"Congress and its 'Ghamandia' alliance lost their sleep because of development work of govt: PM Modi 2

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday hit out at the Congress and said that the ‘ghamandia’ alliance are afraid of the pace at which development is being undertaken by the present government in the country. Addressing the event during the inauguration of the Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway in Gurugram, the Prime Minister said that there was a ‘delay’ earlier but not there is ‘delivery’. The government’s focus is on building high-speed corridors.

“The Congress and its ‘ghamandia’ alliance have problems with the inauguration of these development projects. They are sleepless because of these development projects. The Congress doesn’t have the strength to talk about development. When I inaugurate developmental projects, they call it the ‘Chunavi strategy’. Negativity, and only negativity, is the true characteristic of Congress,” PM Modi said. The Prime Minister further said that in the last 10 years country has changed so much but the views of Congress and its friends have not changed.

“Only Congress and its arrogant alliance are facing the biggest problem that’s why they are saying that Modi is doing work worth lakhs of crores of rupees because of elections. The country has changed so much in 10 years, but the views of Congress and its friends have not changed. The number of their vision is still the same – all negative.” He further asserted that previous governments used to make a small plan and hold a small program and keep talking about it for five years.

“The earlier governments used to make a small plan and hold a small program and keep talking about it for five years. Not even three months have passed since 2024, and in such a short time, the foundation stone of projects worth Rs 10 lakh crore has been laid and inaugurated,” he added. PM Modi said that changing problems into possibility is Modi’s guarantee, Dwarka Expressway is a big example adding that the pace of development work will increase many times in next five years,

“India of the 21st century is an India of big vision. This is an India of big goals. Today’s India cannot compromise on the pace of progress. I cannot think small, nor do I dream small, nor do I make small resolutions. Whatever I want… I want it big, I want huge and I want it at a fast pace because in 2047 I want to see the country as a ‘Developed India’,” he said. The Prime Minister asserted that fast development of infrastructure would help India become the third largest economy in the world.

Earlier today, to help improve traffic flow and ease congestion between Delhi and Gurugram on NH-48, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Haryana section of the landmark Dwarka Expressway. PM Modi also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 112 National Highway projects spread across the country worth about Rs 1 lakh crore.

The 19-km-long Haryana section of the 8-lane Dwarka Expressway has been built at a cost of around Rs 4,100 crore and includes two packages of 10.2 km long Delhi-Haryana Border to Basai Rail-over-Bridge (ROB) and 8.7 km long Basai ROB to Kherki Daula. It will also provide direct connectivity to the IGI Airport in Delhi and the Gurugram Bypass.

Electoral bonds: SC rejects SBI's plea for time extension, directs it to furnish details by tomorrow 4

A five-judge Constitution bench of the Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the State Bank of India’s plea seeking extension of time and directed it to furnish the details of electoral bonds to the Election Commission by close of business hours on March 12.

A bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud also directed the EC to publish the details shared by the bank on its official website by 5 pm on March 15.

During the hearing, the bench, also comprising Justices Sanjiv Khanna, B R Gavai, J B Pardiwala, and Manoj Misra, took note of the submissions of senior advocate Harish Salve, appearing for the SBI, that more time was needed for collating the details and matching them as the information were kept in two different silos with its branches.

He further said if the matching exercise is to be done away with, the SBI can complete the exercise within three weeks.

The bench said it had not directed the SBI to match the details of donors and donee with other information.

The SBI has to just open the sealed cover, collate the details and give the information to the Election Commission, the apex court said.

It also asked the bank about the steps taken by it for complying with the directions given by the apex court in its February 15 judgment.

”In the last 26 days, what steps have you taken? Your application is silent on that,” the bench said.

It asked the SBI to do a ”plain disclosure” as per the court’s judgment.

In a landmark verdict delivered on February 15, a five-judge Constitution bench scrapped the Centre’s electoral bonds scheme that allowed anonymous political funding, calling it ”unconstitutional” and ordered disclosure by the Election Commission of donors, the amount donated by them and the recipients by March 13.

The SBI had sought an extension till June 30 to disclose the details of each electoral bond encashed by political parties before the scheme was scrapped.

A separate plea, seeking initiation of contempt action against the SBI, was also heard by the bench.

China says more Indian troops at Himalayan border won’t ease tensions

China says more Indian troops at Himalayan border won't ease tensions 6

China believes that India’s move to add more troops at their disputed border is “not conducive to easing tensions”, a foreign ministry spokesperson said on Friday.

India has freed up a contingent of 10,000 soldiers, previously deployed at its western border, to strengthen its disputed border with China, according to several media reports. The two countries have previously agreed to maintain dialogue through military and diplomatic channels, and recently held a constructive meeting on resolving border issues in the western section of the China-India border.

India has deployed 10,000 soldiers from its western border to guard its 532 km (331 mile) border with China in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh, bordering the Himalayas, according to Indian media. “China is committed to working with India to safeguard the peace and stability of the border areas,” Mao Ning, a spokesperson for the Chinese foreign ministry, said. “We believe that India’s practice is not conducive to safeguarding peace and is not conducive to easing tensions.”

Mao added that “India’s increase in military deployments in border areas does not help to calm the situation in the border areas or to safeguard peace and safety in these areas.” India and China share a 3,800-km frontier, much of it poorly demarcated. At least 20 Indian soldiers and four Chinese troops were killed in clashes in the area in mid-2020.

Both militaries have fortified positions and deployed troops and equipment there in the last few years.

Congress directs frontal organisations to publicise five poll guarantees for youth 8

Ahead of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, Congress has directed states governed by the party and party front al organisations to ensure dissemination of the party’s five-guarantees for a new ‘Rozgar Revolution.’ The Congress directed state leaders to publicize the Youth guarantee scheme launched by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Thursday.

Congress guarantees an annual job package of Rs 1 lakh for diploma holders up to the age of 25, a commitment to enact stringent laws to get rid of paper leaks, the establishment of social security measures in the gig economy, the fulfilment of 30 lakh government job vacancies, and the initiation of ‘Yuva Roshni’ aimed at fostering startups among individuals below 40 years of age. The first point included ‘Bharti Bharosa’ or recruitment trust by the Congress party wherein the party guaranteed recruitment to the youth and asserted that all the 30 lakh vacancies in the Central Government would be filled.

“Congress guarantees that it will create 30 lakh jobs in the Central Government, according to a published jobs calendar. There are 10 lakh sanctioned posts that are vacant in Central Ministries/Departments. We will also create new jobs, our party manifesto will outline the details,” the All India Congress Committee stated on Thursday. The second guarantee said that the ‘Pehli naukri pakki’ (1st job guaranteed) would be confirmed and that the grand old party would provide apprenticeship training to every Diploma or Degree holder youth below 25 years of age in the government or private sector.

The release read, “Congress guarantees a new Right to Apprenticeship Act to provide a one-year apprenticeship with a private or a public sector company to every diploma holder or college graduate below the age of 25. Apprentices will get 1 lakh a year (Rs 8,500/month).” It further mentioned ‘Paper leak se mukti’ (Freedom from paper leak) and said that the party would put an end to the paper leaks by bringing a new law.

“Congress guarantees new laws to ensure the highest standards of integrity and fairness in the conduct of public examinations that will prevent paper leaks from destroying the future of crores of youth,” it added. The fourth guarantee stated financial assistance under ‘Yuva Roshni’ and stated that a fund would be created with an amount of Rs 5 thousand crore which will be distributed in all the districts of the country.

“Congress will create a Rs. 5,000 crore corpus, with allotments spread across all districts of the country for a period of five years. Youth below the age of 40 years can avail start-up funding for their business enterprises in any sector,” it stated. The fifth guarantee said that Congress would offer social security in the gig economy for the welfare of the people.

“The Congress guarantees to bring legislation to ensure better working conditions and social security for lakhs and lakhs of youth who seek employment every year in the gig economy. Gig workers earn less than other workers according to NCAER data and their incomes fell between 2019 and 2022. Congress passed the Rajasthan Platform-Based Gig Workers Act in 2023. In Karnataka, we offer 2 lakh life insurance and Rs 2 lakh accident insurance. In Telangana, we have promised 25 lakh accident insurance and 10 lakh health insurance through the Rajiv Aarogyasri scheme,” it stated. Congress’s manifesto committee, led by former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, on Wednesday, handed over a copy of the draft manifesto to party President Mallikarjun Kharge at his residence in Delhi.

The Lok Sabha polls are scheduled to be held in April-May this year.

No question of claiming Kolhapur LS seat if father gets ticket: Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati 12

Former Rajya Sabha member Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati has said that as his father Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj is likely to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election from Kolhapur, there is no question of him staking a claim for the seat.

Speculation is rife that Shahu Maharaj, a descendant of the iconic 17th century ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, would be the candidate for the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) from Kolhapur.

The MVA- comprising the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) headed by Uddhav Thackeray and NCP (Sharadchandra Pawar) – is yet to announce its candidates for the 48 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra.

Its leaders have been holding hectic parleys for the last several days to reach a consensus on the allocation of seats.

”It was confirmed that I would be contesting the Lok Sabha elections, from Kolhapur or Nashik constituency, but when it was decided that Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, my father would be contesting the elections from Kolhapur… it is the people’s wish and in this scenario, there is no question of my contesting the Lok Sabha seat,” Sambhaji Raje told reporters on Wednesday.

He said if his father gets the ticket, his entire effort will be directed to ensure Shahu Maharaj’s victory in Kolhapur.

Mumbai Central Park around 320 acres will be constructed here…” said Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde.

Earlier, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal provided insights into the Coastal Road Project on Saturday. While speaking to ANI, Chahal assured that pending work is being expedited. “Some work is still pending. I did surveillance of the entire area last night. Weight tests are going on to see what effect heavy vehicles will have on the road. All this will be completed in the next two to three days. I believe the coastal road will be inaugurated by February 28-29 or March 2-3,” Iqbal Singh Chahal said.

If one person takes different stand, it doesn't mean family has split: Supriya Sule 16

NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule has said if one member of a large family takes a different stand, it does not mean there is a split within the family.

She also noted that BJP leaders these days do not talk about alleged corruption of her party.

Sule, however, did not name Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who parted ways with his uncle and Sule’s father Sharad Pawar last year to join the Shiv Sena-BJP government.

”Our family has around 120 to 125 members, including small kids, and in such a big family, if one person puts forth a different opinion, it does not signify a split,” Sule told reporters in Pune on Wednesday.

”Our family is united and it will remain united forever,” the Lok Sabha member from Baramati said.

Asked about Union minister Amit Shah’s statement that Sharad Pawar wanted to make her chief minister, Sule said she was thankful to Shah for ”freeing the NCP of corruption”.

”Whenever he used to come to Maharashtra, he used to refer to the NCP as ‘naturally corrupt party’, but now no big leaders from the BJP talk about corruption. Whatever allegations he had made, no one talks about it, and that is why, I am very thankful to the BJP and Shah,” she said.

”There is dynasty politics in his own party,” Sule claimed.

Ex-DANICS officer arrested, sent to judicial custody for 'false complaint' against Delhi Govt Secretary 18

Delhi Police has arrested former DANICS (Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Island Civil Services) officer A V Prem Nath in connection with inducing the filing of a false complaint against IAS officer and Delhi government’s Special Secretary YVVJ Rajasekhar. Nath was arrested and produced before a district court in Delhi on Wednesday, which has sent him to judicial custody.

An FIR was registered in Delhi on June 16, 2023, on the complaint of Nakul Kashyap in which he alleged that AV Prem Nath an officer in GNCT, Delhi induced him to make false complaint against Rajasekhar, Secretary Vigilance Government to National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD), under the provisions of SC/ST Act. Nath allegedly created a fake email ID in Kashyap’s name and circulated a fabricated complaint against Rajasekhar to various GNCTD officials.

The initial investigation, carried out in the central district, prompted the transfer of the case to the Crime Branch on November 3, 2023. Despite Nath’s attempts to quash the FIR, the Delhi High Court dismissed his plea on January 22 this year. Subsequently, he evaded joining the investigation, leading to a non-bailable warrant being issued against him on February 22. To trace Nath, law enforcement authorities initiated technical surveillance and conducted raids at multiple locations. He was finally located travelling in the Andhra Pradesh Sampark Kranti Express to Tirupathi.

With the assistance of the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP), Nath was detained at Tirupathi railway station. The police team, thereafter, transported Nath back to Delhi, where he was produced before the Duty Magistrate at Tis Hazari Court on Wednesday and was sent to judicial custody.

Niranjan Hiranandani and his son Darshan under ED scanner

Niranjan Hiranandani and his son Darshan under ED scanner 20

Niranjan Hiranandani and his son Darshan Hiranandani who is said to be Dubai-based and their group entities came under ED scanner. Last month ED did its combing operation at three locations in Mumbai, including the Group entities’ corporate and registered offices in city and the residential premises located in south Mumbai, and a group housing project’s site office in Panvel. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) questioned him for long hours. The agency alleged the group units had supposedly received funds over ₹400 crore via the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) route for the housing projects but the utilisation of the amount in these projects was not as per the set of government guidelines. One of the group entities which had received the FDI did not repay loans taken from a consortium of banks and was declared a Non-Performing Asset.

As per the information available with the agency, Niranjan Hiranandani and his family members were the beneficiaries of an offshore trust, which had amassed assets of more than USD 60 million. The group was earlier also named in the Pandora Papers. ED’s probe also learnt that the Hiranandanis had allegedly set up at least 25 companies and a Trust in the British Virgin Islands between 2006 and 2008. The luxurious Hiranandani Garden and other landmarks in Powai are allegedly built on land reserved for mass housing in a real estate scam worth Rs45,000 crore today. Some 344 acres of land which would have given decent housing for the common man was turned into living for the well-off by Hiranandani builders.

The Bombay High Court has lifted its earlier stay on the probe into the alleged Rs 45,000-crore Powai real estate scam, making way for the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) to restart investigating Hiranandani Developers, senior state bureaucrat Thomas Benjamin and other unknown persons. The order has given a boost to the efforts of social activist Santosh Daundkar and IPS officer-turned-lawyer YP Singh. The mammoth fraud stood exposed due to the diligent efforts made by the then Commissioner of Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) A Ratnakar Gaikwad.

In July 2012, based on the complaint by social activist Santosh Daundkar, a special court had asked the anti-corruption bureau (ACB) to file an FIR in the matter against Niranjan Hiranandani, TC Benjamin and other unknown persons for the Rs30,000 crore land scam (Rs45,000 crore in current valuation). Benjamin, who was earlier additional chief secretary of urban development department and now additional chief secretary of the public health department of the Government of Maharashtra, then moved the HC to challenge the probe. A single judge on 10 July 2012 granted an interim stay on the investigation, pending hearing of the case.

The relief has been short-lived as the Bombay HC bench comprising justice Sadhana S Jadhav and justice AS Oka made following observation in the order dated 25 September 2012—“By granting ad interim relief, the writ court cannot interfere with the process of investigation. Hence, we decline to continue the ad interim relief granted earlier.”

Daundkar alleged that the state had given 344 acres in Powai on an 80-year lease to Hiranandani builders in 1986 to build small houses for mass housing. The complainant accused the developer of violating terms and conditions of the tripartite agreement it had signed with the state government and infrastructure body MMRDA in 1986. According to the agreement, 50% of the houses were supposed to be 430 sq feet and remaining 50% of 860 sq ft size, but barring the tenements compulsorily required to be surrendered to the government, there was not a single tenement in the entire complex of 430 sq feet. Only luxury apartments were constructed for the rich that get premium valuations.

The complaint alleges that instead of taking due action against the guilty public servants and private persons, accused principal secretary, urban development department, Thomas Benjamin, and other suspect officers in the Government of Maharashtra started doing a fraud, whereby they started indulging in cunning acts so as to help accused No. 1 (Mr Hiranandani) come out of this scam. The complaint states that Mr Benjamin took numerous dubious decisions such as land not to be taken back even though it was meant for mass housing. To permit 100% extra FSI to be used on account of TDR without putting in the stipulation of mass housing even though the agreement condition stipulated that every form of FSI shall be used for mass housing. To not to insist on 15% of tenements to be surrendered to Government of Maharashtra on account of construction done by using TDR FSI. As per the agreement every form of FSI, including the TDR FSI had to be reckoned and 15% of GROSS FSI (i.e. of both normal FSI and TDR FSI) had to be given to Government of Maharashtra at stipulated concessional rates in the form of small tenements. To condone the infringement of making massive luxurious houses instead of making small houses for mass housing. Permitting the retention of illegally merged tenements so as to give them a shape of large luxurious houses. To use the liberal rules of 2007 even though the agreement for mass housing was signed in the year 1986 and that rules of 2007 could never have been applied for a land given for mass housing in the year 1986. To exclude lift, lobby and many other constructions from FSI computation by using the Development Control Regulations of 1991 whereas in the applicable rule during the year 1986 was Development Control Rules, 1967, which was not so much liberal. To permit construction of commercial areas in the complex whereas the agreement of 1986 did not make any such provision and was strictly meant for mass housing. It was for this illegal relaxation to the sacrosanct provisions of the agreement that commercial buildings of enormous sizes have come up in the place which was to be for mass housing. Creation of a legal fiction whereby the matter could be settled by imposing fine. Initially a fine of about Rs2,000 crore was proposed. Now it is learnt that the same has been brought down to about Rs200 crore or even lesser. To let off Niranjan Hiranandani without facing trial for criminal breach of trust, and violation of the Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Act, 1976 and also the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. To not to take any action against the public servants who allowed this fraud to take place right before their eyes for almost 20 years. To permit Accused Niranjan Hiranandani to not to pull apart the construction which was under way and half done and to convert the same into small residences.
