB granted bail to the teenager a few hours after the May 19 crash and asked him to write a 300-word essay on road safety. Amid a nationwide outcry, police again approached the JJB, which modified the order and sent him to the observation home till June 5.

After the bail was given to the juvenile by a single member of the JJ Board, the Maharashtra government set up a committee to probe the conduct of the state-appointed members of JJB and check if norms were followed while issuing orders in the Pune car crash case.

The committee, headed by a deputy commissioner, will submit its report by next week, Prashant Narnavare, commissioner of the Women and Child Department, had said earlier.

June 4th to bring a new dawn to the Nation with formation of INDIA Alliance: Rahul Gandhi 18

As the nation heads into the final phase of voting, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi announced a transformative moment for India stating that the INDIA bloc government is going to be formed on June 4.’

“Dear fellow citizens, today is the voting day for the seventh and final phase, and the trends so far indicate that an INDIA government is going to be formed in the country,” Gandhi said in a tweet on X.

He expressed pride in the electorate’s resilience, stating, “Despite the scorching heat, you all have come out to vote in defence of democracy and the constitution.” Rahul Gandhi urged citizens to cast their votes decisively.

“Today, come out in large numbers and deliver the ‘final blow’ to this government, which has become a symbol of arrogance and oppression, with your vote,” Gandhi said. He emphasized the significance of this moment, predicting, “The sun on June 4th is going to bring a new dawn to the country.”

Echoing similar sentiments, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi said that it has become clear that the government of the INDIA bloc is going to be formed. She also urged the voters to vote in large numbers. “Dear sisters and brothers, today is the final phase of the election, and it has become clear that the government of INDIA is going to be formed. Your maximum participation will make INDIA even stronger,” Priyanka Gandhi said.

“Based on your experience, your wisdom, and your issues, vote in large numbers. Vote for your constitution, vote for your democracy, and form a government that works only for you,” she added. The seventh phase marks a grand finish to the world’s largest polling marathon that began on the 19th of last month and has already covered six phases and 486 Lok Sabha seats.

Voting started in the last 57 parliamentary constituencies at 7 am today across seven states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. According to the Election Commission of India, over 10.06 crore electors including approximately 5.24 crore male, 4.82 crore female and 3574 third gender electors are expected to exercise their franchise.

The seven States in which polling is scheduled include Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and the Union Territory of Chandigarh. Polling for the remaining 42 Assembly constituencies of the Odisha State Legislative Assembly will also take place simultaneously. A total of 904 candidates are in the fray for the final phase of polling. The prominent candidates in the fray in this phase include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Ravi Shankar Prasad, Nishikant Dubey, Ravneet Singh Bittu, Congress leaders Manish Tewari, Charanjit Singh Channi, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Misa Bharti.

Polling for the earlier six phases of Lok Sabha elections was held on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20 and May 25. Assembly polls have also been held in Andhra Pradesh, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. Odisha is seeing simultaneous polls to Lok Sabha and assembly in the last four phases.

US, Japan, and South Korea hold talks, "strongly condemn" North Korea missile launch 20

The United States, Japan, and South Korea “strongly oppose” any unilateral attempts to change the status quo in the Indo-Pacific waters and “strongly condemn” North Korea’s recent launches using ballistic missile technology, Voice of America reported. A joint statement of the three countries followed a meeting of US Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell with Japan’s Vice Foreign Minister Masataka Okano and South Korea’s Vice Foreign Minister Kim Hong Kyun in Little Washington, Virginia, on Friday.

The officials agreed to continue close coordination on North Korea and other challenges to regional and global stability, with a plan to set up a new coordinating body to further align their policies. US Deputy Secretary of State Campbell ahead of the meeting at his farmhouse said that the envisioned body will likely be “a secretariat of some kind,” Kyodo reported.

The three allies recognized the importance of “opposing unlawful maritime claims in the South China Sea” and reaffirmed the importance of maintaining peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. “There is no change in our basic positions on Taiwan, and we call for the peaceful resolution of cross-strait issues,” the joint statement said. On Friday, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un supervised an artillery demonstration drill of “super-large multiple rocket” launchers aimed at South Korea, Pyongyang state media said on Friday.

The development comes a day after South Korea said North Korea fired about 10 short-range ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan on Thursday and days after an unsuccessful satellite rocket launch by Pyongyang. North Korea has been pursuing its nuclear and missile programmes despite criticism by the US, Japan, South Korea and other regional allies and partners.

The United States has condemned North Korea’s May 27 and May 29 launches using ballistic missile technology, which it said is “in direct violation of multiple UN Security Council resolutions (UNSCRs).” These launches, it said, continue North Korea’s “reckless behaviour,” “which poses a grave threat to the Korean Peninsula, the region, and international peace and security and undermine the global non-proliferation regime,” the US State Department said.

Meanwhile, the US and Japan have emphasized the significance of the “new era of strategic global cooperation” between Washington and Tokyo, State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a statement Campbell on Friday also met with Japanese Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Okano Masataka and USAID Deputy Administrator Isobel Coleman in Washington, DC for the first US-Japan Strategic Diplomacy and Development Dialogue.

US President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Kishida had announced the Dialogue during the latter’s visit to Washington DC on April 10. The two countries reinforced US and Japanese commitments to collaborate with developing partners to address shared challenges. They also stressed the importance of quality infrastructure and sustainability for driving economic prosperity for all.
