Curfew imposed in Haryana's violence-hit Nuh district 2

Authorities on Tuesday imposed a curfew in Haryana’s Nuh district where two home guards were killed and several injured following violence that erupted over an attempt to stop a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession.

Curfew has been clamped on Nuh district, Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij said on Tuesday.

The situation in Nuh continues to be tense. However, there were no reports of any fresh violence on Tuesday. Security has been beefed up in Nuh and other areas, officials said.

Two home guards were killed and many others, including several policemen, were injured on Monday as a mob tried to stop a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession, pelting stones and setting cars on fire.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday said ”strictest action” will be taken against those responsible for the incident.

”Today’s incident is unfortunate. I appeal to all the people to maintain peace in the state. The guilty will not be spared at any cost, and strictest action will be taken against them,” the chief minister said in a tweet in Hindi.

Sambhaji Bhide created controversy to sideline the Manipur issue

Sambhaji Bhide created controversy to sideline the Manipur issue 4

The burning Manipur issue has created a lot of clamor against the ruling party, the BJP, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The entire nation is saddened because the BJP, the center, and the state have failed to control the violence and brutality against women in Manipur. Parliament was stalled for several days because leaders of the opposition wanted discussion or dialogue from PM Modi.

Amid all this ruckus, the founder of Shri Shiv Pratishthan, Sambhaji Bhide, had made some controversial statements against Mahatma Gandhi, and that has successfully diverted all the attention of the opposition party from Manipur to Mahatma. He even claimed that people unnecessarily give importance to Pandit Nehru in the freedom struggle. Bhide said there was not an iota of contribution by Pandit Nehru to the freedom struggle.

Pressure was mounted on the incumbent BJP-led government in Maharashtra to arrest Bhide. Condemning Bhide’s remarks, Maharashtra Deputy CM and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “Mahatma Gandhi is viewed as the leader of the history of India’s freedom struggle. Such a statement against him is inappropriate, and people will not tolerate it. The state government will take appropriate action in this case. Insulting Mahatma Gandhi will not be tolerated under any circumstances.”

On the other hand, Ajit Pawar, who is part of the incumbent government, also demanded the arrest of Sambhaji Bhide. The Amravati police have already registered the police complaint against Sambhaji Bhide under IPC Section 153 A—promoting enmity between two groups. This is a cognizable offense with three years of imprisonment and a penalty. Earlier, former Maharashtra Congress chief minister Prithviraj Chavan brought up Bhide’s remarks against Mahatma Gandhi on the floor of the House in the Maharashtra state assembly monsoon session and demanded the arrest of Bhide. Former Maharashtra cabinet minister and Congress MLA Yashomati Thakur had asked “for whose permission the BJP-led government is waiting” when there were demands for Bhide to be arrested.

Surprisingly, no Congress leaders know about the book that Bhide referred to. We personally spoke to dozens of Congress leaders, each of whom told us that they had not read the book or were not even aware that such a book was available online. Many opposition leaders said that they don’t know the writer A. Ghosh, and some of them said, We have ordered the book; we will read it and seek appropriate action against the writer. Political think tanks look at this entire controversy as a diversion tactic; they believe that Bhide was assigned to make such a statement by the BJP to divert attention from the burning issue of Manipur, which has severely embraced the BJP.

A. Ghosh is an Indian writer. He won India’s highest literary honor. Ghosh worked at the Indian Express newspaper in New Delhi and several academic institutions. Ghosh holds two Lifetime Achievement awards and four honorary doctorates. In 2007, he was awarded the Padma Shri, one of India’s highest honors, by the President of India. This most acclaimed writer’s book was missed by the Congress leaders.

Ghosh, in his book “The Kuran and The Kafir,” writes that some say that Gandhi’s natural father was the Moslem employer of Gandhi’s father. Gandhi’s father used to work for a Moslem landowner who had stolen money from the cash box and fled. He was a fugitive for three years, and his wife was taken over by the Moslem landlord and placed in his harem. Gandhi was born during this period, when his father was a fugitive. There are people who assert that Gandhi’s father used to come inside the harem like a thief to sleep with his wife, and he indeed was the true father, but that seems highly unlikely. However! Gandhi had promised his mother to be a strict vegetarian. These promises he kept all throughout his life. Otherwise, he was a servant of Islam in his political dealings.”

No one knows from where A. Gosh has gathered this kind of information; there is no authentication to his claims. This can be propaganda, but surprisingly, no one has objected to his book, and the book is in the best category at Amazon. Learned Congress leaders should have questioned the motive of the author, or they could have demanded the ban on this said book, but the irony is that until Bhide’s statement, they were clueless about it.

No congress leader so far has taken any action against the writer or the book; they all went after 90-year-old Bhide and made several condemnations and complaints against him. Bhide is accused of making offensive remarks about Gandhi in his speech during a program at Bharat Mangal Hall in the Badnera Road area of Amravati district on Thursday, July 27. The Rajapeth police in Amravati booked Sambhaji Bhide under Indian Penal Code Section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony). Though his statements were not against any religion, caste, creed, or group, he just stated the paragraph written in the book. The question is, will the Congress leaders take action against Bose? Or will they haunt the book reader?

As the Bill to replace the Centre’s Ordinance on control of services in Delhi is likely to be tabled in Parliament this week, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday moved a notice to Lok Sabha General Secretary opposing the introduction of the bill, saying that “it violates the principle of federalism, which is part of the basic structure of the Constitution”.

In his notice, the Lok Sabha MP said, “I give notice of my intention to oppose the introduction of the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023 under Rule 72 of the Rule of Procedure on the following grounds, as it violated Article 123 and the Bill also violates the principle of federalism which is part of the basic structure of the Constitution.”

Earlier on Friday, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Arjun Ram Meghwal informed Lok Sabha that the bill is in the government’s business for next week. Rajya Sabha was informed of the government business for this week by Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs V Muraleedharan. The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, replaces the Ordinance, which was promulgated in May this year.

The government is now pushing for its legislative business in the ongoing Monsoon session, which has been disrupted, owing to a “logjam” over the Manipur issue, since it began. A copy of the contentious Bill has been circulated to all MPs, sources said on Monday.

The Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2023, seeks to replace the ordinance brought by the Centre in May which excluded ‘services’ from the legislative competence of the Delhi legislative assembly. The ordinance was brought days after the Supreme Court judgement on the control of services in Delhi. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been seeking opposition parties’ support against the Ordinance.

Members of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance will oppose the Bill in Parliament, while the government has expressed confidence in getting the bill passed.

A Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable on Monday shot dead four persons on board a running train near Palghar railway station in Maharashtra, an official said.

Constable Chetan Kumar Choudhary fired from his automatic weapon, killing an RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) and three other passengers of the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express shortly after 5 am, the official said.

According to a senior police official, the accused RPF constable was mentally unstable.

Palghar is around 100 km from Mumbai.

The constable opened fire on his escort duty in-charge ASI Tika Ram Meena in the running train, the official said.

After killing his senior, the constable went to another bogie and shot dead three passengers, the official added.

The accused then tried to escape from the train between Mira Road and Dahisar, but was later nabbed by the Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel and his weapon was also seized, he said.

The accused is in the custody of the Mira Road railway police, the official said.

The bodies were taken out of the train at Borivali railway station, he said.

Congress leader from Hyderabad claimed his wife died of heart attack; turns out he murdered her 9

Hyderabad police have arrested Yadavelli Vallabh Reddy, the son of a Congress leader from Nalgonda area, for allegedly murdering his wife at their residence in Himayat Nagar, Hyderabad.

According to the police, the couple, Vallabh Reddy and Lahari Reddy (27), had frequent squabbles, and on the night of July 13, 2023, a fight broke out between them and lasted until the next morning. Vallabh Reddy brutally assaulted Lahiri by banging her head against the door and kicking her in the stomach. Yadavelli Vallabh Reddy claimed that his wife, Lahari, died of a heart attack.

He had brought Lahari to a corporate hospital with a head injury on July 14. Doctors declared her dead.

Reddy had told doctors that Lahari fell down while doing household work and suffered head injuries.

Lahari Reddy’s father, Koti Jaipal Reddy, had lodged a complaint with the Narayanguda police, raising doubts about the circumstances surrounding her death.

Jaipal Reddy told police that he received a distress call that Lahari had fallen and sustained head injuries. When he rushed to the hospital with his wife, they were informed that Lahari had suffered a heart attack.

While speaking to local media, the Police said that they have registered a case under Sections 302 (murder) and 201 (tampering with evidence) after concluding that there was no history of seizures with the deceased and arrested Vallabh.

Vallabh Reddy had remained composed, performed last rites, and participated in subsequent rituals.

However, the autopsy report revealed that Lahari had also sustained internal injuries in her abdomen.

Police arrested Vallabh Reddy on murder charges. He was also booked for causing the disappearance of evidence.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the accused thrashed his wife during an argument on the night of July 13. He allegedly pushed her against a wall, resulting in the head injury.

They had married last year and were residing at Himayat Nagar in Hyderabad.

You find a girl for him: Sonia to Haryana women farmers as they ask her to get Rahul married 11

“Get Rahul married” is what some women farmers from Haryana told Congress leader Sonia Gandhi during their interaction with her and she in turn asked them to find a girl for her son, with Rahul Gandhi saying ”it will happen”.

The concern by the group of women was expressed when they met the Gandhi family at a luncheon hosted by Sonia Gandhi for them at her residence, a promise made by Rahul Gandhi during his recent visit to their fields.

Fulfilling his promise, the former Congress chief invited some women farmers from Haryana’s Sonipat district to his mother’s home and shared food with them.

During the conversation at her 10, Janpath residence, a woman asks Sonia Gandhi, ”Get Rahul married” to which Sonia Gandhi tells her ”You find a girl for him”.

At this, Rahul Gandhi said, ”It will happen…”.

He is also seen being fed by one of the women.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra tells the women that ”Rahul was naughtier than her, but she got the scolding instead”.

On July 8, Rahul Gandhi made an impromptu stop at Madina village in Sonipat. He interacted with people and spent time with farmers working in agricultural lands.

He also took part in paddy sowing, drove a tractor and ate food brought by women labourers working in the fields, party leaders from the state said.

Rahul Gandhi had then promised them to invite them over to Delhi for a ‘Delhi Darshan’ as they said they had never visited the national capital despite living so close.

During his visit, Rahul Gandhi had made the farm women talk to his sister Priyanka Gandhi and they had expressed the desire that she invites them over for food to her residence.

”A day to remember for Maa, Priyanka and me with some very special guests. Delhi darshan of Sonipat’s farmer sisters, lunch with them at home and lots of talk. Got priceless gifts – desi ghee, sweet lassi, homemade pickles and lots of love,” Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi on Saturday while sharing the video of the meeting.

”Rahul Gandhi had promised to take the farmer sisters of Sonipat to Delhi. Farmer sisters came to Delhi, the promise was fulfilled,” the Congress said on its Twitter handle.

In the video, the Gandhis are seen sharing a light moment with the rural women and offering them lunch. Rahul Gandhi is heard asking if they liked the food and enquired whether everyone has had sweets. He is also seen distributing chocolates to the visiting children and girls.

Congress demands strict action over Sambhaji Bhide’s remarks on Gandhi 13

Maharashtra Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Balasaheb Thorat on Friday demanded strict action against right-wing activist Sambhaji Bhide for his alleged derogatory remarks on Mahatma Gandhi.

Speaking in the legislative assembly, Thorat said recent comments by Bhide were shameful and asked the state government to make a statement in the House on action taken against him.

“Sambhaji Bhide has a twisted mindset. His comments about the Father of the Nation have disturbed the country. He repeatedly makes controversial comments, and it needs to be found out who is backing him for political interests. We want strict action against him,” said the former minister.

The Congress MLA, without taking names, claimed a machinery was working to finish off progressive ideology.

Bhide, speaking at an event in eastern Maharashtra’s Amravati district earlier this week, reportedly made certain controversial references about Mahatma Gandhi’s family. In the past, too, the Hindutva leader has drawn flak for his controversial comments.

In Delhi, a cousin murders a 23-year-old woman in a park after she rejects his marriage proposal 15

Nargis, a 23-year-old Delhi woman who was allegedly murdered by her cousin for declining his marriage proposal, wanted to be financially independent and was studying for government job exams, her family said on Friday.

They said the accused, Irfan (28), used to live with the family around six years ago but was asked to leave after he allegedly started harassing Nargis.

The victim and accused were first cousins, with their mothers being sisters. The woman was allegedly killed with an iron rod by him inside a park in south Delhi’s Malviya Nagar on Friday, police said.

Her father, Suljat, who works as a motor mechanic, said she was her only daughter. He has two sons. “I want justice for her,” he said. “The accused should get strict punishment. We will not forgive him for what he has done.”

The accused has been arrested.

Nargis’ brother Sameer said, “Around six months ago, our family turned down the marriage proposal of the accused. My sister did not want to marry him. Irfan is from Auraiya in Uttar Pradesh and came to our house around five to six years ago. My father trained him as a mechanic.”

“When he started harassing my sister, she complained to my father, who scolded him and sent him to his native place. He went back to Auraiya around one-and-a-half years ago, where he started his own work. However, when his business did not work, he returned to the national capital and started living in the Sangam Vihar area,” Sameer said.

Ashfaq, a neighbor of the victim, said Irfan was preparing for a job in the army but failed last year and was currently working as a food delivery agency.

Sameer added, “He (Irfan) knew that Nargis used to go to steno coaching classes every day. He followed her for a few days and killed her inside the park on Friday. My sister was a bright student. She did her graduation in Hindi with honors and was preparing for government job exams.”

A family friend said Nargis’ parents were not ready for the marriage as he does not have a permanent job.

Police got information around noon that a man had hit a woman in the head with an iron rod in the Vijay Mandal Park in Shivalik A Block of Malviya Nagar and fled. The woman’s body was found under a bench with her head bleeding and an iron rod lying near her.

According to the police, Nargis and Irfan were in a relationship earlier, and there were also talks about their marriage, but Nargis’ family finally disapproved of it.

Nargis then stopped talking to Irfan, which made him even more agitated, the police said.

"Not going to raise political issues, but to understand plight of people": Opposition members on Manipur visit 17

A 21-member delegation of the Opposition alliance, I.N.D.I.A, boarded a flight to Imphal on Saturday, saying their two-day visit to violence-hit Manipur will be aimed at assessing “the real situation on the ground”. An exclusive ANI footage showed the members of the delegation boarding a flight to Imphal on Saturday morning.

Before departing for the Northeast state, the Opposition leaders said they will focus on taking stock of the situation on the ground and “not raise political issues” during their two-day visit. Speaking to ANI before boarding the Manipur flight, Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, who is part of the 21-member delegation, said, “The PM hasn’t even made an attempt to visit Manipur as yet. Only after receiving a jolt from the Opposition did the Centre wake up to the situation.”

Earlier, on Saturday, Chowdhury, who heads the Congress in his native West Bengal, said the visit was about understanding the “real situation” in Manipur. The state has been racked ehtnic strife and violence over an order by the Manipur High Court, asking the state government to consider adding the Meitei community to the list of Scheduled Tribes.

The visit follows a chorus from the Opposition members for a debate on the Manipur situation and a statement by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has resulted in repeated disruptions and adjournments in both Houses of Parliament. “We are not going there to raise political issues but to understand the pain and plight of the people of Manipur. We have been appealing to the government to find a solution to the issues that are plaguing the state,” Chowdhury told ANI.

“It isn’t the law and order but the communal violence there that we are worried about. The issues in Manipur are affecting neighbouring states as well. The government has not fulfilled its responsibility (to restore peace and law and order). We are going to assess the real situation on the ground in Manipur,” Chowdhury added. Gaurav Gogoi, a Congress Lok Sabha member from Assam, who tabled a motion of no confidence against the Centre over the Manipur situation, told ANI, “We wish to place the concerns and plight of the people of Manipur before the Parliament. Those who used to talk about one India have split Manipur along ethnic lines.”

DMK MP Kanimozhi said the Opposition delegation has sought permission to meet the Manipur Governor during their two-day visit to the violence-hit state. “We are going to meet the people of Manipur and tell them that we stand with them and are fighting for them. We have asked for permission to meet the Manipur Governor as well. We expect the PM to give a detailed statement in Parliament after a discussion on Manipur,” said, Kanimozhi.

The 21-member Opposition delegation, from both Houses, includes Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Gaurav Gogoi, K Suresh and Phulo Devi Netam of the Congress; Rajiv Ranjan Lalan Singh of the JDU; Sushmita Dev from Trinamool Congress; Kanimozhi from DMK; Sandosh Kumar of the CPI; AA Rahim from CPI(M), Manoj Kumar Jha of RJD; Javed Ali Khan of SP; Mahua Maji of JMM; PP Mohammed Faizal of NCP; Aneel Prasad Hegde of JDU, ET Mohammed Basheer of IUML; NK Premachandran of RSP; Sushil Gupta of AAP; Arvind Sawant of Shiv Sena (UBT); D Ravikumar of VCK; Thiru Thol Thirumavalavan also of VCK; and Jayant Singh of the RLD.

Four killed due to electrocution during Muharram preparation in J'khand 19

Four people were killed and 10 others injured on Saturday Morning after they came in contact with a high-tension wire while preparing for a Muharram procession in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district, police said.

The incident occurred at Khetko village under the Petarwar Police Station limits, around 80 km from the state capital Ranchi, when their religious flag, made of iron, came in contact with a live wire, Bokaro Superintendent of Police Priyadarshi Alok said.

“The incident occurred around 6 am on Saturday while they were preparing for a Muharram procession. They were carrying a religious flag and its pole was made of iron. It somehow came in contact with a high-tension electric wire of 11,000 volts,” the SP told PTI.

All the injured people were taken to a nearby hospital, he said. Eight of them were referred to the Bokaro General Hospital where four succumbed to their injuries and the condition of three were stated to be critical, the officer added.
