Shinde camp denies allegation of paid crowd on Dussehra rally

This year, Shiv Sena’s Dussehra Melava (Dussehra rally) organised by both Thackeray and the Shinde faction. After the Bombay High Court permitted Thackeray faction to organise an event at Shivaji Park, the Shinde camp organised their Dussehra rally at BKC ground, Mumbai.

After the party was divided into two groups, both factions fought in court over the party symbol and the historical Shivaji park ground for the rally. However, the Supreme Court gave orders to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take a decision on the party symbol. The Bombay high court decides to allow Uddhav Thackeray’s faction to organise the Dussehra rally event.

To organise the event, both camps started preparations to make the event successful. Almost 4,000 state transport buses and private vehicles were booked for supporters to attend the rally by Shinde Camp. Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik organised at least 2.5 lac food packets at the BKC ground. MLA’s arranged the transportation and food for supporters of their constituency to reach Mumbai.

However, the videos gone viral of the supporters show in some media reports that they don’t know about the event. It seems they are not aware of the Dussehra Rally and the leaders of the party, as per media reports.

The Opposition and Shiv Sena Thackeray camp mocked Shinde’s camp, dubbing them the “Paid and Fake crowd.” Furthermore, the Shinde camp denies the video and calls it propaganda intended to defame the party.

Dada Bhuse, Minister of Ports and Mining, Maharashtra State, told Afternoon Voice, “I don’t deny those videos, but what is wrong if 1% of people among 2 lacs don’t know about the event? I don’t see anything wrong with that. “

Shiv Sena MLA Bhavana Gavali said, “This clip might be purposely made to show the negative of our rally and defame us.”

Shiv sena MLA Sada Sarvankar said to Afternoon Voice, “We went to the rally to listen to the thoughts of Hindutva. I didn’t see any video or any person who doesn’t know about the rally. “

Sheetal Mhatre, Spokesperson of Shiv Sena, stated, “People came from remote parts of Maharashtra to witness the event. These things happen while organising the big events. “

The Thackeray faction alleges that the Shinde faction spent 10 crore rupees to arrange the crowd.

Sheetal Mhatre denied the allegations and said, “Give us the proof that we spent that much money. They don’t have any work to do. That’s why they are alleging baselessly.”

Enforcement Directorate reaches Asansol jail to interrogate a prisoner arrested in Cattle smuggling case

A team of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday reached Asansol jail to interrogate Saigal Hussain arrested in a cattle smuggling case.

Hussain is the personal security guard of Trinamool Congress (TMC) Birbhum district president Anubrata Mondal, who has been sent to 14-day judicial custody by the CBI Special Court after he was arrested on August 11 from his residence in Birbhum’s Bolpur. Mondal is a close associate of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Recently the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided and arrested Mondal’s daughter, Sukanya Mondal.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on September 21, 2020, arrested a former Border Security Force (BSF) Commandant, in connection with an illegal cattle smuggling case across the Indo-Bangladesh border.

Anubrata Mondal’s name came under the CBI scanner during the investigation of the case, the agency had said.

The main office of the JHM Group in West Bengal’s Bentinck street, which belonged to the nephews of Enamul Haque namely Humayun Kabir, Jahangir Alam, and Mehedi Hasan, was also raided in connection with the cattle smuggling case, the Crime Investigation Department (CID) informed.

Enamul Haque was arrested by the ED on February 18 and is currently in judicial custody.

The total attachment in this case has reached Rs 11.67 crore. Proceeds of crime to the tune of Rs 418 crore till now were identified by the ED.

Equitas bank gross advances goes upto 20 per cent to Rs 22,802 crore at September quarter

Equitas Small Finance Bank on Friday said its gross advances grew by 20 per cent to Rs 22,802 crore at end of September 2022 quarter.

The Bank’s gross advances in the year-ago period of September 2021 stood at Rs 18,978 crore.

During the second quarter ended September 2022-23, the Bank’s disbursements were up by 22 per cent at Rs 3,845 crore, as against Rs 3,145 crore in year-ago period. Total deposits rose by 20 per cent to Rs 21,726 crore, from Rs 18,094 crore at end Q2FY22, Equitas Small Finance Bank said in a release.

Of this, retail term deposits were at Rs 7,665 crore, up by 13 per cent from Rs 6,767 crore in the year-ago quarter. The current account savings account (CASA) stood at Rs 10,456 crore at end of Q2FY23, as against Rs 8,200 crore in the year-ago period.

CASA ratio was at 48.13 per cent.

Among others, the Bank’s cost of funds came down to 6.25 per cent, as against 6.81 per cent. The Bank said the figures related to September 2022 are provisional unaudited numbers, subject to approval by the audit committee and board of directors. The Equitas Small Finance Bank stock was trading at Rs 51 apiece on BSE, up by 1.90 per cent.

Gold prices have increased by Rs 29 to Rs 52,001 per 10 gram in future trade

Gold prices on Friday increased by Rs 29 to Rs 52,001 per 10 grams in future trade as speculators created fresh positions on a firm spot demand.

On the Multi Commodity Exchange, gold contracts for December delivery traded higher by Rs 29 or 0.06 per cent at Rs 52,001 per 10 grams in a business turnover of 19,054 lots.

Fresh positions built up by participants led to the rise in gold prices, analysts said. Globally, gold was trading 0.20 per cent lower at USD 1,717.40 per ounce in New York.

Delhi High Court asks NIA to respond to the plea on the FIR against alleged PFI members

Delhi High Court on Friday sought the NIA’s response on a plea seeking a copy of the FIR registered against alleged members of the banned Popular Front of India (PFI) in a case lodged under UAPA.

Justice Anoop Kumar Mendiratta issued the notice to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on a petition filed by one Mohd Yusuff, who was arrested from his residence in Chennai on September 22 in the case lodged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.

The high court has listed the matter for further hearing on October 10.

Government asks chief Justice of India Lalit to name his successor

The government has written to Chief Justice of India Uday Umesh Lalit to name his successor, sources said on Friday.

The letter was sent this morning, they said. As part of the procedure, the law minister writes to the CJI to name his or her successor.

Justice Lalit retires as the CJI on November 8.

Justice D Y Chandrachud is the senior-most judge after the CJI. As per practice, the CJI names the senior-most judge as his or her successor.

Going by the established practice and convention, Justice Chandrachud would be the 50th CJI

NCB has seized 50 kg drug worth Rs 120 crore from Mumbai and arrests six people

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized 50 kg mephedrone drug worth more than Rs 120 crore from Mumbai and Gujarat and arrested six persons, including a former Air India pilot, a senior official said on Friday.

The action was taken based on specific information received by the Naval Intelligence unit at Jamnagar in Gujarat, said Sanjay Singh, Deputy Director General of the NCB in a press briefing here. “Following the tip-off, the officials from the NCB headquarters in Delhi and its Mumbai zonal unit conducted a raid at Jamnagar on October 3 and seized 10 kg mephedrone,” he said.

The NCB team had arrested one person from Jamnagar and three more were held from Mumbai in this connection, Singh added.

“On Thursday, the NCB team raided a godown located on S B Road in Fort area of south Mumbai and seized 50 mephedrone,” he said.

After that, the anti-drug agency arrested two persons, including the kingpin of the cartel, he said, adding that one of the accused, Sohail Gafar Mahida, is a former Air India pilot.

Mephedrone, also known as ‘meow meow’ or MD, is a synthetic stimulant and psychotropic substance banned under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Enforcement Directorate carries its search operations in 35 locations in the Delhi Excise policy case

The ED on Friday launched fresh raids in connection with its money laundering investigation into alleged irregularities in the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy, official sources said.

The searches are being carried out at about 35 locations in Delhi, Punjab and some places in Hyderabad, they said. Some liquor distributors, companies and linked entities are being searched, the sources said.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has conducted more than 103 raids in this case till now and had also arrested Sameer Mahandru, a liquor businessman and managing director of liquor manufacturing company Indospirit last month in the case.

The money laundering case stems from a CBI FIR. The liquor scheme came under the scanner after the Delhi LG recommended a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities in the implementation of Delhi’s Excise Policy 2021-22. He had also suspended 11 excise officials in the matter.

Gyanvapi case : Varanasi court might pronounce its verdict today

The Varanasi court is likely to pronounce its verdict on Friday in connection with the plea filed by the Hindu side seeking carbon dating of the structure they claimed to be a ‘Shivling’ found inside the Gyanvapi Mosque.

The court had reserved the order in the Gyanvapi Mosque-Shringar Gauri case on September 29 after hearing both sides’ arguments.

The bench of Varanasi District Judge Ajay Krishna Vishwesh will deliver the order.

The Hindu side had claimed that a ‘Shivling’ was found in the premises near the ‘wazukhana’ during the videography survey of the mosque premises, which was ordered by the court.

However, the Muslim side said that the structure found was a ‘fountain’.

The Hindu side had then submitted an application on September 22 that sought a carbon dating of the object they claimed to be ‘Shivling’.

Carbon dating is a scientific process that ascertains the age of an archaeological object or archaeological finds. Besides this case, two more cases which could not be heard on Thursday due to the holiday will be heard today.

First, pertaining to the demand from the court to worship the Shivling found in Gyanvapi, a case filed on behalf of Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwarananda.

The second in connection with the case demanding to hand over the ‘Shivling’ site found in Gyanvapi to the Hindus.

Hearing on both applications is to be held in the court of Senior Civil Judge Kumudlata Tripathi today.

Earlier on September 29, the Hindu side demanded a scientific investigation of the ‘Shivling’ by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and the carbon dating of ‘Argha’ and the area around it.

Advocate Vishnu Jain representing the Hindu side in the Gyanvapi Masjid matter said, “The Hindu side demanded that the ASI conduct a scientific investigation of the ‘Shivling’. We have also demanded a carbon dating of Argha and the area around it”. “Muslim side too presented its side before the Court, they said that carbon dating shouldn’t be done.

They said that it’s a fountain & not a Shivling and it can’t be ascertained”, added Vishnu Jain.

The advocate further added that there is no break-up on the Hindu side, rather all the Hindus demand just one thing that the Shivalinga found should be scientifically investigated without causing any damage to it.

According to an exploratory study, those who consume more foods high in omega-3 fatty acids in midlife may have higher cognitive abilities and even better brain structure than those who consume less of these foods.

The research is published in Neurology, the medical journal of the American Academy of Neurology, on October 5, 2022, online.

Fish including salmon, sardines, lake trout, and albacore tuna contain omega-3 fatty acids. They can also be found in supplements or foodstuffs that have been fatty acid-fortified.

According to research author Claudia L. Satizabal, PhD, of the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, “improving our diet is one strategy to boost our brain health.”

“It may have a big influence on public health if people could increase their cognitive resilience and possibly prevent dementia with some easy dietary adjustments. Even better, our research hints that a small amount of omega-3 fatty acids may be sufficient to maintain brain health.

This is in keeping with the most recent American Heart Association dietary recommendations, which state that eating fish at least twice a week can help with cardiovascular health.

2,183 adults without dementia or strokes, with an average age of 46, participated in the cross-sectional study. Their omega-3 fatty acid concentrations were evaluated. They took assessments of their capacity for thought. Their brain volumes were measured via scans.

The average percentage of omega-3 fatty acids in the low group participants was 3.4%, while it was 5.2% for the high group participants. 8% or more is deemed ideal. Levels of 4% to 8% are regarded as moderate. Low levels are those that fall below 4%.

The cross-sectional study included 2,183 persons without dementia or strokes, with an average age of 46. Their levels of omega-3 fatty acids were measured. They underwent evaluations of their thinking abilities. Scans were used to calculate the size of their brains.

Participants in the low group had an average omega-3 fatty acid content of 3.4%, while those in the high group had an average of 5.2%. 8% or higher is considered excellent. Moderate levels are defined as 4% to 8%. Lower than 4% levels are considered low.

The majority of the sample, according to Satizabal, was non-Hispanic white adults, which may limit the applicability of the findings to other groups even if the study included a small percentage of persons of all races and ethnicities.
