Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Saturday said he found Maharashtra better than Delhi, and his experience has been that the people he thought to be “big” turned out to be very small when seen up close. Speaking at an event here, the BJP leader recounted a conversation he had had with a friend. He had lived in Delhi earlier when he was elected president of his party, Gadkari said, adding with a smile, “Delhi’s water is not good.” “Maharashtra is very nice. Mumbai is very good,” he further said, evoking laughter in the audience.

Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray on Saturday slammed the Eknath Shinde-led government for the loss of Tata-Airbus project and claimed that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) had “worked perfectly well” with the Centre than the current dispensation.


“When we talk about the double engine government…During the time of the MVA government, our double engine with the Centre worked perfectly well,” the former state minister said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) uses the term “double engine government” for the party or its ally’s government at the Centre and the state.

Maharashtra drops to number 4 in organ donation list

The number of organ donations in Maharashtra, where the country’s first heart and first cadaver kidney transplants took place, is falling.

Till 2019, Maharashtra led other states with 160 deceased donations that made liver, kidney, heart, lungs, among other organs available for 449 patients with end-stage disease. The topper has dropped to number four this year.

A tigress was found dead in Hingna area near here, a forest department official said on Saturday.

The big cat, about three-to-four years old, was found dead in a nullah at Chankapur village, around 25 km from here, late Friday night, he said.

The exact reason for her death was yet to be ascertained but it was suspected that she died after coming in contact with a live electric wire or trap.

The carcass was sent for autopsy and further probe is on, the official said.

A 72-year-old man residing in CBD-Belapur has purportedly become the first victim of sextortion incident in Navi Mumbai after he received a WhatsApp video call from a stranger woman, who became naked on the video call and attempted to seduce him.

Thereafter, two accused men, one of them posing as crime branch officer threatened to make his video call recording with the naked woman viral on social media and they compelled the victim senior citizen to gradually transfer a total Rs 1.27 lakhs for not making his video viral on social media.

The forest department caught a male leopard from Aarey Colony in Mumbai early Sunday morning, the second feline to be captured in the last five days, an official said.

The leopard walked into a cage trap set up in unit 15 of the Aarey Colony, a green belt in Mumbai’s western suburb of Goregaon and located close to the sprawling Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), he said.

It was later taken to a rescue center at the SGNP, the official said.

Five people were killed and one sustained injuries after a dilapidated building collapsed in Maharashtra’s Amravati.

The incident took place in the Prabhat Talkies cinema area of Amravati. “Five people died after the two-storey building collapsed. The building was already in a dilapidated condition,” officials said.

The injured person has been rushed to the Hospital. The rescue operation has been concluded. The investigation into the matter is underway.

Earlier in June, 19 people died after a four-storey building collapsed in Mumbai’s Kurla. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the Kurla building collapse incident and announced ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the deceased and Rs 50,000 to each injured, from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of those who lost their lives.

Maharashtra former Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakhs each to the families of those who died in the incident.

Earlier, rebel Shiv Sena MLA Mangesh Kudalkar expressed his grief over the loss of lives in the incident and announced that the family of the deceased will be given Rs 5 lakh each while the injured will get one lakh.

Earlier, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Additional Commissioner Ashwini Bhide said the collapsed building was dilapidated, since 2013, notices had been first given for its repair, and then for its demolition.

Minister Aaditya Thackeray also visited Kurla where the building collapsed and said that such property should be vacated on the notice of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

“Whenever BMC issues notices, (buildings) should be vacated themselves…otherwise, such incidents happen, which is unfortunate…It’s now important to take action on this,” Thackeray said.

Gujarat: Bridge collapsed on Machchhu river in Morbi ; Several people feared to injured

Several people are feared injured after a cable bridge collapsed on the Machchhu river in Gujarat’s Morbi area on Sunday.

Ambulances have reached the spot to carry injured to hospitals. Rescue operations are underway.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupender Patel said instructions have been given to the officials to arrange immediate treatment for the injured.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragedy of suspension bridge collapse in Morbi. Relief and rescue operations are ongoing by the system. The system has been instructed to arrange immediate treatment for the injured. I am in constant contact with the district administration in this regard,” the Chief Minister said.

Earlier on October 14, over 40 tourists were rescued from the Dudhsagar waterfalls in South Goa after a cable bridge collapsed due to heavy rains on Friday, according to an official statement.

The incident took place on October 14 evening due to the heavy rains along the Goa-Karnataka border, which resulted in the rise of water level at the waterfall.
