BMC has planned to resurface 200 km of roads, worth Rs 500 crore, across the city, of which tenders for Rs 200 crore were floated on Friday.
These works will be done in the first phase in the next three months wherein the top layer of roads only would be resurfaced.
While the estimated cost of the entire project is Rs 1,705 crore, of which an amount of Rs 500 crore has been allocated for resurfacing of roads.
Officials said that of the total 2,050 km of roads in the city, already 1,000 km have been concretised and a majority of others are in the process of getting concretised.
An old bridge on National Highway 4 (Pune Bangalore highway) was demolished on Sunday night through a controlled impulsion, the demolition of bridge (famously known as Chandani Chowk Bridge) was part of ring road project at Chandani Chowk to ease out traffic issues on NH4.
The process to demolish the bridge started from September 13. It was planned to carry out the blast within one-week time after starting pre-demolition work but due to the weather conditions, date for demolition was shifted to October 2.
According to the District Collector of Pune, the Edifice Engineering private company that was tasked to carry out the demolition work successfully demolished it through blasting.
Dr Rajesh Deshmukh told to agencies,” Edifice engineer has confirmed that blast was carried out successfully on Chandani Chowk Bridge and removal of debris in the highway started on time”.
The officials of the company also called it successful demolition and thing went well as planned. The Partner of Edifice Engineering, Utkarsh Mehta said, “demolition work of the bridge was divided in two parts one was to demolish the bridge through the controlled blast and to carry out the impulsion, 600 kgs of the explosive used after drilling 1300 holes in different part of the bridge and its pillars.”.
“We were tasked to demolish the bridge and clear the road within the time bracket of 8 hours so immediately after the blast several earth moving machines like JCBs forknails vibrator were put in place to clear debris from the highway, and we have successfully carried out the demolition work”.
As per officials, Pune district administration have made out a detailed plan to demolish the bridge for which several arrangements like alternative vehicular movement of the highway and stopping of unnecessary vehicle movement etc.
This demolition was carried out by the National Highway Authority of India and the Pune district administration with the help of a team from the Noida-based Edifice Engineering consultancy company that recently demolished the Supertech Twin Towers.

The Maharashtra government led by Eknath Shinde on Saturday issued a government resolution (GR) making it mandatory for all government employees to say ‘Vande Mataram’ instead of ‘Hello’ while receiving telephone or mobile phone calls, saying that the word ‘hello’ is an imitation of Western culture.
The employees working in the government or in government-funded institutions would use ‘Vande Mataram’ instead of ‘hello’ while receiving telephone or mobile phone calls from citizens or government officials, as per the government order.
The GR issued by the General Administration Department said that officials should also create awareness among the people who meet them to do the same.
“The word ‘hello’ is an imitation of Western culture and just a “greeting without any specific meaning and does not evoke any affection,” GR said.
Hitting back at the government over the decision, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) MLA Waris Pathan said that the Shinde government is creating new drama just to distract the public from the real issues.
“What will you do, if we do not say Vande Mataram? Will people get jobs by uttering Vande Mataram? Will farmers’ loans be forgiven? Inflation will come down?” Waris Pathan’s questioned the government.
The Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve under the jurisdiction of Eastern Assam Wildlife Division were reopened on Sunday for the 2022-23 season tourists.
In a general notice issued by Ramesh Kumar Gogoi, Divisional Forest Officer of Eastern Assam Wildlife Division in Bokakhat stated that currently the park is partially opened only for Jeep Safari in two ranges– Kaziranga Range, Kohora and Western Range in Bagori due to the conditions of the roads because of inclement weather.
“At present, tourists are allowed to travel up to Bimoli Tiniali via Donga tower under Western Range, Bagori and from Mihimukh via Daflang tower to Vaichamari Junction under Kaziranga Range, Kohora till further notification/orders,” the DFO said in the notice.
On September 22, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma along with Sadhguru Vasudev opened the Kaziranga National Park for tourists for this season.
Chief Minister Sarma, on the day, also unveiled three rhino statues at Mihimukh in Kaziranga along with Vasudev. These rhino statues have been created using the ashes collected from burning rhino horns.
It may be noted that on September 22, last year, the Assam government made history when a stockpile of 2,479 rhino horns were consigned to flames to send across a strong message to the poachers and illegal horn traders that rhino horns have no medicinal value.
The rhino statues thus created are an attempt to immortalize the efforts and dedication of those who selflessly protect Assam’s pride, the great one-horned rhinoceros.

127 killed in mass riots during football match in Indonesia 12
At least 127 people died after riots broke out in a football match in Indonesia on Saturday night. Children and police officers are among the dead. The soccer match took place inside the Kanjuruhan Stadium in Malang, a landlocked city in the Indonesian province of East Java.
The defeat of Arema Football club by their arch-rivals Persebaya on their home ground prompted a large number of their supporters to storm the pitch following which mass riots broke out, killing more than 100 football fans and two police officers on the scene, local agencies reported.
Numerous footage that circulated on social media showed fans climbing over fences as they tried to escape from the smoke clouds after tear gas was released at the incident site in order to disperse the masses. Notably, after the chaos ended on the soccer ground, the stampede continued on the streets, local agency reported.
